: Smoking Edge?

My dad has an '03 with an older version of Edge on his truck. Here lately, in his travels with his hauling business, he has noticed a lot of white smoke while towing and using Edge. When he takes it off everything runs clean, no smoke. He has noticed no difference in how the Edge performs, just the fact that it will smoke a lot. It has been in for injectors but the dealers say everything is normal. Anyone have a suggestion as to what might be up with the truck and or Edge. By the way, the Edge never did anything like this on his '01 he had.

Is it the latest edge?

If not, maybe you can get a free update?:)

Nope, it is one of the first Edge versions. I am kinda wondering if being an older version of Edge on a newer truck had anything to do with it smoking up a storm.

White smoke? It should be black.

the truck is running rich then... I spray diesel in my pipe sometimes and its white... when im in low stage it throws a light gray sometimes so that might be it if your in a low stage and pullin

If your truck is smoking white there is a problem!!! Its not normal. Have him yank the juice and see what happens first. Edge is very good to deal with. If you dont get smoke with no juice call them. If you still have smoke you have problems. There is a big difference between white and grey smoke. White can be water or it can be WAY to much fuel. I run an Xtreme and it dosnt smoke white, its a wee bit more fuel than an edge;)

I would first l;ook over the simple things like air and fuel filters. From there, I guess I'd be looking at the tag on the Juice and see what version it is. White smoke is not a common Edge occurrence, so I'd suspect the truck first.

Pop's updated me and said that it is smoking (white) now all the time, trailer or not. He has had Edge off of it for two days now and it smokes worse now than it did then. It also feel's like it is missing at idle. I know the diesel can't miss but that is what he said it felt like. I am thinking injectors but a few weeks ago, when he found the oil level too high the dealer told him all was normal. Pops said it was definitely diesel in the oil so the dealer is full of it. They even changed the oil and the next day after driving it a few hundred miles (on the way home) he found the oil level high again.
So now, with the white smoke and surging idle, that is a sure sign of injector failure correct? The dealer is about to have to do something or get my Pop's foot up their a** for not wanting to fix his truck.

sorry to hear about your fathers problems with the truck, but unfortunately i think itīs even worse then the injectors. iīve got long experience from enginerepairs, (both diesel and gasoline) back here in SWEDEN.. I definately would say that one or both headgaskets are blown:( -:t . have the dealer check it out before spending any money or time at any thing else.

hope they will fix it for your father!!:o:

Sounds like it's time for new injectors.

8 new injectors should be just what the DR ordered, BUT expect possible hangupsover fuel quality/contamination filter restriction etc. if the dealer is as ignorant as it would seem. Be sure that he crosses his T's and dot's his i's before taking it in...

Well he finally talked, persuaded, or whatever he had to do and got the dealer to replace the injectors. He should have it back by Friday so we'll see then.

I think he should have the dealer install a set of KD-40's to ensure that it will smoke black and not white!!):h :D

That would be sweet! Well, got the truck back yesterday and they replaced all 8 injectors some pipes and sleeves. #6 was bad, when they cancelled it the smoking stopped. Guess you never can tell. Thanks for all the help, another injector issue solved, for now.
