hey guys. i have a very nice 1991 gmc 1500 i bought the truck with a 350. i knew everyone who has owned it. this was the 3rd engin it had. i blew this one up. i just got a hell of a deal. or so im thinking on a 6.5L GM. $900 for the motor and wireing harness and all that stuff. it does not have a turbo. i want to know if this motor will still have enough power when hooked up to a 5 speed manual tranny to get out in the mud and be able to spin the tires with out dogging out? if not what can i do for power chip stuff for it?

what 5 speed trans is in the truck now,
what year motor and more important what injector pump is on the engine db2/db4 if db2 no chip is required as no electronics on the engine.
if it is a stock 1500 you will need to upgrade the front suspension (springs) for the extreme weight increase of the diesel engine.
you will need to install a 2nd battery.
as for spinning the tires remember a diesel and particurally the 6.5 is a low rpm engine it is a torquer generaly do not exceede 3500 rpm and definatly do not exceed 4000 rpm or you will have a whole lot of parts on the ground.

im not sure what the tranny is it a is a 5 speed that was hoked up to a 350. it has heavy duty clutch system. the motor is a 1995. its out of a cargo van. and the springs are all changed to 3/4 ton.

ok on springs
but check the injection pump there will be a label on it with the number.
as for a turbo they can be had including exhaust manifolds and the associated parts.
you need to find out what trans is in the truck as most gasser trannys will not survive a diesiels torque.
nv4500/nv4600 are generally diesel

Really need to know if the tranny is an NV3500 or 4500 to determine how well it will hold up to the 6.5. Is the truck a C or K 1500? Even if the suspension wasn't upgraded, there'd be no need to. The 6.5 is a high speed Diesel, don't lug it.

the truck is a gmc sierra. regular cab and short bed stepside. im not sure if it was a c or k. and the tranny will hold up to the power the mechanis i bought the truck off said.

Is the 95 van an electric or mechanical injection pump? Does it have electronics on it or just a throttle cable?

If it just has a throttle cable you will not necessarily need a computer at all.
