I just cranked my torsion bars 2 rounds and put brand new shocks and greased the front end. But now when i turn or hit a hard bump I makes a pop sometimes 2 if the bumps are hard. Not real bad just noticable and drivin me nuts. My tech guy at my dealer thought it might be my cv join out. what do yall think?? Thanks

My 2wd did it on full turns going slow (like pulling into a parking spot). I cranked the torsion bars, put 285's on, and hit it realigned when the truck was 3 days old so I'm not sure if that was the cause. I've since had it realigned again and haven't heard the popping since. Hope it's that easy for you.
Take care,
Chris (Aggie Class of 96)

MIne pops on tight turns and it is boring a$$ stock right down to the pizza cutters.

A bad CV wil make a clicking noise when turning and will not make a noise when tracking straight (unless it is really trashed).
I am not too sure what a pop would be?? It could be alot of things but I would double check the alingment and all front end componets to ensure they are tight.

Did you happen to double check and make sure your shock mount bolts are at there correct torque setting? BigRedD/A.

Torsion bar pop, its quite common, youve got them cranked too much..my 96 4wd does it, if you want to fix it crank them back down and get the leveling kit or a lift kit.

My friend is a front end alignment tech. My 02d-max did the same thing on several occasions. It's the bolt that holds your camber and caster in alignment. If it gets a little loose it will pop as described. Dealer fixed mine. If you look through your wheelwell and you will see a washer with a 1/2 moon type of adjustment in it. Thighten this bolt on both sides and your problem should go away. If not a front end alignment will cure this.
My d-max had its torsion bars cranked 1/2 of an inch if I recall this was 4 turns?

thanks for all of the comments. and ill check everything yall said. I went to friona this weekend to see a buddy and he was ridin in the back and he thinks its my torsion bar on my driver side poppin. i forgot to mention when i cranked on them last time the driver side got tight like it bottomed out but it wasn't and the passenger said didn't. both have been cranked the same amount since ive had it. and my stepdad never touched it.
thanks again

its the torsion bar pop..I had it myself right after turning them up just a hair. the pop sounds like it falls off one thread on the bolt or something. its a sharp sounding pop unlike a cv or U pop which is a loud knock sort of.. anyways..
the drivers side popped a few times coming into the driveway, but hasn't done it since.
I think it may just be settling with the higher tension.

Guys, I've had my truck into the shop three times in the past month - same issue. Popping or clunking noise coming from somewhere under the passengers feet in the front end. GM greased some shaft or something associated with the drive train saying that's the problem 99% of the time (no improvements). Then the second time, they said "NPF", meaning no prob found (didn't really drive it on the road). Third time, I insisted a tech jump in with me. Right away he says, yep, that's problem, chassis is rubbing the frame. After third appointment, they inserted thin teflon spacers between the rubber "donut" grommets along the passenger side frame rail. Guess what? STILL POPPING!!! I keep telling them it sounds mechanical and ain't right. I'll check the torsion bar myself as indicated above, but this is ridiculous.
BTW - I have never touched the torsion bars and have had 285 BFG's on since day one. Had stock shocks on truck and never made the noise for first 12 months. Just started on day. Put on Bilsteins, still made same noise (no diff with either shock).
