I need a little knowledge here. I am about to trim up the stock megaphone tip and weld on a MBRP dual wall tip. I am needing to know if there are any precautions I need to take with welding on the exhaust. As far as unhooking batteries.. etc etc. Thanks in advance for the help.

just make sure you have a good ground and all will be fine.

Disconnect all battery terminals. I personally smoked an ECM on my 99 gasser, putting on dual exhaust by my self. That is NOT covered under warranty. I would do it to be safe! Oh, and when you are done post some pics, I'd like to see how good it looks with the musket gone!

Clean it up good on the areas to be welded (with a grinder or something). Its aluminized and won't penetrate well if you don't ;)

Check out bow-tielover's garage.. He is the one that gave me the idea. I will also post pics when I'm done.

joec, I only removed the muffler for now. Beleive me I would've love to have lost everything under there but I have to wait a little longer. Don't have nothing but time in the muffler removal due to having the pipe given to. So far there is a small sound difference but haven't seen or felt an egt or performance difference yet.

What all are you doing to your exhaust?

im a high pressure welder and have welded on my truck many times with various projects one of which being straight piping my 4" duals. Make sure your ground is secure and your not going to knock it off and your golden.

I just cut the muffler off and welded on a pipe. Yes, I did disconnected both terminals on both batteries to be save.

Well I finally got time to take that tip off. Here are some pics. I ended up cutting the tip about 0.5-1 inch off "center" of "brackets to the end of tip." Then took the removed piece, turned it around, and put it back onto the other side. Making the tip fit a little tighter at the brackets. I also ended up bolting the tip on vs. welding it on. The second picture shows the cut piece turned around and shoved back on as you can see the edge by the brackets. In the picture the edge is rough but I did not take any pictures with it cleaned up. Overall, install was quick and easy. Took no longer than an hour, and I took my sweet time making everything look clean from drill holes etc. Also, the bolts went through the new tip, and both layers of the old musket tip.
