How do you know which axle you have? I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 3500 and I will be changing the differential fluid in the front and rear. As i understand it if I have the QS4 axle, Friction modifier is not to be added. I have the locking rear axle, but not sure if I need the friction modifier. Also not sure if the front axle needs it or not either.

I don't know what a QS4 is but, the Rear should be a AAM 11.50 and the Front is a AAM 9.25....

Most likely, you don't have a traction aid in front so no additive there. Your stealer should be able to tell you if your rear has open, limited, or locked diff from your VIN. One way to see if you have anything is just mash it from a stand still and burn the tires for about 10-20 feet. If only one black line, open carrier. If two black lines of equal length; limited or locked. Hope this helps.
