: Best low cost exhaust setup for a 6.5?
fantastixvoyage 08-12-2009, 04:26 PM Well I'm planning to install my rebuilt turbo here shortly and thinking now would be the time to also do the exhaust.
I found a 3" downpipe for $125 and a full system for about $450.
What is the popular low cost solution? Just go with the $450 system or do the downpipe and let a shop fab an exhaust or ??????
Is the duramax swap easy or a total pain? The threads I've read werent too descriptive on how it would be for an average joe...
My truck is detailed below if the model, 4x4, etc matters.
96GMC6.5L 08-12-2009, 05:20 PM Warpspeed has a nice turbo back kit for fairly cheap (would include the downpipe). If you can find a used duramax exhaust for really cheap, you could fab it up to your stock downpipe or buy a new 3" mandrel downpipe. I don't think the duramax swap is very hard, it should only take some minor hanger modifications I would imagine. I personally have 3" straight pipe exiting in front of the rear wheel, I liked it since it was different and you don't see to many like that. I think I have pics in my garage. My setup probably cost me about 100-150 bucks, but I still have to stocker downpipe.
stingthieves 08-12-2009, 11:19 PM If you don't THINK that the DuraBux swap is "very hard" --- well you have never tried
Its far far more than a few hanger modifications
Nothing fits our trucks easily beside the parts that are supposed to
a4stargen 08-12-2009, 11:28 PM How loud is a 4" straight exhaust? I have a 3" straight pipe on it now and it doesn't seem very loud at all. I see that most of the 4" kits out there come with a muffler, would a 4" be THAT much louder?
saturntech95 08-13-2009, 12:04 AM Has a rumble for shure, I would compare it to a V8 gasser with a 40 series flowmaster on it. Actually sounds like a big block gasser until you get on it a little and hear that turbo whine. My friend has a 6.0 ford with a 5" straight pipe on it and I cant even hear my truck over his.

Sorry, my bad.
JMJNet 08-13-2009, 09:00 AM Warpspeed system can be had for a lot less than the system price mention. it is the midpoint between your two prices. He usually sells through the bay.
There also a system called DiamondEye which has gaining its popularity.
There are not too many people who can mandrel bend 4" pipe, only 3 or 4 in the US. Chances are the local shop cannot do it.
Horse-Power 08-13-2009, 12:35 PM I made my whole exhaust system except crossover out of 2 duramax exhausts, now it wasnt a bolt in setup like you can buy but if you are good at fabricating it shouldnt be to hard, if you want some pics i might throw my truck on the lift and snap a few.
vwhitley 08-13-2009, 01:40 PM I installed a 4" pinnacle exhaust about 4 years ago. Warranty for as long as you own the veh. About a year ago a hanger broke from the tailpipe. I called them and I had the new pipe in a few days. It cost $300.00. pipes muffler brackets, clamps everything I needed. Nice mellow tone.
I bought a 4" Diamond eye including 3" down pipe off the bay for around $300. Perfect fit, unbelievable change in performance. Makes me wonder why I didn't make the change years ago.

I second that ! Ive had my diamond eye on for about a month and I love it.

ghostrider500 08-13-2009, 07:54 PM I went with the Diamond-Eye exhaust: 3" DP and 4" with exhaust on out the back. A little louder than stock, but alot more turbo whistle!

CNY6.5TD 08-13-2009, 08:25 PM Stacks are actually suprisingly in expensive if you do it all your self. Seriously..... probably not more than $350 in parts. Or theres always a hood stack, probably could be done for $75, maybe less.

I would love that but I think it is illegal in Mass. amongst other states.
