: Should I trade

The local stealer wants me to trade in my '02 2500HD DA with a little less that 45k on it for an '05 3500 DA SLT dually for $19,000. I need a heavier TV for my trailer, which weighs 14400 dry and grosses at 18K. I Have been looking at the F350 because of the higher capacity. I have never loaded the 5'ver to it's gross weight and doubt I ever will.

Should I take the dealers offer or is it too high? Should I keep looking at the F-350 because of the weights involved, or will the 3500 handle it?

Thanks
Monte

I am going to post this in the new vehicle forum where I should have posted it to begin with. That's a newbie for you.

Is your 2500 a LS or LT? You might check Kelly Blue Books website at kbb.com and run the numbers on your truck. If this is their first offer then it is not their best. ;) GM has incentives back on the table as well. Free money is always good. :D

As for the F350, the extra weight capacity comes at a price, MPG's! They get the extra capacity by going with the higher ratio 4:10 rear end versus the 3:73. You stated you rarely, if ever tow at max GVWR on the 5ver, so why spend the additional money on diesel fuel for extra capacity you won't use. Make sense?

Plus, the GM is hands down a better power train combination. JJ :)

Mine is an LS. Both mine and the new one are 4X4's. Altough I rarely pull the 5'ver fully loaded, I know I get it up to around 17,000 lbs. whic is more that the ratings for the truck. However, I've pulled this trailer over Red Mountain Pass and Monarch Pass in Colorado and have pulled it about 10K with my 2500HD with no problems. I would think the 3500 should be fine with it. I am not a Ford fan. The ONLY reason I am looking at them is for the towing capacities.

I figured that if my 2500HD can handle the Alfa without any problems the 3500 would do it better. I know I get overloaded but the only time I had a problem was in Nashville when an idiot didn't get out of the closed lane (just had to get past me) and then had to slam on his brakes so he wouldn't hit the semi in front of me. I didn't think I was going to get it shut down in time and I decided that if he didn't care about his life, I wasn't going to dodge him and wreck my rig while he got off scott free. I think I was about 6 inches from him before I got shut down.

Never mind. I pulled the trigger at 17,500 and 2.9% financing.

Yeah, I almost had mine paid off and I go and do this, Oh, well, it's only money and if it will make pulling my trailer safer, I guess it'll be worth it. I'll have it paid off the same month I'll be eligible to retire.
