This is our new Standalone VNT Turbo Controller running a 64mm/71mm Cheetah on an '05 CR Cummins. It's making 48 psi and spoolup is instantaneous. It includes the braking features as well.

The good news.. It will work on an LB7 to allow those engines to run a VNT Cheetah turbo!

Thanks,

Brayden

Hehe... I wondered how long it would take for somebody to catch that. I figured he would've slowed a bit but he was going to keep on pulling 6th gear out and that tops out over 120.

I hope they like it!.. I've tried setting a VNT turbo down into an LB7 before and it interferes in a few places but nothing that can't be overcome. I'll post pics tomorrow morning.

This is BS I don't all the other trucks to be able to make the cool jet sound. The LB7s ok but you just had to bring the cumapart guys into this?????

Way to go Brayden that is bad ass I was hoping this wouldn't get dropped because of EFI.

Haha you guys think it sounds cool, you should ride in it. Now because of my big fat mouth Im behind the power curve in the ole cottage, now Im the one playin catchup with the roommate. No serious this truck is rediculous, It makes boost instantly, and I mean Instantly, and when the vanes are closed down keepin it lite it holds boost even through shifts, with almost "0" lag.

And yes it will work on the ole 12v, It is completely standalone, so you could put it on your lawn mower and put the Dixie Chopper to shame, I donno im just sayin.

Well I need a price PM'd, I seriously need to look into this. I have more than enough HP in my old VE cummins to run 12's but keeping the turbo lit between shifts is going to be hard. I plan on being the first VE powered cummins with a getrag to run 12's, and this wouls certianly help.

No you can buy a variable turbo like on lly lbz lmm and put it on any other diesel and have the vanes now work with the standalone controller. Plus it can be used as an exhaust brake.

Brayden is still working on putting the final touches on the kit to be sold, I dont think he has a set price set as of right now, you can PM him or contact Fleece Performance via the contact info on the website. But bear in mind this thing has drummed up alot more interest than I think anyone anticipated, My roommate got a call today from a guy in the north west wanting to talk about this setup on his truck, so like all the cool things these guys have put out, were just going to have to be patient and see what comes next.

I guess I don't quite understand how this works. Is there a base boost curve programmed into the unit and the dial just adds a percentage throughout the curve? Say turn the dial 10* and that adds 15* of vane position. I am curious as to how it works. I am not nocking it at all. I just don't see how one unit can work for infinit different motor combinations. Just like a little more info

Brayden
08-04-2009, 11:39 PM
You're close..

There is a base map that is adjustable via software. That can be tailored to your engine setup and turbo size. It will control the turbo based off that map and the inputs to the controller. When you want more boost you can dial in more vane position, or cut some boost out of it at cruising situations by dialing it down.

Hope that helps.

Brayden

I really want to do this swap now! Been following all the threads on this and still can't figure out what other parts I need besides the turbo, and new down pipe. Brayden, what other parts should I be collecting for this swap? If you can supply me with everything needed then I don't have to worry. Now the I need find the $$$ for this! Can't wait to see your results duramaxdiesel.

duramaxdiesel
08-11-2009, 10:35 AM
When I talked to Brayden he said all I needed was the down pipe. He's going to take the front cover from my LB7 Cheetah and put it on the LBZ VVT so that I can keep my aFe Stage II for now. I am bouncing off the walls waiting for the turbo to arrive. I can't wait! Man, I can't wait!! Results will be posted right as soon as it's installed.

Talked to Jeff at FPE today and there was a little delay but it was shipped out today. Can't wait!
Yeah it's really cool that I don't have to buy a new air intake. There is no pedestal that needs to be bought. From what I know the LBZ Cheetah should bolt right up in place of the old IHI. I could be wrong but all I bought to do the swap was a Diamond Eye down pipe.
For the price, it's really not too bad if you think about what you get. AlliLock, turbobrake, VNT controller and Cheetah turbo. Hope you get one too. Maybe seeing her start up for the first time with that whistle will push you over the edge :D

i want a little extra umph, my current truck isnt worth building the engine with 325 xxx km and i want to be different. Isnt the lbz turbo bigger than an IHI?

Turbo just arrived at the border!!!:D:D On the way to pick it up and going to install asap!
Talking to Brayden he said that I shouldn't see a difference between my 71.5 LB7 Cheetah and the 68 LBZ VVT Cheetah. The tuning that Brayden did to my truck is incredible. Also having 40% injectors helps some. Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! Should be up and running by the beginning of next week.

motovet
11-13-2009, 02:41 AM
MMm... maybe I'm missing something here, but I thought a controller would allow better braking control for one....And Brayden says there will be something for the LMM in the future. All I'm after is better grade braking for the fiver, and thought I'd look at this option.
The 02' with exhaust brake was far better down the steep stuff.

capflya
11-13-2009, 07:59 AM
IIRC EFI Live has exhaust brake capabilities in the LMM already... maybe you could contact JK since he tuned your truck and see what he can do for ya? Maybe you could just buy the EFI part and a DSP switch and have him setup the tunes or give you a hand...

That way with the DSP you could have a designated "tow" tune that has exhaust braking built in and then some other tunes of your choice.

Just my $0.02 :D

motovet
11-14-2009, 02:08 AM
That would work alright. I guess with the 02' I got used to being able to have the brake on or off with the switch, and I also ran a larger switch with an in cab controller so I could crank it down more when needed. In other words having adjustability on the fly would be nice. The Banks unit looks nice, but it is kind of set it and forget it....and expensive.
