Hired Gun...Awesome. I need to go out and attach my truck to a rail car or something...I am feeling a bit neglected these days. Since I sold off my race program I have not had anymore than about 8K lbs behind my truck..I loved carrying the big weight.

Thanks for the compliments. The hood is a Goodmark hood all steel, with GM stamp. Best fit and finish I have ever had. Yes that is a cow bell hanging from the front. Why? Well I dont know but it sure gets some looks in towns. I also have a chrome set of LARGE Bull balls on the rear. They have been fun. Why? Well a couple times I have had girls flash me on the interstate. They say you showed us yours so here is ours. WOW out they come. EHHEHEHEHE

Thanks again for the Wide Hip section.

Oh and those are sims. Can't afford wheels just yet, but someday.

:offtopic: Hey, XTOAK, I assume those are factory mudflaps on the rear of your truck, sorry, a bit off topic, but do you have a part # and did you have to drill holes or did they use factory holes? Thanks.

Sorry, I'm not XTOAK, but those are the OEM flaps! And no, there is no drilling. They come with the required hardware for installation and use the existing holes in the wheel well.

053500cc
05-18-2005, 04:44 PM
Well, I asked the parts guy at the dealer today and all they had was the universal ones, a little wider than regular, is that the ones? Sorry about asking in this topic, if it is not appropriate, please email me. Thanks:)

XTOAK
05-20-2005, 01:00 AM
When I purchased the truck, I insisted after the deal was closed that the flaps were part of the deal. The dealer relented as I was walking out the door and when I went to parts I told them I wanted the good ones...nothing junk. The parts guy winked at me and said he would take care of me as they didn't have them in stock and would send them to me in the mail.

They arrived a couple weeks later and I was very impressed....I don't have the stock number anymore but they are from the Chevy dealer and were a genine GM part. No drilling, great flaps! Huge and just right for those nasty spring breakups in Alaska!!

XTOAK & CrazyDaze, How do they mount? I know on mine there are 2 screws in the fender where the flaps would mount, did you just use these two screws to hold them on? I saw a set at the chevy dealer that looked like those, wider than normal, but don't cover both wheels like the big rubber ones. I just mainly want to keep tar and debris off my fenders. Thanks again and sorry for being :offtopic: .

XTOAK
05-20-2005, 03:26 PM
I just went and looked at mine and they attach via two screws (existing holes) in the fender and then I remember I had to drill one or two holes per the instruction into the lip of the fender. It was an easy drill and took me all of 10 minutes to install them.....

Hired Gun: What size J.I. CASE dozer you have on the trailer. Looks like a 550? Don't they weigh about 14,000

bigblackdmax
05-22-2005, 04:39 PM
It probly wieghs more than that cause this one wieghs around 22-24000 lbs.

rolloffhill
05-22-2005, 07:16 PM
If it's a 550g then it comes in around 14-15K, but if it's a 650g its around 15-16k.

Bigblack looks like you got a Deere, they aren't quite the same in size even though they have similar model numbers. Deere's are bigger compared to Case when your talkin 550 to 550... in operating weight anyways, not sure on HP's... but that is a whole nother subject:D

There was no painting required.
Let the truck sit in the sun for a while and that will soften the glue.
Then just start pulling.
You will need to get some of the glue off with your thumb or buy some
3M glue remover and rubbing compound to finish up.
I only needed the glue remover for my emblems

I just got t-boned by a semi. Peterbuilt towing a gravel belly dump trailer fully loaded. I was doing 50 mph. He came at me doing 25 mph from the right because he blew a stop sign. He hit my passenger side duallies.

It caused me to ricochet to the left. The truck was fully inspected. No damage other than the fender. A deer wiped out my left one. I now have two brand new rear fenders.

Best part is .. I got hit by a Peterbuilt and won!!!

