I have done a search on "spacers" but can't seem to find the answer to my question. I am running stock rims with 235/85/16E tires that just barely touch under full load (3 horse living quarters trailer). I just need a "little" spacer not Fred's 2" spacer. Any ideas where to find a smaller/thinner spacer? One of my buddies just put thick washers between the wheels, but I am not sure that is a good idea. Thanks in advance.

Call Fred, he has all the answers and will be glad to help you. I run the same tire size as you and use the 2 in spacer. I like the way it looks. From the back of the truck it sort of looks like a set of school bus tires with a 2 inch space in between. On my model year the tires were tight together as soon as it was lowered to the ground after the tire install. Some say that the tire buldge width is different from one manufacture to the next even if the tires are the same size.
What year is your truck?

Truck is a 05 LLY.

Ok so it's the same wheel as mine. When I put the 2 inch ones on it pushes the tire out about an inch beyond the wheel well but the tread is still inside it.

I'm in the same boat, capt...had a set of 235s given to me, so I put them on, and they're just *barely* clearing @ 70 without a load...they look friggin' killer, though, but I'm not digging the whole "tire outside of the wheel well" idea with spacers...but...?

You can get some 1/4" , 5/16" , 3/8" or 1/2" spacers off e-bay for $20-30 per set.
You can't go any wider then that because you will run out of threads on your wheels studs.
If you want wider then that Fred can make 1 1/2" and up spacers that run $320.00 per set.

If installing spacers like Fred's, if the thickness is less than the lingth of the exposed wheel studs, the studs will have to be cut shorter.
The studs on my 2002 2500HD stick out about 1-7/8" from the hub. The outer approximately 3/8" of stud is not threaded, so cutting this off will have no affect on stud/nut engagement.
The stud on hub can not through the spacer, or it will hit the wheel.
Measure your studs.

don't forget to include the width of the inner rim when measureing stud length....

i have read that if you use a set aluminum aftermarket wheels such as Alcoa they give enough clearence to run 235's without spacers. Has anyone tried this?

I have alcoas with the stock 215's and I have maybe an inch gap between the tires. I would be curious if anyone is running 235 or 245's with their Alcoas and if they have spacers or not.

Thanks to all for your ideas and input. I went with 5/16" spacers off of ebay and hooked up the living quarters horse trailer and off to the roping. All went well. Then I went to have the tires rotated at Discount Tire and they would not rotate them because of the spacers. So I guess it's back to stock 215s for me! This is the first time I have asked for help on this site and you guys were fantastic. Thanks again.

Why change back to stock?
Do you own rotates.
Discount has all kinds of crazzy rules now.

Alcoas are the exact same specs as the factory wheels.
I know this because I got them and checked spacing before and after Alcoas.

I understand, most any other shop will help you out.
Discount has gotten so big that they can get away with all there petty rules.
there are other shops that can help you out.

As for the grandkids helping you out, just ask them. I would love to be able to help my grandpa out if he was still around.
