and a few minutes later....BANG!!! no more motor :(
now i need to set down and plan out another motor, i sure dont want to get rid of my ride, we have to many memories.. haha
Green Machine 08-18-2009, 11:02 PM Damn that sucks...
Glad you are rebuilding it though :)
IamDave0887 08-18-2009, 11:09 PM unfortunate that it died on you. it's is a good thing that your going to rebuild it.
The white smoke could either be a headgasket/cracked head/cracked block. Could be why it locked up on you as well(hydrolocked). pull the GPs out and see if she spins over. just make sure you can prevent fuel from getting to the engine, disconnecting the PMD works. See if any coolant sprays from the GP holes.
The popping could be a busted rocker arm retainer which means the rocker could've walked off the lifter/valve and you'd have a dead cylinder. That could be the popping sound your getting.
I"d say pull the GPs(to do the coolant check mentioned above) and then if that all checks out then maybe a compression test before pulling the rocker covers to see if you've got any bent pushrods(etc) or busted rocker retainers. It'd be a good place to start.
mamzerook 08-18-2009, 11:09 PM I feel your pain man. That is a sweet lookin' ride, glad you are gonna keep it.
DieselPro 08-18-2009, 11:38 PM Glad to see your still visiting here. I might need some parts. Good luck on your build.
ryridesmotox 08-19-2009, 12:51 AM Do I hear a Duramax swap coming along???
chevyinlinesix 08-19-2009, 01:35 AM You do have a very nice looking suburban :) Sorry to hear about the loss, I am glad you are going to rebuild the engine. :)

chevyduramax 08-20-2009, 01:11 PM Do I hear a Duramax swap coming along???
Oh now your talken my language. :D
pgguru 08-20-2009, 02:34 PM When you drive a diesel Suburban you don't have any upgrade Options.
chevyduramax 08-20-2009, 04:30 PM When you drive a diesel Suburban you don't have any upgrade Options.
Sure you do its called a big block chevy but I know it doesnt get as good of mileage.
mrsemi05 08-20-2009, 04:48 PM man i hear your pain. my 94 my favorite truck blew a head gasket (not as bad as yours but still pretty bad since i had no money to fix it) but shes on her way to being back on the road rebuilt injectors and new heads she will be almost like new
mtjasper 08-20-2009, 05:02 PM that sucks to hear, well the rebuild will give you something to do if you wanna look at the positive side
MrTailLight 08-21-2009, 10:09 PM that sucks to hear, well the rebuild will give you something to do if you wanna look at the positive side
Well, as if i needed something else to do! LOL
i thought about going to a dealer auction with a neighboring car lot and getting a $1500 running truck and use what i need, and sell the rest.... i aint made up my mind yet, its all in the works...???
ryridesmotox 08-21-2009, 10:15 PM Sure you do its called a big block chevy but I know it doesnt get as good of mileage.
I'd rather try shoe-horning in a 6.6 d-max. 600+ lbs of torque with a built TH400... I like the allisons but I doubt I could make that fit. The exhaust would be a huge pain buit it would be so sweet. If guys are putting in a 5.9 cummins a Duramax could fit tight?
DieselPro 08-21-2009, 10:48 PM Wish you the best with the build. Hope your MRtaillight business is going strong.
MrTailLight 08-22-2009, 04:09 PM now i could use the advice of "Tim Allen".....UGGG More Power...!! haha
85-m1028 08-22-2009, 10:16 PM I had the key way shear off on my injection pump drive flange, "caused by vibration from a worn timing chain" this allowed the timing to slowly slip out until it just stopped running.
The sound on the video is pretty bad but it kind of reminded me of what happened to mine..
MrTailLight 08-29-2009, 01:36 PM Ok, i just picked this chassis up on a GREAT deal, i have not decided yet, but i thought of throwing the body of my suburban on it....i know im going away from the so muched loved diesel, but for the cost of the project, i just might do it.
what ya'all think....throw me some ideas.... im really curious as to the results, yet im still wondering if i should go cummins, or duramax....or just the same ole 6.5.....????
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=62554874
chevyinlinesix 08-29-2009, 01:51 PM That would be one hell of a sweet project, BUT.... since it doesn't appear to have an ECM, BUT DOES have an Allison, swapping in a Duramax shouldn't be very much more work.
Personally, I'd swap a Duramax into that chassis, and put your suburban's body onto that chassis. Sell the 8100 Big Block (I don't know how much they go for) and use the money towards the purchase of a Duramax engine and computer.
MrTailLight 08-29-2009, 02:16 PM Yes, i have 100% of the wiring and the ECM....i have everything to make this motor and trans work....and i am with you on this, i would like to see the duramax in this chassis, with the suburban body.... :)
JMJNet 08-30-2009, 02:11 PM Not promoting the other forum, but somebody has just finished putting dmax into a burb. I am sure you know what the other forum.
MrTailLight 09-01-2009, 11:01 AM i really dont think i want to go with the 8100 motor, i dont want to leave the diesel life.... i like it too much..haha
the more im looking this, i am thinking of the cummins 12V.... a customer came in yesterday with this set up in his 96 Chevy truck.....dam did that look good!
