You'll notice a pitch change as you slide it out. Mine changes pitch every 3/4 to 1" it's moved out.

Is there some rule of thumb that should be used to determine the maximum distance the tip should extend past the body of the truck?

i have been using the new tip for several months now and like it alot. no color change with heat and very easy to clean. I have received lots of comments on the tip alone.
