I am having problems with the transfer case in the 4WD of my Suburban. It is a 1996 2500 454CID automatic with the tow package differential gears with 120K on the odometer.

The transfer will go into low, but the 4WD light on the dash blinks – no 4WD in either high or low range. Replaced the ‘’shifter’’ in the front axle with a NAPA replacement, which did not fix the problem. I can hear it activate, but the light starts to blink and will not go ‘’solid’’ green indicating the 4WD is engaged.

I am stymied and wud appreciate any suggestions.

I also need a manual for this and other problems. Anyone willing to sell me their factory manuals for this period of GM production wud be appreciated.

Have you jacked up rear and verified no 4wd?. IIRC, there is a switch in front that tells controller front axle is engaged

Tnks for ur suggestion. There is no 4WD in either hi or low range. Rear wheel drive only.
