: No Reverse Suddenly!!!

Backed out of the driveway this am-no problem. Arrived in town-no reverse when trying to back into a parking space. A message appeared in the DIC but, unfortunately, in my haste, I didn't write it down. Found a different parking spot, left the truck for several hours, came back, and now I have reverse again! Anyone have any experience with this sort of problem? Do you think it will recur? Should I take it in to the dealer just in case? Help!

sounds like an NSBU switch to me, if its a warantee deal still I wouldnt hesitate to take her in.

"Shift range inhibited" sound farmiliar? ;)

Make sure they put a tan switch on if its the problem, there is a tsb about it, its pretty well known

Alot of times if you cycle the gear shifter from 1 to P a few times and sometimes restart the truck the switch will quit spazing. but thats a get you home deal, if its freaking get it fixed.

Ratlover,

That's the message! "Shift Range Inhibited"! I knew someone here would immediately know what was going on. I had tried going from P to D a few times, but never went all the way from P to 1. In either case, it had temporarily "cured" itself whan I re-started it later on. I'll have it looked at. Only (ONLY!) 30,000 miles on it so it's still under warrantee. Thank you very much!

Guess what? Took the truck to the dealer yesterday, they put in on the machine to run the codes, and they tell me it's not the NSBU switch, but some other kind of switch. Is it possible that something else may have caused my problem or is the problem they're detecting on the codes unrelated to my problem? I'm wondering how a problem with a confirmed history of being caused by the NSBU switch, so much so that GM has issued a bulletin about it, could now be caused by something else. I'm scheduled to have this "other" switch installed on Wednesday. Any thoughts?

Input sensor on bell housing can cause it and PressureSwitchManifold on valvebody can cause it.

I doubt its the NSBU switch on an 04 LLY truck, that should have the new single connectors switch which is much improved.

Well, I went back to the dealer yesterday and, as it turns out, they said it was the Pressure Manifold Switch which they replaced. When I was leaving, I mentioned that at least they had managed to find the problem, and I shouldn't have to worry about it coming back. Oh, contrar! He said that I shouldn't be too surprised if the problem recurs. Yikes! What's up with that???

Sounds like they aren't confident in their diagnosis.

lakingslayer,

It sounds that way to me too, but it's hard to argue with, "We put it on the machine, ran the codes, and that's what came up!" At least it's one of the things that was suggested might be wrong, even if it might go wrong again.

I was backing out of my driveway and had a similar experience. I was in reverse and went into drive to move the truck over in the driveway. I did this two or three times and on the last try I got the shift range inhibited message. I ran the predator to check the code and got a P0700. The weird thing is that after around 3 cycles of the ignition and a fault reset, the P0700 code wouldn't show. I understood that the predator could not reset a P0700 ?? But I ran a diagnostic check three more times and each time found no codes ??

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a PO700? Anything to do with the problems I was told it could be? Do you have any plan to investigate further or do any additional follow-up?

A P0700 code is the TCM Telling the ECM there are codes in the TCM. You need a scanner that can scan TCM codes to see what went wrong. Most scanners only scan the ECM which you will only see a P0700 code if the tranny has thrown codes.
