This trans is about 1 yr and less than 20k old. Not something I like to see when I open things up:

Pics do it no justice so you will have to trust me that there is sufficient wear to hook ridges with a fingernail with ease...

Never seen the inside of a mag tech, whats it rubbing on??? Do all the mag techs have this problem you think? Thanks for the heads up.

looks like the filter is rubbing on the fins of the pan itself.......?

There is a cast in support fin to keep the filter from falling out. It is a raised bar of aluminum. If you look closely into the pan you'll see where it is being polished by the filter.

Just wondering if you had any more conclusive info or thoughts on this? I was getting ready to buy the Mag Hytec transmission pan for my Allison but I'm not going to if the filter is grinding down the metal in the pan. Also, the folks at Mag Hytec tell me I can expect a 40 degree drop in operating temperature using their pan. I was interested to find out if this was your experience? Thanks!

I'm not saying it's right,but
I have a heard time believing its grinding. That tin is very thin and wouldn't take much grinding that's for sure.Mine was one in similar time.I noticed what appeared to be is dents, harmless.I might have to go dumpster diving or cut open a spare shallow to see. ;)

From what I have seen a little "self" help grinding on the outboard ribs would solve the problem as there isn't any other contact.

Also to take into consideration is the install. Was it pushed up far enough? What if the sump filter is turned some will it affect the depth too?

I just think its looked at as more than a worry than it is.Just my O

All pans should be checked for clearance while installing. To do this, you push the pan against the case ( as if installing ) and see if there is interference ( gap between case and pan ). If you have to push hard to get pan to mount flush, then it is too tight and you must grind a little off the support rib. I check this on every pan install. I agree with Mac, the rub hole won't hurt a thing.
