: Chevy Vs: Ford
purochevy 08-10-2009, 09:54 PM Today I raced my boss. He owns a ford excursion I think it is a 2000 or 2001 not sure. He has an aftermarket intake, chip, and an exhaust. He first raced me not letting me catch up to him when he took off. So he calls me and say's is that all you got? I told him if we take off at the same time I'll beat you. Mind you my truck is a stock 2007 cc dually. So I beat him from a rolling stop, and again from a complete stop. On the complete stop he was power braking it. So my question is, do newer trucks run faster even though he has all those gadgets. Right before we raced he was telling me to replace the intake filter and remove the muffler. He said that's all I need to get some better hp and mileage is that so? Would the removal of the muffler void my warrant?
hondarider552 08-10-2009, 11:02 PM a dmax will easily beat a 7.3, its not the question of newer, its the technology, the 7.3 had something like 235hp and weights 1k more than your dually.
235hp 8200 lbs 7.3
360hp 7200lbs 6.6
dragoonranch 08-11-2009, 09:17 AM I don't know if the excursion is that much more in weight, but it is a heavy pig.

So I'm guessing your cleaning the toilets now? :D

You better leave the oem ACDelco air filter in there. K&N filters do not filter as good as the oem's, and the oem's flow better...

Well he says if I replace the filter I'll get more horspower and better mileage?

Not true.
purochevy 08-12-2009, 12:57 AM Not true.
So what's the most inexpensive way to gain more hp and mileage?

Well going back to my boss he says just to change the air filter but we will see. Thanks anyway.
hondarider552 08-12-2009, 01:16 AM leave it stock, K&N filters suck ass (no pun intended)
SPUDNIK 08-12-2009, 01:28 AM forget the intake not much gains there.... get an exhaust no muff, and scratch the cat.... maybe a minor tune and save for a tranny
ZebBeard 08-12-2009, 05:49 PM K&N's flow much more than the stock paper filter.
Much more dirt that is:D

How so? Just curious, this is the first time I've heard guys recommending leaving a stock PAPER filter in over a aftermarket oiled/re-useable filter.
stratman 08-13-2009, 12:39 AM Hey!
I gave my K&N to my son for his silverado 1500 gasser these diesels need all the air they can get.
I am getting the banks air box with superscoop and I hear that might give them the air the diesels need I hope anyway they are expensive:(
I did not see any improvement with it and I ran for about 10K.

K&N's dont have much filter media, thus flowing better. That, and people usually over oil them slap them on and complain about faulty MAF sensors.
f419sr1 08-13-2009, 07:50 PM I dont remember where on here but there is a air box mod that will help flow more air and its free. Maybe one of the mods will attach the link
redneckbuckeye 08-13-2009, 08:54 PM here is a way for your stock air box to flow more air.

SO, LIKE IT SAYS IN THE GUIDE. THAT IT CREATES MORE STRESS ON THE DRIVETRAIN COMPONENTS, AND COULD RESULT IN DREVETRAIN FAILURE. IS THAT LIKELY TO HAPPEN AND WILL I NEED TO INSTALL A TUNER OR EXAUST? OR CAN I JUST DO THAT MODIFICATION AND LEAVE IT ALONE? I'M NEW AT THIS AND I JUST DON'T WANT TO VOID THE WARRANTY. IF I REMOVE THE MUFFLER, WILL THAT VOID MY WARRANTY?
ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
stratman 08-13-2009, 11:35 PM Hey!
I removed my muffler and put in the banks six gun at 700mi. on new truck and the dealer here did not void warranty. But maybe you should ask first:cool:.
I told them it was because I tow heavy:rolleyes:. I love the banks and the dealer here said it was the only one they would not void the warranty because of the built in safety features of the banks.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Yea, I'm going to ask the dealer.
