: How many miles on your rig?
knkreb 05-15-2005, 04:12 PM Here's another one of those polls to see where everyone is at. I raised this question last year on another site. I was wondering how everyone was fairing on this forum.
How many ENGINE miles do you have on your rig?
('cause 575,000 miles doesn't count if your on your 4th engine:p: )
CR, you can vote more than once on this one!
Carey Weber 05-15-2005, 05:26 PM I have +191K US miles on my engine. The only work I've done to to the engine proper is an Injection Pump @ about 93K miles.
I still have good oil pressure +50 psi after its warm. That I think is due my by pass oil filter which I've had since about 60K miles
I'm going to do my injectors for the first time soon, and I'd like to do the balancer, pulley and a gear drive too.
I'm a bit worried about my water pump, but its still tight and does not leak.
I'm still on my original 4L80E too.

CanadianRigger 05-15-2005, 06:55 PM I voted once for each truck. I think engine miles should count if doing heads/gaskets but if you go into pistons/rings/cam maybe that shouldn't count?
Texas Diesel Guy 05-15-2005, 08:21 PM Has anyone here gone to a heavier grade oil than 15w-40?
I'm considering trying either 20w-50 or 40w. Blow by is pretty normal, I want to see if it will affect the lifter problem I think I have.
CanadianRigger 05-15-2005, 08:31 PM I was using 15:50 full syn, back to 0:30 full syn now. Considering 0:40 syn later.
Texas Diesel Guy 05-15-2005, 08:57 PM 0w-30??? you sure thats what you want to run in the summer? I could maybe see going to 5 or 10w-30 in the winter?
CanadianRigger 05-15-2005, 09:25 PM Remember the oil thread, no oil is thin enough when cool at startup. Syn gives the best overall protection IIRC.

You'd do much better to use 0w-30 full synthetic. 40w (20w-40?)
Lubercation isn't improved with higher viscosities.
If I could have voted for the '96 and '93 They have 250,000 mi and 178,000 miles each.
I did vote for the '94 and it did have a total rebuild but not for any reason other than GM dropped a bolt down the #6 intake runner and the owner put in everthing, crank, heads, pistons, you name it but into the original block which has 320,000 miles.
steiner43511 05-15-2005, 11:31 PM im goin to try the new schaeffers #9000 full synthetic 5w40. its cheaper than rotella 5w40.
I voted for 150-200k, but maybe should have used earlier category as truck has just over 150k miles on it but got new warranty engine at 12,875. New injection pump at 120,000 but other than that just preventative stuff and runs just fine.
w_huisman 05-16-2005, 10:36 AM I just turned 200k on my burb. Uses about 2 qts between oil changes, but seems to run just fine.
Pulls my 3200lb boat around pretty well, and runs about 700-750 degree EGT's on level straight-aways (at 5.5-6.0 pounds of boost) while doing so.

94blazer6.5 05-18-2005, 09:39 PM 212,459 on my 94. same 4L80E trans no rebuild, 1st IP dealer done 30,000, 2nd IP i did 210,000, other than reg stuff brakes, atl, A/C comp. and don't forget about that piece of S**T vacumm system, etc... other that no trouble.
justin25taylor 05-20-2005, 08:46 AM 273,112 Happy miles. 1 IP at 218,00 4 a/c compressors. (It runs all year here) Original trans. Still makes 17-20 MPG I'm starting to belive there is something to this amzoil and dual bypass kit. Pulled 14,000# cattle trailer 150 miles yesterday. Best value I've ever had in a truck. :ro)
steiner43511 05-20-2005, 08:57 AM yeah that amsoil stuff is pretty nice, but pricey. ive been lookin at a jug of it all week. my roommate is collecting oils to do a viscosity index test. so far he has:
rotella t 10w30
rotella t 15w40
schaeffers 5w40
schaeffers 15w40
amsoil 15w40
delo 400 15w40
and hes thinkin about gettin some syn rotella
justin25taylor 05-20-2005, 09:10 AM Amzoil is expensive but not if you look at it long term.
Oil sample every 5,000 miles 12.00 not 35.00 for a regular oil change.
Usually lasts between 20k and 40 k.
oil change costs about 75.00 with wix filters.
Engine has lasted 270k so far and is treated like a piece of trash.
Amzoil recomends 5w30 HD diesel oil for our engines.
(I dont work for amzoil)
dkubek 05-20-2005, 04:56 PM 205,477mi on the ticker so far. I love my truck--all paid off and no repairs just mods.:ro)
