My brake lights are turning on and off intermittently. I recently wired my gauges using the dimmer wire for the lighting, a fuse for a hot and grounded it under the dash on a bolt. Since everyonce and a while my brake lights will flash irregularly intermittently. Meaning my brake lights do not flash all the time but when they are flashing they do not flash steadily they just turn on for a while, then turn off and turn back on with no pattern.
This seems to somehow be tied to my brake controller I have mounted under the dash. When the brake lights are turning on and off my brake controller is flashing and reporting and open circuit. When the brake controller harness is unplugged the brake lights start flashing. I did remove the brake controller for a short time while wiring the lighting for my gauges.
Has anybody have any similiar problems? Any idea on where to start looking for the problem? Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Brian

I looked at all of the wiring I ran for my gauges and rewired most of it but everything looked good. I also pulled my brake contoller apart and all of the connections were good. I really have no idea what to check for next. I thought for sure there was going to be a bad connection in the brake controller some where. It seems to be a problem with th e brake controller somehow because as soon as I unplug it the brakes stop flashing. Has anybody heard of this happening before? I have no idea what to check next. I guess I will just try to look at the wiring some more. If anybody has any ideas bring them.
Thanks
Brian
Edit: It is also throwing a P0571 and U1024 code

I thought I had this fixed but then it came back this weekend. I am sure it doesn't have anything to do with the wires I ran for the guages, and it deffinetly is connected with my trailer brake controller. I deleted the codes it was threw and now the codes don't come up when the lights are flashing.
I think somehow my truck is telling my brake controller to apply the brakes to the trailer and this lights up the brake lights. Somebody has to have some ideas on what is going on.

I am still having problems with this and can't figure it out. I have thought of two possibilities. I read that a bad directional or break bulb might cause problems. I have also read of problems with the switch under the break pedal. Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions. Thanks.

My guess is it's the brake controller. The manual overide lever on the brake control can go bad simulating someone squeezing the lever and turning on the brake lights, randomly.
What brand and model brake control do you have? Odyssey?

My controller is a Hayes Engage. After reading the above posted thread when the manual override goes bad it will engage whenever it wants to, completely random and with pattern to how it engages? Sounds like my brake controller is the problem. Thanks for the help.
