I bought a used EFI Live V1 for my 2004.5 LLY.

I brought up the Scan tool, entered my VIN and proceeded to poke around. I could see things and read the PCM where I can see the VIN and the Op Sys. All looked fine except some code about a right front speed sensor (probably what has been triggering my ABS light). I cleared all codes.

I then tried the Tuner. First, to read the stock tune and save it - just as the tutorial explains. All seemed to be going well until I hit Start. It went to 5k and hung. I waited awhile, then clicked Stop. It seemed to reboot the PCM, asked me to turn off the ignition, then counted 15 seconds. I tried again and this time unselected the fast link option. This time 21k. Next time 35. Next time 54. Next time 100. Then two more times at 21. It just won't read and keeps hanging.

I tried to read the PCM from the tuner. It sees LLY and the right Op Sys, but the VIN shows N/A.

I have done nothing else and will now start reading the manuals in detail. I installed the LBZ mouthpiece and CAI, so I kinda need to get in to fix those tables, but I'm not touching anything before saving my original setup.

And yes I removed all the Banks stuff before I got started just in case that could mess something up.

Any ideas??

Try another Usb port on computer some time that helps.. and also reading your stock tune at a slower pace may help.

Unsure if the V1 is a highspeed and lowspeed device like the V2. See if there is a setting to program at a slower speed.

I didn't word it right. That's what I meant when I said I unselected the fast link. I tried at slow speed over and over for more than an hour.

I just tried again. It got to 84k of 1024k. I watched the EFI box. It has 3 LEDs flashing, then the red one goes out and it all stops.

I disconnected everything to try again. This time I brought up the Scan tool first. I read the PCM and wrote down all the info. I made sure the VIN and OS were right. Then I started the Tuner from the Scan tool pulldown. It started up in DEMO mode! Now the Read PCM Calibration option is ghosted and no longer available! I checked in the Registration and now all the fields are blank. I bought this from another DP member, so I don't have the "key" that it's looking for.

I turned everything off and started it again as I did the first time by starting the software first and then connecting. The Read PCM Calibration option is back, but it still didn't work. I checked the registration and the keys are listed as all ????? Maybe I need to talk to someone from EFI LIve?

I got told to pull the fuse to my aftermarket battery and make certain everything else is off. I'm going to go try that.

off topic but......fyi that abs light/speed sensor code might be a front hub/bearing assembly going out

Thanks! I just had the left side go out, so you may be right. I was going to check the wires first, but I'll see if there is any play in the hub as well.

Thanks!

Okay, so that didn't work. Radio fuse out, everything else off. Started to read, got to 68k of 1024 (on slow speed) and froze.

Here's my info:

EFI Live
Tuner: V7.3 Build 380
Scanner: V7.3.3 Build 340
obdii V7.dll V7.3.1 (Build 486)

PCM 9377500
PCM OS: 15141668

Firmware FSP 1.2.17 Jan 18, 2005
S/N 003542135359

The problem now is that after the first try, it won't read the PCM any more. The gauges stay flat and EFI acts like it isn't connected.

Looks like I'm going to have to hitch a ride to work in the morning!

Anybody have any ideas?

V7.3 is a very old version. I'd take a guess and say that it's about 18 months out of date (possibly longer). You will need to upgrade your software to our current release - EFILive V7.5.5 Build 88 (June 2009).

I know we've made LOADS of changes since 7.3, but can't tell if old software is going to be the cause of your problem, but it's certainly a good place to start the trouble shooting.

Cheers
Cindy

I bought it used from a DP member.

I just got back from vacation, so I'll start playing with it again. I'll download the software and update that first. I already had the dealer install the lastest load so I have a clean install (with the LBZ mod for the MAF).
