Fellow hooligans and scoundrels:
I've pretty much decided to put a Pioneer AVH-3100DVD head unit in my '05. It has the factory Bose system in it now. Anyone else been down this road? How do I retain my steering wheel controls?

No expert on it but looking at install manual there is a jack for hard wired remote on back. I would contact PAC and see if this module SWI-PS they sell will work with that system.

Yep, Metra/Axxess GMOS-04 into the main harness and PAC SWI-PS for steering wheel controls. I run this set-up, with exception of GMOS models since I didn't have Bose in this truck.
I recommend soldering the main harness on the bench and extending the wires so you can mount the GMOS behind the knee panel or glovebox. The SWI-PS has a long enough to do this already so you can run it into the 12 volt from the GMOS.

Thanks guys.
This GMOS thing - it's for exactly what? I have OnStar, but I don't subscribe to it and I never will. The "chime" - what chime? That one that annoys the you-know-what out of you when the door is open and the key in the ignition? That chime? What is RAP feature? If I rip the Bose speakers out, do I need this widget?

i would still spend for it for the rap
radio stays on until door is open and you will still need the bose harness unless you rip out the bose amp too

RAP affects several systems. I would keep it. You can play with the GMOS and turn off your chimes and OnStar. OnStar is a volume adjustment only, but if you don't use it; you won't notice. I like using proper adapters and harnesses so it looks clean and I know everything works.
There are other adapters out there.

there made by scosche there a little blue box in the stereo stuff around the wiring harness's
they dont work with the factory amped cars unless it has line level inputs like my saturn did though
the easiest ones though are the pac and periphal units they have a data bus wire on them so it simplifys the swc hook up. also have a switch to turn chimes on or off
mine are off

When you install a AVH-P4100DVD must you hook the parking brake and reverse light wires up?
