Hey guys. I am putting a CD player in my 1994 GMC 3500 Diesel Dually. Do they make a plastic insert for where the OEM radio is? I know the CD player will go where the tape deck is but do they make some sort of insert so I can take out the OEM radio? Thanks

yes, Best Buy set me up with one that looks like it could hold CD's. The remote for my radio fits in it just right. If I am not explaining this right, it is a cubby hole...

HDBeauty,
i havent seen one that fits in the oem spot. That is one reason when i had my 88' i didnt put a stereo in it. Im not saying that one isnt made i just havent seen it and ive been in stereo for years now.

you cant put a new unit in the oem spot because of the side and depth, but you can get a little cubby hole insert so that you can take out the oem unit and just have storage there. the only place you can mount an aftermarket unit though is where the tape player is/was. if you don't have a new cd player to install yet, i would recommend ordering from crutchfield since they will give you all the wiring adapters, the adapter to mount the cd player in the tape player location and the cubby hole for the oem radio all free.

The pocket is made by Metra:

Crutchfield will supply you with the adapter that fits in the center where your tape deck is (needed to install aftermarket stereos) for free, but I'm pretty sure they charge you extra for the cubby hole shown above.

Any reputable car audio shop should have those on hand for about $10. As far as everything else, the wiring harness can be bought from same shop or even wal-mart. It is extremely easy on these trucks. I can walk you through it if you want. PM me with your number and a time to call and I can tell you everything you need to know.

metra makes it it is an open pocket that you use, as for the radio swap in that location to small, it goes where the tape player is with a metra kit as well, you can though add a 4" monitor in place of the factory head unit as well.

That spot also makes a good location for the gauges you want if you did not want to go on the pillar.
