Well, for those who followed this thread:

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=318757

You're aware my truck died and needed a new motor. Here's what happened when I got it back today.

First, they went with a reman long block. Total cost to me was $109. Total cost of the job - $6828.45. So glad I got the extended warranty.

But now I've got this new engine - and it's a bit strange. They told me they had some issues with the timing of the IP but they got it worked out. I noticed when I took it out in the lot, at slow speeds, the engine feels...well, for lack of a better term, different. Almost like it's in 4WD mode, but it's not. I'm not sure what to make of that. It could just be that it's a new engine. It could be that I'm imagining it, but I'd swear there was something amiss. For those who bought their truck new, is this normal? Does it smooth out after a bit?

Cool!!!

Drive it a little to see if everything is better. If not, bring it back to them.

What oil did they put in ? Is your turbo working fine ?
Did they finally succeed in timing right the IP ?

Ooo...good question. I never even asked about the oil - I was just so happy to get it back (it's been a month )! The turbo seems to be working fine, and it's running better today than it did yesterday, so I think the timing is probably ok and it's just the engine getting broken in. If it's a problem in a few days, though, I'll take it back in.

I'm going to take it on the highway this afternoon for a short trip, so we'll see how that goes.

............ the engine feels...well, for lack of a better term, different. Almost like it's in 4WD mode,...................
mine sat for over a year before i got it running. a week later the rear brakes started dragging. replaced the real wheel cyls and am about to change the gear oil to syn. then get it back on the road to see if there are any other probs, like carrier bearing, u-joints, etc......... will have to get at the front brakes if the locking up is still there.
i know yours only sat for a week but maybe something is dragging.

did you ever see the timing chain? did you get to look at the engine condition such as pistons, valves? i want to know if there was as much damage as they lead you to believe that the engine needed changing.
congrats on getting it back BTW.

No, I never saw the timing chain - it was all handled by the warranty company. Although if I'd been paying for it, I certainly would have wanted to see those items. On a brighter note, the new engine sounds nice. :)

Still having issues with IP timing, so it's going back in Thursday AM. Interestingly enough, I got a "Low Coolant" sensor light this morning. It took two quarts of water to fill it back up again. You can bet I'll be mentioning that as well tomorrow when it goes back.
