hello i'm still new here but was wondering anyones opinion
My truck is runnin warm so says the edge display numbers
My edge is a No Timing module
Im towing 14k My truck has stock exhaust (but None Cat exhaust of course)
ported intake horn and everything else is stock I washed out all the heat exchangers in the front end
Runnin the mileage tune 40 hp it starts pulling 1180egt in 5th locked and motor temp creeps up to 210
Runnin towing tune 60 hp it starts pulling 1140 egt in 5th locked and motor temps creep up to 206
truck runs great but these are not steep grades and Im not hammering on it at all cruisin at 8-13 psi boost 65mph
any thoughts is it the no timing tune I,m runnin or is it my exhaust even though It has no catylitic converter stock
thanx for any help

For pulling that weight, those numbers dont seem out of line. You will see a reduction in EGT with the larger diameter exhaust though, so its worth it, especially to guys like you towing heavy. Also, maybe look into a water/meth injection kit to keep EGT's in check.

towing 14k? your going to be running hot like that. an exhaust and intake will help a bit, but the temps are deffinitly going to creep up there

ok so I need to cool it down any thoughts here
I guess exhaust is a must also the bd exhaust manifold is the exhaust really gonnsa cool me down that much even though i dont have a cat already
what else besides injecting winshield washer fluid can I do and besides being raped for $1300 for a intercooler it seems stupid that Im running this hot when my gasser pulling the same load with a lot less horsepower so I stood on it all day long never got hot like this on me
yes I understand they are completely different trucks but my motor temp is creeping up hard just trying to maintain speed on a pretty flat run without pushing the truck hard

I run about the same as you ( 40 hp tune ) with that weight... No worries here

Im thinking of setting up my defuel at around 1120 egt when towing for now but there has got to be more efficent ways of keeping it cool while towing
also my fifth wheel is a high profile so lots of good wind drag
it just seems that the biggest problem I see the 1000+ egts for any length of time it heets up the motor at cruising speed is it really exchanging more heat internally or is it exchanging more heat from the interccoler to the radiator ...has anyone tried to seperate them ..any kits or is this not the answer at all
cause my motor really isnt working that hard like 50% to 60% load and of course the A/C running doesnt help but I payed for a monster of a truck I should be able to run the A/C and tow so whats the real anwser use one of those V2 coolers cause my trannies runnin fine 182 F oils all in check too I just think I would like to be able to keep my water temp under 210 at all times and it aint even hot yet so I 'd rather fix it now before the damage

That's a perfectly running engine responding to a load AND tune. What are your temps w/o the programmer on?
Tom
I dont know what to tell you but I tow a 16700 lb 5th wheel. ( I Here the weight police coming) and w/AC on and tow Hall my temp does not get greater than 210. Then the fan kicks in and the temp drops. Sometimes my tranny gets up to 200, but then only for a short time. I run whatever the posted speed limit is and have never had any heat problems. I have Hyprtech tune on stage two and a 4inch exhaust. Having said all that I dont think you are out of line with the temp your reading. But if you want to cool down some go with larger exhaust.

I know my numbers are not that high but I got this truck and it has less then 20k on it and I figure I'm gonna run the hell out of it so I'd just like to nip any potential problems in the butt. And I'm just bein annal but why not with a like new truck.

Wow less than 20k on a LB7?! Lucky find.

Our trucks will run that hot if they aren't kept in there sweet spot up a hill. By sweet spot I mean around 2200 rpm. Other wise I have noticed my truck egts climb and my truck temps also start to climb especially with that weight.

My 02, all stock with 238,000 miles runs great for the last year that I've owned her. Unloaded hot day 210 on the gauge, towing my 8000 lb tag a long temps will climb to 235 on gauge on grades or passing. I'm going to a 10,000 lb fifth wheel in a couple of weeks and I am a bit worried.
Are these gauges accurate?
Would it help if I install the 5th gear lockout?
Thanks
Mike
