: Compact Diesel help
jjfcube 07-31-2009, 01:39 AM Hello, I am new to the forums and am interested in getting into the compact diesels. I currently have a 12 hp stock cub cadet that I do pretty well with. I have been interested in these tractors for a while and am finally getting around to getting into it so any suggestions like what kind of engine, tractor frame, or anything that would be helpfully would be greatly appreciated.

jjfcube 08-11-2009, 06:04 PM Thanks man, I am finishing up some remolding and have to see where I am going to be at this fall. If I don't get to you by this fall it will probably be around the first of the year.

King Nuzz 09-02-2009, 02:12 PM Iceman,
Whose diesel engine do you put in your 1/4 scale pullers?

We build Kubota D1105 engines.
One guy uses a Shibura, what Cat & Perkins put their decals on, called by many a Perkapiller.
Some guys use Yanmar.
silverbeast 10-18-2009, 12:37 PM damn those are sweet. what kind of power are they making?
mx2702001 10-18-2009, 09:26 PM Seems to be more interest finally from cat and cummins getting in to smaller diesel engines

From what I understand CAT bought mazda, the new small cats are really a mazda engine. The same with cummins, I think the small cummins are built by isuzu.
alanharnish 10-19-2009, 08:48 PM That's cool very nice. I could get into something like this.
mx2702001 10-20-2009, 10:48 PM Well Mazda makes sense with cat since cat and navistar are working on new truck engine line based off cat built by international. Any one have those compact IH tractors which were mazda powered i think. Love to see those compact diesels run dont have any to speak of where i pull. I wont trade 680 cubes at this point lol
Bigkrank 10-21-2009, 04:51 AM We've been building parts for these compact pullers for guys that have full size super stocks. They are the only guys who have no problem writing a check because they see it as cheap compared to what they are used to.

kdgg923 04-21-2010, 07:13 PM What kind of trans/rear end do yall use?
cub124 05-26-2010, 10:41 AM id assume a cub rear end would be fairly strong, i always wanted to turbo i 3 cyl yanmar engine and put it in my cub, i currently have a stock 12HP in it. id like to cam it for this summer.:D
michaeljp86 05-26-2010, 06:38 PM What kind of trans/rear end do yall use?
Back in high school they had a crystler rear end that was cut down for a pulling tractor.
I would think any car rear end would hold up just fine.
Loader 07-07-2010, 09:21 PM That's too cool. I have a Cub Cadet 1512 with the Kubota engine. I've often wondered what a turbo would do for it...

A Mitsubishi TD02 twin scroll would do you fine.
BadBoyesPulling 08-26-2010, 04:44 PM Hey Bigkrank,
I recently built a Cub with a D1105 in it also. I'm continuing it's modifications and am wondering what kind of Turbo you run?? A friend of mine recommended nothing over 3 inches but I'm wondering if I can run something a little bigger.
Thanks, BadBoyesPulling :)
cub124 08-27-2010, 01:48 AM same here there has be be a common car turbo that would work other than smart car, i have a one off a 4 cyl saab, its not like id be worried about lag
BadBoyesPulling 08-27-2010, 05:03 PM Thanks Cub124,
I have a turbo with off a John Deere Compact Diesel so I'm thinking of running it. Its almost brand-new and it has like a 1 inch fan in it. How big is the turbo off the Saab??
Thanks, BadBoyesPulling
cub124 08-27-2010, 09:39 PM im not sure about the compresser wheel but the intake inlet is anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 inches i can check later i havn't seen it in awhile its in the adic
Josh2002cc 08-30-2010, 02:07 PM When you kids step up to a puller with a Kubota V3300 you come let me know :D

What is your friend smoking? Are you talking inlet? You can put on as big as you want but you won't turn it enough to make big boost. Don't be fooled by the guys at the tractor shows who throw turbos on and drive around the fairgrounds. They are just toys for looks.
Mitsubishi TD02 if you don't have it built to the hilt and are going to maybe use it for something. A Garrett GT12 or GT15 if you are a little more serious.
You ain't goin to turn the Saab turbo hard enough, it's like a T25 or T28

I don't know anywhere that has a class for that size. There are a few places you can use the VW TDI and 4 cylinder Izuzu's.
With the 3 valves per cylinder it likely wouldn't be allowed anyways. The indirect injection would put it at a disadvantage anyhow.
cub124 08-31-2010, 07:12 AM yeah i figured you'd say good luck turning the saab turbo lol, a local guy just built one and pulled it the other day at the fair and the turbo on it is tiny but the numbers are high, hes using an oil pressure gauge for a boost gauge
