I found 2 quarts of slick 50 oil additive in my garage....would it be ok to add them both to my LB7 next oil change ? , just wondering because i believe its a teflon coating.....

Personally, I'm not a believer in oil additives. Some guys swear by slick 50 (a few of my customers that work on lawnmowers are convinced that the stuff is holy water in a black bottle  )
At anyrate, I would put it in a motor far less expensive to replace if it were my decision...Doesn't the owner's manual warn against putting additives in the oil?

If I remember right teflon melts and sticks at about 1400 degrees so it probaly won't do you much good. I've tried it different times in gassers and never saw it do any good for mileage improvement. Some of the teflon is bound to stick in the little holes in bearing/cylinder surfaces but its benifits would be hard to see.

From a lube engineer's perspective, re: Slick 50 into your engine... Very simply:
ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, NO, NO WAY, NADA!!!!!!!! STRONG LETTER TO FOLLOW!~!!!
Use nothing but major oil brand lubricant in your engine.... No engine oil additives.......
Dispose of the Slick 50 as you would your used oil or give it to someone you dearly dislike....

My cousin was a diesel mechanic for an iron ore dock. They tried Slick 50 in a few Cat engines. One bit the dust. They blamed it on the Slick 50. I do not know the details or mode of failure. But after that, my cousin George, agrees with George!!!!:beerchug:

Hi,

Dupont actually went to court, and sued the makers of Slick50. Teflon was not meant for automotive uses, and that is why Dupont tried to stop Slick50 from using teflon in it, but the lost. Anyway, you know how teflon breaks down on pots and pans? well just imagine it doing the same thing in the oil galleys and oil pump of an engine................ NOT GOOD!! Eventually you can kiss it goodbye!!

I wouldnt use it on a wheelbarrow, nevermind an engine. Just use good quality oil and filters ( NOT Fram, Puralator, Allied or Canadian Tire for us Canucks as they are made by Fram.... ) changed regularly and you will be ok!!
Just my 2 cents...

Will

I think about 20% of a quart of oil IS an additive package. Why would you want to add more?

Interesting to know, sounds like that's some bad stuff.

Weird. I have used it my 1994 350 since 50k miles. I have over 245k and no smoke, still get about 16 mpg in city and 18-20 mpg hwy.

I knew some dirt track racers in Corpus Christi when it first came out. They sweared by it. Said they could go two season before a rebuild, instead of 1/2 season as previous.

Haven't tried in the Dmax though.

It might be good for drilling and tapping. Later! Frank

I used it in a '93 Grand Cherokee. Burned at minimum 1 quart of oil every 1k. I'd not use.

 personally I add only a old western type of snake oil....that way I never have to change my oil.

Yeh that crap doesnt do anything, kinda like that Marvel Mistery oil at wal mart. Put it in oil, gas, or diesel. I just laugh

Ask yourself these questions.
How much do I stand to gain if the product works as advertised?
How much do I stand to lose if the product harms the engine?

I learned a very expensive lesson experimenting with gas additives in a boat engine.
I'm VERY weary of additives after my bad experience, whereas I used to think any additive was a miracle product.

OK, well let's change the focus just a little to Pro-Long. I knew of a top fuel drag racer that proved pro-long made the difference in whether his bottom end would stay together or not. He would soak his bearings in pro long before assembly and never had a failure, ran out of pro long and put in fresh bearings with regular oil and failed the bearings. This is a very extreme example, because this engine was torn down every 2 passes or so. Any thoughts on this snake oil?

I'm still a big believer in my patented Weasel Piss over anything else on the market.

I got the same kind of longevity and milage with my 1995 K1500 (350) ext/cab shorty and never ran any additive so I don't know how much can be claimed here? :confuzeld
