Hello all. I am looking into diesel trucks. I've been looking at the Powerstrokes and have a fairly good basis of info on them. Now I want to learn about the Duramaxes. I'm wanting to run Biodiesel. I understand that GM only allows B5 or 5% biodiesel for warranty purposes. Put that aside for a minute and lets say that I'm gonna run B100...yep 100% Biodiesel. I have a local place that has ASTM B100. Eventually I would like to make it myself, but I would dare put it in the tank until it was verified that it met ASTM standards. So, whos the guru around here. Please feed me all the knowledge you have. If you do not know the particulars on biodiesel, let me know which Max to get. I'm leaning toward the LBZ as it seems to be the "best built" of them. What problems might arise of I use B100? Do the Max's have problems with injectors? I'm looking into ALL my options BEFORE I purchase my first diesel truck. Well...all options except Dodge! Granted I like the Cummings....too bad it has a Dodge wrapped around it! Thanks for you help/advice in advance---BioDiesel Bob

the LBZ is a great engine, but truthfully, all duramax's run great on B100. my buddy brews his own and he has a LB7 and i have the LBZ. both our trucks run great on it and see a little better fuel mileage! two friends of ours have ford powerchokes and they run worse on the bio. i wouldnt worry about runnin B100 at all if you buy a duramax! living here in minnesota and wisconsin, we see temps of up -70 degrees and our fuel doesnt gel up. a lot of people say that bio gels up easier, but we havent had any problems! we dont even bother plugging our trucks in at night unless its gonna drop below -30

I run nothing but B100 in my LBZ with zero problems. I've been doing it since new.

I have a 2005 LLY and have been running B100 4 months after I bought it and have been running B100 ever since (4 years). The only problems that I have had is a few plugged filters when I rushed my brewing process and wasn't quite up to a good quality which was 100% my fault.
As you are conducting your research, I'm sure you have figured out that unlike the first response experience, biodiesel has less energy therefore less MPG and also has a higher gel point than petroleum based diesel and has to be taken into consideration depending on your location.
