I am currently running a PPE lev. 2 tune on a stock truck as per my signature and have a few questions. I am totally happy with the way the truck runs with this tune as far as a power and mileage compromise.

Is it safe to do some "light" towing at this tune on a stock tranny? I haul a 12' utility trailer with three medium size ATV's.

1. Would you recommend dropping to lev 1 for towing?

2. At what towing weight do you consider tow/haul mode a must?

I called PPE and was advised than level 2 is the recommended tune for towing with stock trans. I have been using level 2 towing @9-10,000 lbs without issues, I do have a 4" turbo back exhaust which helps keeping the EGT's in chk. which I monitor with an Edge Insight. I use tow haul and manual 5 as I tow in the Rockies and this keeps EGT's lower than Drive does. I do however shift to Drive for long decents for the trans. braking.

x2 PPE level 2 is designed as a towing tune! it however does still carry enough extra horsepower to take out your stock tranny in the long run, so dont abuse it!

I don't tow much but when i do it's on level 2, that was also before my aftermarket exhaust and gauges. I would say if you treat the tranny good while towing you should be fine.

lvl2 gets too hot on my truck so I use lvl1 when towing. I see over 1400* on 2 and up to 1250* on 1

i tow a 115 horsepower JD tractor on a 29ft gooseneck with a bullydog. egt's stay around 1050. thats with a stock tranny.