FatBack Rig and all others....I am a "Dmax newbie", so there are terms that are unfamiliar to me. 1. What are sims? 2. will a chip alone really improve performance, or will it take a lot more mods?
I average 14.5 right now, but have only 1530 mi. Someone asked if mileage inproves with break-in....what's the answer?

like crap.

ive got very thick hard tires for alot of highway driving and off road security
ive had nails under 2 inches and never any leaks
also a small chunk taken out of the side that would make me worry about a regular tire
and have had no problems

i dont know compared to stock cause the only time i drove with the regular ones was in a test drive a long time ago

i did drive a 4500 kodiack i think? a couple months ago
it was a dream compared to mine though.

The roof lights are made by Recon a vendor here, they are the "Smoked" version. They have clear ones and white ones too I think.

Here's some picture's from Hidalgo, TX where we stay for the winter and two from a trip this summer with our new truck camper, it was taken during a rest stop at Mt. Robson, BC in Canada.
I put on new Bridgestone REVO's (245/75/16) with 2" spacers, before we left home to become "Winter Texans" again.

It's a Silverado, so it has power windows, locks, etc. I got it with 60K miles on the clock. I've put almost 10K on it. It runs and drives great and I don't foresee ever getting rid of it. I've got plans for a little more lift and a little bit bigger tires. Eventually, I'm putting in a diesel. I've got an extra 6V53 Detroit and 13 speed Roadranger overdrive that needs a new home. :ro) Just a thought right now though. Maybe later when it the big block doesn't run so well.

Hired Gun,

Thanks! That pic in your garage is pretty cool!! My Ford that I traded in was pretty good at filling Porsche windows full of soot! It was a 2000 SRW CC, wore it out. Had injectors, 4" exhaust, air box, superchip. Thought it was a pretty nice truck, till I got my new CHEVY!! Always been a Chevy guy but back in 2000 there diesel sucked. Actually the Ford was real good to me, got to where it wouldn't start when cold. Still ran good, just low on compression. I almost put a motor in it, glad I didn't. Your truck run high egt's pushing that much fuel? I pulled up to the ice races near the Continental Divide from Denver with the BD on perf level, wanted to run 1400 plus without even pushing it hard. Stock program wouldn't let it go much above 1250 and pulled real good (better than the Ford all turned up). Got it on extreme now, feels good, haven't pulled yet though.

Road Boss,

Thanks too, I'll post some more pics, what do you want to see?

Mike

My rear case cracked while doing 80 down interstate and fried my trans. Thats the reason why I upgraded AND added the brace!

How it shifts totally depends on how I drive it. IF I hot rod it, it clicks them off nice and firm (likely would bark in 1-2 AND 2-3 if the power were there). IF I drive like a sane person it feels just like stock to me maybe just tad more firm.

Hope that helps. :D

Hey Road Boss,

Here are a few more pictures I took today without the trailer on. It seems to drop about 3" when I put the trailer on. Probably have about 2-3,000 lbs of hitch weight when my trailer has one of my buggies and tires, parts, tools, etc... Tried to make it where it's close to level when loaded, with out air bags. My 2000 F-350 used to drop 5-6" so I almost had to put air bags on it.

Mitch,

That's grim, I've broken a few TH-350 cases in my rock racer, but that's from slamming in to boulders or rolling hard. Must have been a freak deal to break yours, eh? Does the brace attach to the T-case or more like an old brace case on the TH-400's? My tranny seems to be holding up real well to the extreme setting on the Bully Dog, just slow and soft shifting. Been doing some power brakers and they don't seem to be wounding it. I'll keep you guys posted as to how well it holds up. I'm planning on having to upgrade but not until this one feels like it's slipping or starts limping. 2500 hard miles so far.

Take care all,
Mike

Mike its my understanding that the rear cases are a weak piece and crack under (2) situations, one more than the other.

Condition 1 is a driveline vibration from an out of balanced driveshaft, busted u-joint, etc. This is what happened to mine. I had a slight vibration that I thought was coming from up front (so I wasn't worried about the case) but ended up being a busted u-joint in the rear drive shaft that was found while R&R my trans.

Condition 2 is LOTS of HP. This is the case that doesn't happen as often as I understand it. There have been countless HIGH HP trucks NOT break them this way but there are a couple cases that seem to lend itself to this. I think ratlover mentioned it.

