I am ordering an aftermarket stereo and they want to sell me the more expensive wire harness with the chime module. If I don't get it will it only disable the door chime or will it disable all of the warning chimes like low fuel and such?

All chimes come through the OEM radio, so, YES, with out the module, all chimes will be lost.

In addition, without the harness, you will not have IGN power to your new radio (the Databus sends a command to the radio to turn on, as the power to the unit is always hot, but not connected until commanded). You can add an IGN wire up from the MBEC, but it will not allow for RAP (Retained Ignition Power).

There are several module/ adapter manufacturers and different part numbers dependent upon Bose/Lux/Non-lux/On-star equipped trucks. The price can vary quite a bit between brands and applications, and the correct part must be obtained, 'cuz if you order the wrong one, electrical parts can be a PITA to return.

I've been in the same boat. All you can do is just suck it up and pay for the ridiculously priced harness. I bought mine at Best Buy.

Go to Walmart and just buy the Scosche GM2000 adapter. Its like 20 bucks and will keep your chimes.
