Well, my 6.5 cracked a head and messed everything up.. I'm wanting to swap to a 5.7 350. Found one locally on craigslist....
http://lubbock.craigslist.org/pts/1300634004.html
Anyway.. What all do I need to swap it out. Should it bolt to the tranny? Also, currently my truck is Mechanically fuel injected because the did the swap from Electronic to Mech a few years back... and this engine is electronic fuel injected... What do I need to do??
What else do I need to get?
Please help!!
Oh and I dont care about gas milage or pulling power or anything like that. I drive a mile to work every day and thats about it. Sometime do some errands..

are you in the lubock texas area or where are you?
you will need the entire engine, accessories, all sensors, wiring harness, computer, fuel tank sending unit (fuel pump here), radiator (smaller hose connections, exhaust pipes (cat) and if you are in texas you will have problems with inspections by having to go to a state operated station for the mismatch vin.
personally it is a lot less work fixing/replacing your existing 6.5
what is messed up? did you let it sit with water in the cylinders?
working engines can be found for less than 1500$ in good condition.
used heads for less than 200ea.

You're going to need a complete wiring harness for the 350 engine, along with the ECM for it. Transmission will bolt up, however the torque converter from the diesel MAY have a different bolt pattern, but I doubt it. You will need the sending unit for a gas engine (assuming it fits in the diesel tank), new fuel lines front to back, a different gauge cluster (tachometer won't read right/high enough), proper air cleaner setup, new starter, new alternator, power steering pump MAY not have the same mounting bosses, new exhaust system... you should be able to make the diesel radiator work with the 350 engine.
It would be best to have a donor truck to work with, especially so you know how to hook up all the wiring. You might be better off either putting a carburetor on that engine, OR I believe either Painless Wiring, or Holley, makes a "stand alone" TBI setup, which would make it a bit easier.
While it really isn't all that difficult per say, it is time consuming, and all the little parts you need to make it work can nickle and dime you to death. Before you buy an engine, I would suggest you price out every single thing you can think of that you will need (some listed above) and see which is a better choice.

Well my uncle is a mechanic and he said I will need a whole new 6.5. I guess it messed up the whole block.
Where are good 6.5s for less than 1500?? Cause the cheapest I found was 2200 about 2 hrs away.. not including labor. I dont see how all the stuff i will need could possibly be more than that if I went to gas..
So if I get a donor truck.. what kind of truck should I be looking for? I would like to do carberated just cause it seems like it will be cheaper.
I found a earlier 80s model suburban for 875.00.. something like that???

we just had a whole in excellent condition 94 2500 auto trans that was listed on craigs list for 1500$ i will see if it is still available. the only problem was it would not crank and not engine related. i suspected a bad wire to starter or a bad starter. it would hand turn no problem it had only 135k miles

If you want to swap your 6.5 out for a 350 or another gasser you may want to check out some other conversion forums...
This forum is here mainly for those that need help or help others with the 6.5L Diesel... IMO I would keep the diesel. Also... if you only go to work a mile from house, get a bicycle and ride your way to and from work.

I agree, completely. That is a very rare vehicle. A 2 door Tahoe is rare enough, let alone with a 6.5TD. Now figure that amount of rarity in one year, yes, one year. 1994 Was the only year of the 6.5TD Blazer. Unless something else happened somewhere, a cracked head is not means for engine replacement. Finally, getting an injected gasser to run in there will most likely cost more than putting another 6.5 in. If you're dead set on the 350, please do the 6.5 community (and yourself) a favor and sell the Blazer, then buy something with the 350.

Yea sounds to me like its time for a new truck. Sell that 6.5 to someone else and get you something else to drive. If you dont need a truck or SUV (doesnt sound like it just driving a mile to work and some errands here and there) then id say its time for a car. Swapping in a 350 is a big hassle and big expense and IMO a 350 is a big pile of crap. I will never ever own another 350 and aside from the 305 i have now i will never own another small block chevy ever again. They are the only engines ive blown up without trying.
