: Hangin up in gear
dieseltruckin01 08-02-2009, 11:51 PM So my tranny pulled a new trick today. It started hangin up in gear under full or almost full throttle. Had my PPE on level 2, so I reset back to stock and it still does it. If I let off a little it will shift fine, but under throttle it wont. Any ideas???
dmerre89 08-03-2009, 12:53 AM How old is your fuel filter?
dieseltruckin01 08-03-2009, 09:01 AM Don't know for sure. But it's not been changed recently I know.
superpro56 08-03-2009, 09:35 AM Change the fuel filter, my bet is it goes away.
JC1843 08-03-2009, 10:34 AM X5 Change the fuel filter!
dieseltruckin01 08-03-2009, 05:56 PM LOL. Well, I changed it and wow. I never thought that a fuel filter would cause a tranny not to shift. Thanks ya'll.
SS Crew 08-03-2009, 06:51 PM If the fuel pressure is so critical on these trucks, would it be better to run a lift pump to maintain needed line pressure and avoid problems like this and actually get more life out of the fuel filters?

Yes and WTF happened to your truck

That's what happens when you hydroplane at 70mph, go from the #1 lane (closest to the center divider) to the #4 lane, spin 180 degrees, slam into the guardrail hard enough to send me airborne, land on the drivers' side of the roof and slide down the freeway for about 300 feet.
The lesson I learned is: If you think you should get new tires pretty soon - get off your ass and get them - or you'll need a new truck pretty soon.
I was very lucky and walked away with a 1/8" glass cut behind my left ear and a sore shoulder.
I'm almost embarrassed of what I replaced it with.....a Dodge. I must have been still suffering from some sort of delayed brain trauma. I wanted to replace my truck with what I had before, but in mid February/early March there were no trucks available anywhere and the factories were shutting down for an unknown period. I wanted a GMC SLT or Chevy LTZ that didn't have black leather - I wanted either white, red, steel grey, or blue granite. There was nothing out there unless I wanted black or silver with black interior or a stripper (truck).
I saw the '09 Dodge 1500's on a lot and test drove one - for the 15 minute test drive I liked it, (remember, I had been driving an HHR for 3 weeks).
Well about a week and a half after I bought the truck (against my wife's wishes), I knew I made a mistake. It wallows, doesn't have a solid feel and the body metal is so thin that when I was leaning over the fender to wash the hood, the key fob in my pocket made dent in the fender just by leaning on it.
I've had a multitude of problems with that truck and have a lemon law attorney working on it right now - I hope to hear something in the next couple of weeks.
I've got a GMC Sierra scoped out if and when I get Dodge to take back this P.O.S. my wife will be very happy to see the Dodge go, and my home life will return to normal once again.
The part that really sucked is that my insurance company put me in an HHR rental car. The next day going to work in the rain really made me feel so vulnerable. I've got a Vette, but I never drive that in the rain, but that car has a solid feel to it. That HHR just feels like it's made out of old beer cans and can be crushed at a moments notice.
Uggghh! It gives me the chills just thinking about it.

You might get a few more miles out of your filter-- but how do you know the lift pump is not pushing the crap to the CP3 and injectors?
People should be happy that all they have to do is change the filter and go! :D

So everyone with lift pumps are damaging there CP3's and injectors

Yeah, he will have a hard time convincing anybody of that statement. Lift pumps solve more problems then they cause.
racerx909 08-05-2009, 06:16 PM I only have about 2k on my filter and it started acting like this. How long should filters last? I think I have an injector going out, would this contribute to the filter clogging in some way?
IGO1320 08-05-2009, 08:04 PM I would think that it is more likely that a filter clogging quickly is causing an injector to go out (because of whatever is clogging it) than the other way around.

You may have some crap in your tank, or really bad fuel. Do you treat every tank? Could be algae in the tank too, normally, we change our filters out about the same time as oil changes ~7500 miles.
racerx909 08-06-2009, 10:33 AM Ive been trying out different additives, but yeah every tank. BTW, I think Im sold on stanadyne.
fuelhogg 08-07-2009, 04:56 PM im thinkin i might of had the same problem yesterday i was tearin around town after work and when it wanted to shift into 3rd it just hung there till i let off. fuel filter maybe ? the juice was on level 3
