I was reading that the Touareg will have a diesel option in 2006 with some pretty wicked numbers. I am interested considering these things always win those long races and what not. Just wondering if anyone knows more about this than me -- oh yeah I am sure it is old news to some, but oh well...

They have had them since 04.
I drove one, it was a smooth bullet. Throw some big tires on it, add some protection items, and it would be a beast off road.......

VW discontinued them for 2005. I work for EERO VW in AK. I'm not sure why but I suspect that VW makes more money on them in the UK.

From Truck Trend, July/August 2005, page 14:
"No V-10 TDI--An unexpected EPA test requirement forced VW to suspend sales of the 2005 model. Hopefully, it'll return for 2006".

Thing did not pass specs in something like 5 or 7 states. I think is was Conn, Mass, or in that general area and Cali. Look for more than 32k psi with a twist on the newer version.

It will be back in 07 when the clean diesel comes to the US. my brother works for VW and they claim they will bring over all the diesel when that happens. the EPA test affected more then just VW. it happened to BMW and MB.

Hello from germany,
I've heard, that Mercedes will sell his ML 320 CDI in 2006...when
the diesel fuel is going better in USA. And if this happened...VW sells their big TDI's in USA too .:D

I think VW managed to sell about 500 of the '04s. Its a sweet powerplant but comes at an awwfully high cost vs. the gas options. As other's have mentioned, not available in '05 due to emissions. Given the '04 sales figures I wouldn't be surprised if they passed on the US market even when/if they can beat the EPA.
