: What happens when you forget to fold your mirrors...
Woodroe 08-06-2009, 11:34 PM I am lucky the whole piece didn't get torn off, but now I have to fix my driver side mirror. My question; can I replace the glass piece itself or does the whole driver side unit need to be replaced? I've attached a couple of photos so everyone can see the damage. It's minor, but irritating to look at. I also attached a couple of photos showing just how much I stick out and how close other cars get to me. Any advice will be appreciated...(but I don't want to hear "fold your mirrors in next time" it's been dually noted). And, truth is I don't know exactly how this happened I woke up to see this mess early this morning.
Dragon 08-06-2009, 11:59 PM Don't park on the street? j/k
That sucks, may have been some idiots on a joyride and got tired of hitting mailboxes
nickLB7 08-07-2009, 12:52 AM I'm pretty sure you can replace just the glass. I know you can get it through the dealer, or at least on mine I did.
mmangels22 08-07-2009, 01:16 AM Sorry man, that friggin sucks. I try my best to fold my mirrors before I go inside my house.
Rader2146 08-07-2009, 01:22 AM The accordion mirrors fold in??? :o: Never tried to fold them.
That sucks...I say it's time to upgrade to '06 mirrors.
mmangels22 08-07-2009, 01:24 AM Just make sure you pull them in all the way and you can fold them.
Jason Duramax 08-07-2009, 01:28 AM Perfect excuse for '06 up tow mirrors!!
Jasondt2001 08-07-2009, 01:42 AM I don't think that was a car - or the housing would have been busted or marred - I think some of the neighborhood ********s paid you a visit.
It's a shitty feeling, I know; don't let it be personal though, they probably don't even know you man.
I wish I could be of more help, I can only imagine how you feel... my truck was egged and all the kids around here (even teen aged kids) come over and borrow tools and things for their projects, so I know I havent pissed them off...
tileman2003 08-07-2009, 01:45 AM Yes you can just replace the glass, if you tilt it all the way up there is a tab on the bottom, and the unit slides up and out. There is a diy on here on how to do this...
demp223 08-08-2009, 05:47 PM Company called Burco makes the replacement mirror and any glass shop can order for you for $19.95.Just pry out glass from plastic ring and couple small dots of silicone on backside and pop in new glass.Takes less than 10 min.
Woodroe 08-08-2009, 08:04 PM Guys, thanks for all the comments. I appreciate it. I certainly won't forget to fold the mirrors anymore. I only found out the accordians folded because I walked into them by accident. Funny story. Also, I would've upgraded to '06 tow mirrors only if the entire housing was busted. I do like the '06 look but it's not in the budget right now. I'm gonna have to update my enemies list if some punks were out and about causing damage. Sucks!
Woodroe 08-08-2009, 08:17 PM And I found Burco glass website. Thanks. I will check out their Buro redi cuts. But is replacing the mirror as easy as popping it out of the ring it's in? I don't want to damage anything behind it. It has the emmbedded signal and the auto defrost. I tilted it all the way up but I couldn't slide it out. I am still looking for the thread where they discuss replacing the or. Found plenty on the topic but none that related to me. I'll keep looking.
tileman2003 08-09-2009, 05:15 AM I believe the diy was for fixing the mirrors from rattling, it shows how to remove the whole unit. You can also un bolt from the bottom...

you do not need to pop off the whole plastic ring. you need to get a sharp chisel and gloves and safety glasses and clean the broken glass off the plastic retainer. The new Burco mirror will come with about 6 round dots of double face tape. You cover the mirror with the tape and stick it back on the plastic retainer. Takes about 5 min.
You might have to have a glass shop order the mirror for you though, I don't think Burco ships to individual customers.
Woodroe 08-09-2009, 04:00 PM tileman, kirkwood thank you both. This helps.
