Can anyone clear up my confusion as to what tire pressure's to run on these tires when driving normal with no load- vs- loaded with 5th wheel thats weights in at 9500 lbs in tow ? I just had these Michelin 265/75/R16's Load Range E's installed today and the tire dealer set the tire pressure at 60 psi all around. I checked the max load on the tire and it indicated 80 psi. The inside door jam indicates 55 psi front and 80 psi rear, I understand that these are new tires and not the stock tires that came with the vehicle but what is the correct pressures ? Obviously the vehicle's stability is a factor in this calculation of offset tire pressures....? Anyone running these tires with any advise would be appreciated.

Run the same ones in the summer

60R/60F for best wear, mileage out of tire.
Bump to 75 PSIR 70 PSIF when towing.

I vary my psi based on load. I typically run 60/50 front/rear for general running around, but if you carry load or tow, go to 70+. I seldom run less than 60 front as that is where the weight is as the front caries the engine etc...

Just bought a set. My Tire Dealer said to run 55 front, 60 rear.

If I towed or hauled anything bring the rear up to 80.
Hey, He sales tire all day long.
Just my 2 cents

I get the best mileage @ 70 to 75 front and rear. seems more stable also.

Ditto what JK said. JJ :)

Your load rating is related directly to PSI, lower the pressure, you lower the load rating. Pump em up for towing.

I have the same tires and run them in the summer and mirror Kennedy.

Running empty, 60 psi front and 55 psi rear

Towing 65 psi front and 80 psi rear.

I run 55 in all of them. This is what Discount Tire recommends... I dont tow either. My mileage stinks thou. May bump up pressure's & see if gets better.

I agree on the mileage drop after the switch to these tires. I was usually in the 17 to 17.5 mpg range after the tire switch I still haven't gotten better than 16.5 and that is adding 4% for the larger tires.

You can never be wrong with the door pressure. Pressure is the same regardless of size as long as it is the same ply rating (load range). PSI is pounds per square inch. It is the pressure exerted against the surface of the tire. It requires the same PSI for stability regardless of the tire size change. Notice the tire markings are for MAX load psi. If the truck is not loaded to MAX load then keep pressures lower. I can assure you if you run max press in the rear tires especially without a heavy load the center of the tires will wear down very fast.

Use the manufacturers press on the door.

This is the tire I put on my truck when the factory tires wore out. I contacted Michelin and their reply is pasted below:

The maximum load that can be supported by the LT265/75R16 LRE at the maximum inflation pressure of 80 PSI, is 3415 lbs. Following is the load that tire will support at the lesser air pressures specified below:

50 PSI 2470
55 PSI 2625
60 PSI 2790
65 PSI 3000
70 PSI 3105
75 PSI 3260

I had to reformat the pressue versus load to look right, but otherwise the response from Michelin.

I run these tires on my truck but at pressures closer to 40psi when I am not towing anything. They seem to be wearing well. The only question I have is those of you that have corrected your speedometer what height did you enter in. The michelin website has them listed as 652 revolutions per mile which would be 30.93 inches tall. Just curious what the rest of you have entered in.

I wore out the first set that came with the truck in less than 40K miles. I'm running a Firestone tire now and I am running 50 psi all the way around (no load.) This was just a WAG based on info gathered from here and there. After looking at that PSI chart from Michelin it would seem I got lucky and am in the ball park. Running these new 285's @ 50 psi (no load) has not affected my milage. For damn sure the truck rides smoother. I'm sure the higher pressures I ran on the first set contributed to their short life span.
good luck.

4Day4Me; I had a set on my truck for the first 5,000KLMs. I'm not sure what they were set at for pressure, but the ride was HORRIBLE.
Took the load Es off, and put load Cs on.

I'm due for a new set, soon. Will look into load Ds, for next set.
