Just like Mike330R, I too have a Volant air intake system and was thinking in my same matter as Mike. He just beat my to the punch.

Well my homemade cold air intake add-on cost me less than $20.00 and 3 hours in the ER for a tetanus shot and 6 stitches in my left index finger. The utility knife bit me. OUCH !!!!

Here are some pics:

It's zipped tied to the truck frame. Also, that piece on the end sticking out of the hole is a drainage screen for a outdoor drainage system.

BTW, before I put on that end piece, I started my truck and was amazed. I put on hand just inside the opening and I could feel a slight suction as the air going in pass over my hand.....and that was at idle.

Nice setup, does it make a difference in performance?

Thanks !!! Seems like it does when I go WOT. Gotta make a difference since its opened up better and its getting forced up in there. Dont you think?

96vette:
That might be true but just means I need to pay more attention to the filter and "recharge" it sooner. Not a real big deal.

I do get a lot more people looking down there and wondering...."What's that thing???? " Are the scared? Are they wondering....."What's under that hood???? "

BTW, I do get a little more whine sound from the turbo. :ro)

Probably not a good idea to that if you live in a wet state like mine...You could probably grow mushrooms in that thing with all the water available...

Why not a conventional snorkel type apparatus??
