: Thanx.
figment 07-28-2009, 01:26 AM This word thanx just doesn't cut it sometimes. I recently had my truck totaled and with the insurance money, I bought the one vehicle I've always wanted since they came out. (check my garage).
But I found a few problem's since I bought it and found out a bunch of little things have culminated to a couple of big things. If it weren't for this site, and forum's, and to all of you who have stated their problem's and solutions to them, I Thank You... I've cured a few problem's and keep finding more. This vehicle was neglected for so long.. The IP seems to be the only new thing on it.
Started to get a little discouraged today, when it ran pretty well, for a day. Now getting codes. My wife already wants to jam a stick of dynamite into it.
Again thank you, please don't stop, I'll need these to go through this whole vehicle now....
Stuck in the garage.
matuva 07-28-2009, 02:09 AM That's a nice rig.
Hide away the dynamite sticks from your wife, and keep on curing this beast. Once you'll get her running after you do right maintenance and solved other little problems, I promise this beast will be a very faifthful companion.
You said she was neglected for a long time.
Make her clean, check and clean all grounds, especially the ones at the back of engine (passenger side) and the one on the frame, rear of front wheel, passenger side.
Check all fuel lines for possible air leaks or rotten parts
Test your lift pump, check wires and connectors, OPS (oil pressure switch, hidden under the harness, close the glow plug relay at the back of the engine)
Add a full bottle of Stanadyne fuel enhancer in the tank.
And, what are the codes she did throw ?
figment 07-28-2009, 06:58 PM The codes are 35, and 36. I noticed knkreb wrote in one post it "could" be a fuel supply issue. But I've talked to one mechanic, he said it's the eye inside(the IP) can't see. But I'm going to exhaust every other possebility first. I've borrowed a new PMD, and try it first. I have already installed a new LP,OPS, fuel relay, all of the grounds I've seen are on clean bare metal, but I'm painting over them to keep the corrosion from getting underneath them.
matuva 07-28-2009, 08:09 PM 35 and 36 codes. I bet you're using Ultra Low Sulfur diesel (ULSD) ?
those are usually codes telling that your IP is suffering. It might be failing, but it might be just "dirty" inside.
Pour 16 oz of Stanadyne Performance Formula Diesel Fuel Additive in your next tank refill. If you can, put some stanadyne straight into the fuel filter housing (half a whisky glass).
There's good hope this will cure these 35 & 36 codes.
Put 1/2 liter of marine 2 stroke oil in each refill after, this will restore lubricity in your diesel.
Be sure you use a TCW-3 2 stroke mineral oil which will burn ash free.
figment 07-29-2009, 08:03 PM Actually, in a 150 mile radius there is no such thing as ULSD, I've checked, supposed to be using in the new trucks at work but no such luck. Thanx for the advise on the additives, the tank is empty now.
markarnold 07-29-2009, 11:43 PM I've got one just like it. 185,000 miles. When I bought it, it too had been neglected and thanks two this site, I was able to get the bugs worked out. Thanks Diesel Place.
Good luck Fig, Don't give up!
DangerousDave 07-30-2009, 01:36 AM Hang in there, Fig; Once you've debugged it, the wife will love it. My wife drives it like a hot rod.
She loves the power and the turbo + exhaust sounds.
Many problems hopefully mean you got it for a good price.
"CHEEP Cheap" went the 'burb. $4,000 (US) off from Wholesale book value.
FSD/PMD, some R134, all liquids flushed, filters, Unibelt, and a few hoses did it for me. The TM and exhaust came much later.
figment 07-31-2009, 01:19 AM Thanx, again for the encouragement. I think my wife is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Just need to cure my 35 and 36 codes, I'm getting them intermittently for now, either the PMD is the cullprit or the optic harness. Changed the fuel cap to the proper one, and hasn't stall in 2 days, hope fully cured that.
