The last time I pulled the 5th wheel(7000lbs) my tranny temp gauge got up to around 200 degrees. And the other day just running light it got up to 180 degrees. Both times the outside temp was in th 90's. And I also install a bug gaurd for the grill which could be cutting off air flow to tranny cooler.

What temp is starting to get to hot on the tranny and has anyone ever used a LUND grill gaurd on there trucks?
Thanks Chris-NM

Acceptable temps for an E4oD tranny would be less than 210 degrees. temps over 220 are unacceptable. If you went to Ford they would tell you that temps up to 275 degrees are ok. Thats why the service centers are bigger than the showroom. I would suggest putting an auxilliary transmission cooler in line with the factory coolers. We carry a 28,000 GVW cooler plate style with low pressure drop technology that can reduce temps up to 45 degrees.
