First off I'm not a transmission expert and don't claim to be one. I have two questions and would greatly appreciate if someone would shed some light:

1. Due to the nature of the Allison it's a clutch on/off transmission (no band, sprag, roller clutch etc.) is a hard shift the result of a bind-up or timing issue?

2. With it's gear ratio change from second (1.81) to third (1.41) is it really possible to feel a hard shift? I'd think that with such a close gear spread that it would be hard to feel a shift especially if you were really getting on it.

Thank you very much.

You are correct; a hard shift in the Ally is bind up and timing which is the same thing. You can feel a firm shift in the 2-3 when the converter clutch is on during the shift.
