What do you do about the spare?

leave it there? will the truck wobble if you have 3 big and 1 stock ?

A - I pray, and pretend I'll never need it... (nevermind the roofing nail that is in my left rear tire at this moment:duh: )
B - When I do, I put the small tire on the front, and don't go far
C - I pray and pretend I'll never need it... (I think I'll get that nail dealt with tomorrow:duh: )

A full size spare would be the best, but I have never had one that was the same size (It was either narrower or smaller). It would not wobble per say, but it will pull on the front and with the G80 I don't think you should put a smaller tire on the rear.

Just Find A Old One Of What Ever Size You Are Running. The Dealer Where I Got My My Tires Just Through It In With My Revos 285. Just Tell Them To Put It On The Spare With Out A Balance.

I got a question, how big of a spare will fit in stock spare location? Anyone know?
Don't mean to take your thread, I've just been wondering this myself. I have 285's and a 245 spare.

Bought another stock wheel and tire. Fits perfect. No need to worry.

my 285 fits good, i dont know how big you can go, maybe a 35? i have to run a full size spare for going out on the offroad beach. also another thing is rotating 5 gives them alittle more life, if i stay off the pedal

You can physically fit a 315/70/17 tire under there. There is not much room to the pumpkin, but it does fit. I test fit the spare H2 under for ~2000 miles and never heard a squak from back there. I did not set the trailer on there though, nor put the normal pallet of bricks in the bed to see if it would bind. Even if it did hit the tire, it is just another bump-stop... Before I decide to run the H2 spare under there full-time, I will probably move the hitch back a bit or put on a draw-tite setup to get at least 1-2 inches of clearance.

Running without a spare is NOT AN OPTION in my opinion. I can change a flat in less than 10 minutes and be back on the road, rather than waiting for a towtruck that will not have a spare, but rather a hook and chain.

As for mounting an old tire... That is fine for most conditions. Pay for the balance though, cause you never know when you need to run down the highway, towing a trailer, etc. Some tires are pretty bad without some lead on the rim. As long as the spare is within an inch (closer the better) of the other tires, you should be fine for emergency purposes

I wish I had a fullsize spare but I cant afford another 315/75r16 Baja Claw and 16x8 Atlas right now

can't you just run a cheap 315 & rim to get you home?

atleast it will get you out of a jam, dont be one of those guys that get a flat, change it, go back out & get another flat in the middle of no where.

if your going to do that hope your close to home.

or have a buddy with 315 spare

When I'm staying close to home I don't carry one and hope one of my friends are handy to bring me one if needed. On longer trips(100 miles plus) I just throw one of my extrs 37's in the bed along woth my 4-way and bottle jack.

Throw in a plug kit and hit the road...max 5 min repair job...if I need anything more than that I just run my spare right to the tire shop...since if a plug can't fix it I'll be needing a new tire anyways.

I have a 285r16 spare tire hanging under the bed on the spare tire rack with 4" duel exhaust. I have plenty of room for a slightly bigger spare if ever needed.

my 315 fit in the stock location, i posted this a while back with pictures... do a search on it if interested. I have about 3/4" between the spare and the banks exhaust, I would not be without it......

I did this for a friend when he ran a stick through his sidewall when we where playing. Around 20 plugs seal it up and he drove on it like that for a long time.

I keep a can of tire slime handy.:shootself And pretend that my tires are bullet proof. :cookoo: I also keep my Nextel fully charged at all times and have the local hook on speed dial. :rotflmao:

315/70/17 with bfg on matching rim fits great, with 4" single mbrp exhaust. rotate through, and the expense pays for itself - 25% more life on set.

i have a custom bumper, so i think i may have extra room on the hitch end.

i think the big knobby tire under there looks great. it is very noticable compared to the stocker that was there.

if i ever flatted and did not have a spare (or have to change 2 to get a small spare in front), and the wife was with me.... i would get an earful. i had a truck without a spare once. although i didn't ever need it, it was not a cozy feeling.

You don't happen to have a picture do you. I don't think I could clear my Banks exhaust with a 315/70-17. Not certain though and I hate to pull one off just to hold it up and find out.

I took mine out to make room for two air tanks / Compressors and Horns. The 22.5 tires are too hard to change anyway.

here you go... 4 pics. i took my 13 year old mudding today, so the truck is a mess, but i think the truck had a good time.

pics include from the rear, to see how the spare looks from behind. second shows clearance from the exhaust hanger (maybe 3/4 inch), third shows clearance from bumper and hitch (aftermarket has tons of clearance), and 4th is a look at the pumpkin. the pumpkin has about 1/2 inch clearance, but moves with the suspension, so it *might* be rubbing it... not sure, but the spare is in there good after a lot of miles and some hard bumps.

A plug kit wont fix a blowout or seperation.