To see how it attaches, there is currently a thread going about it in the Aftermarket Allison section with a picture showing it. You can decide for yourself if you think it is a "freak" accident or not from some testimonies there. I think its worth ever penny of the $200 price tag! Might have saved me a few grand as I was nowhere near ready to upgrade to a SCIII when this happened but did since it was the logical thing to do.

Just to repeat myself, you have a BAD A$$ TRUCK. Totally love the look you got going there. What size are those rims and tires? Any lift at all? Prefect looking.

Truck on!

Mike Palmer

Mitch,

What a trip on the tranny case! I looked at the brace, pretty simple yet effective. Good insurance! I'll be adding one when my tranny gets mad at me... Thanks for the heads up. Where's SmokeShow come from?

Thanks again for the compliment, I am really enjoying the truck. The wheels are Brentz 19.5 x 6.75's with the 265/70/19.5 Goodyears (34.1" tall x 10.3" wide). The sidewalls on the tires look like they are 1" thick! Craziest tire I've ever seen. I put the 4" rancho lift on and put enough torque on the adjustment bolts just to keep the keys located on the nuts. Ended up being about 2 1/2". The lower arms are real close to flat at ride height. I machined the rear spacers down to about 1.5" with 2 degrees of taper.

Truck on to you too!

As much as I hate to admit it (I really don't that just sounds good. :D) Before this truck I had a 96 12V Dodge and my screename on the Dodge sites was SmokeShow96. I got the smoke show par from doing smoke shows or blowing a lot of smoke for someone to see or get fogged with. Since I sold the truck and got this I have dropped the "96." I didn't change it to "02" or "2002" because this truck can NOT blow ANY smoke..... FOR NOW. ;) but I was kinda getting to be known by this name (not so much on here as I am on KYDTR.com) and so I at least left it at that simply for recognition.

Sorry for the book but thats it. Nothing to significant.

About the 1" hick sidewalls, hows the ride, honestly? And IF I ever did a susp. lift it would DEFINATELY be a 4" Just gets the truck to the perfect height ans stance to look aggressive BUT maintain its "truck" abilities.

Thanks Schmibm and Right on Roadboss!

Mitch, the ride is rough in the rough. Still really smooth when the road is smooth. They are kinda noisy too, but that's OK, I'm used to the powejoke. I too, had to maintain the "truck" abilities like you say, plus fitting under the gooseneck. Thus all of the work to keep it down as low as possible yet still get a good size tire under it.
I was real torn on the 19.5's, After reading what I could on this site, and lots of arguments in my own mind, I made the decision-Rickson's. Waited like 8 weeks for them to come, then we got a letter saying it was going to be another 8 weeks before they would be able to ship. Well that sucked. So then I started messing with 16" Alcoas and some 315's, got the spacers from Fred and everything. I figured that with a offset of around 9" on the inside wheel and the Alcoas on the outside wheel, I could probably shave the spacers down to around 1" and get it all to fit inside the wheel wells. The day after I ordered the Alcoas, guess what came in the mail? The Brentz wheels, all I did was call and inquire about them. I asked the guy how he was able to ship them without a purchase order and he said he knew if I saw them I would want them!!! Well he was right as you can see. They made me a smokin' deal too. Good company, good product!
Make sure to post some pics when you become the smoke show again! My old ford could do good ones. With this truck on the extreme mode I can get little puffs out of the exhaust. Big puffs out of the tires though!!!

Here's my 04 with the SS option package. I've also been looking for some aftermarket wheel/tire combo's. Trying to get educated on the 19.5's or bigger. Is the ride as bad as some say? Any help would be appreciated.

hey love the looks of the mbrp dually Can u tell me what u did for the lift cause when i was at bloomsburg i asked them about a lift for 05 dually and they told me dont have one and good luck. I would like to put 4-6 inches in the truck and run the 10 hole 10 lugg alcos. Also i have had your cool duals in the past on my 03 duramax and loved it got lots of compliments but am thinking about the smokers, how do they sound? is it worth it? or are the duals better?
