I just filled up at a local station that I have filled up many of times. I put 16 gal of diesel in and took off. I got on the interstate for 25 miles and then my engine light came on and I lost power. I pulled off the side of the road and called a tow truck. I had my truck towed to the dealership that I have all of my service done at.

I called the station to see if they've had any problems with their diesel lately and they said "not today but, the ambulance service vehicles stopped using our diesel because we switched to biodiesel." Apparently the ambulance service vehicles don't run on biodiesel.

So, here is my question....can my 2004.5 LLY run Biodiesel? I've got 8,000 miles on my fuel filter.

I'm running an edge juice with attitude and mbrp exhaust.

Thanks in advance for your help.

the manual states a 5% ratio of biodiesel...so you need to find out what grade bio they have

most stations run a B5 which is a 5% blend, some run B20 which is a 20% blend

I run my 05 LLY on B5

bio will clean your system out. It's possible it knocked some junk loose and just plugged your filter.

Hummm...? Got 6K+ miles on my current filter and have been running both reg petro and B50 bio diesel switching back and forth kinda testing to see milage diff`s... No issues so far...

Most likely jollyrogr is right it tends to clean the heck out of the system...

In the "Maintenance & Fluids" section there are discussions on biodiesel. It's great stuff!!! Best in diesel fuel lubrication, best in cleaning the entire fuel system, quiets the engine.

But if you haven't been running it on a regular basis, and especially if this is the first time, it's probably going to clog up the stock filter.

Even at 5% (B5) it provides big benefits. Our fuel systems aren't rated for high concentrations, but I would be comfortable using B20 on a regular basis, and higher on an occasional basis.

I don't have regular access to bio, and that's where something like a Nicktane setup with a big CAT filter comes in nice. It can handle the cleaning action.

I run anything from 0-100 Bio depending on where I am when I need fuel.

I typically try to run 10-30%. I havent had an issue, but I dont go long time between running bio and changing filters. When I first put it in the truck, I started with a new filter and changed it at 5000 miles.

I always carry a spare filter and a strap wrench, you never know what your next batch of fuel will have.

Well, the dealership just called me and it has nothing to do with the fuel. Apparently, the Module/Computer that controls the injectors is bad. So for $490, I'll get my truck back this afternoon.

Thanks for all of your replies.

It's hard to know who is aware of the chronic problems on these trucks. When most of us hear of injector problems on the LLY, we immediately think:
(1) rub-thru where the harness rubs on the FICM aluminum bracket (front passenger side of engine; sometimes described as the alternator bracket but I'm not going outside to check), and
(2) Connector problems, usually on #2 or #7 but possible on any (but this usually only affects 1 cylinder but puts it in limp mode).

Anything is possible, I'm just trying to point out the notorious problems.

Here is what they did:

DTCS P2146 & P0207 Electrical Problem with injector connector terminals. Installed 98017985 Harness (02525-CT)

Labor $212.50
Harness $254.48

AKA - you got F*#%&#*% screwed:rippedhan . Don't take this the wrong way but you just pissed away almost what $470. Search Ice pick fix and then you're really going to want to hammer yourself in the balls.

Read up on that because the supposed fix that the dealer did...WILL fail again. Next time though, you can save yourself a whole lot of money.

I read all of the "fixes" with the "ice pick" threads. From what I read, it work for some people and not for others. So, I have no desire to "hammer myself in the balls".

I don't have the physical ability to lift the hood and be climbing all of the motor. I'm a little person and only stand 4' 1" tall. I needed more of a permanent fix. The Tech who worked on my truck has worked on it before and he told me that he replaced the harness and the brackets so, I should be in good shape.

NO, I wasn't happy about paying that much money but, what do you do? I even called GM customer Care today and they couldn't even find the TSB.

Dan, actually the only 100% reliable solution IS the ice-pick fix. If you've read anything that indicated something to the contrary, then you were either reading it wrong or reading the wrong thing. The General's fix is definitely know to not work 100%... in fact, it's been known to fail in as little as a couple of weeks.

You may want to re-read the ice pick fix articles... and be heartened that it is typically only the #2 and #7 injectors.

Good luck! Maybe yours will stay fixed...

Right on Randy I icepicked my "lly" at 130,000 miles and now at 145,000 and no more limp modes no new wire harnesses I priced them and decided to take a chance really nothing to loose especially after reading how many other people have done it . I just went to the "DIY" Do It Yourself section and searched Ice pick fix and printed out the pics and them worked the majic.

I have a LMM and used to run Bio because the truck ran great, but the regen mode caused a problem with the bio so I stopped. You don't have the dpf/regen like I have, so I would run B5-B20 on a regular basis. Just my .02.
