: Got some problems with Helo Maxx 8's
diesel_kid03 05-12-2005, 01:01 AM I have some 17inch helo maxx 8s on my truck with toyo open countrys AT's 285/70/17. What did you guys do to get the center cap to fit the rear? spacers? if so what size ? It doesn't look like it would take much. Also I cranked the t-bars and did some trimming but when i turn almost all the way either left or right it rubs on the back of the fenders. Its right at the bottem of the fender on the inside where it is metal how did you guys fix this?
Burnin Mad Max 05-12-2005, 02:47 AM 2" CT Spacer kit for the rears. Gives it a much cleaner look as well, should have come that way from the factory eqaul to the front wheels in stance. I'm lifted so I don't have the trimming issues up front sorry.
ErnMang2 05-12-2005, 11:50 AM I ordered Helo Guns and they shipped with the wrong center cap... about an inch thick. called and talked to the dealer I bought them from and found out that Helo shipped out a bunch with the wrong center caps and the new one's were on back order... finally got the new one's months later from them and they fit the rears just fine (the Censored chrome on the wheels is another story starting to pit, six month old)

Really? Do you drive in a salt-infested northern region? I'm concerned now. Mine aren't pitting (yet?) but they're gonna need some TLC and some Mothers chrome polish when I stop lying around drinking beer and watching baseball games. I thought twice about the Helo's before buying because I don't know much about them. Maybe I should have gone with the Welds after all.:(
ErnMang2 05-16-2005, 10:44 AM I am in Michigan, put them on in Dec. :badidea: I go throught the car wash 1-2 times a week, I am currently using the mothers chrome polish so they dont any worse it is very small pitting you have to bend down and look for it. ...but none the less I dont want it to get worse.

Burnin Mad Max 05-17-2005, 02:43 AM My one regret about the lift, I can't fit through any of the local drive through washes. She almost has to go through the entire winter without a wash.
CrazyMan 05-18-2005, 03:59 AM Guys im new here, I dont have a duramax, but I have a 2500HD with a 6.0, but after reading for few hours, Id give anything to have one now I believe. But anyways, I have some 17x9 Helo Maxx 8s on some 305/70/17 Goodyear MTR/s. My 1st set was polished, had them maybe 8 months, 3 of them cracked around the bolt holes. Sent them back and got the chrome ones for just 25 bucks extra per wheel. Noticed about 2 months ago, 2 of the wheels have chrome peeling off. Called Wheelpros and talked to them about it, and they told me they would send me new ones. So I went to the shop, he ordered them, but they only sent me 2!!. Said that since Ive already had a warranty on the 1st set, that Im not going to get 8 brand new wheels. But the 2 that wasnt peeling seem like they are pitting on the inside of the wheel. Basically this wheels are cheap, the wheel isnt fully chromed, if it was, everything would be chrome. I dont know how they chrome just the part thats chrome and nothing else. Next time you take your wheels off, look at the back of the hub, nasty fellas, nasty.
Oh yeah, I never had any problem with my center caps, except for the chrome coming off of them too.
Burnin Mad Max 05-20-2005, 01:35 AM I wish I would have had this kind of info before buying. Hell I didn't even know about this website till shortly after. I'm gonna go with Welds next time, had my share of Center Lines and Helo crap. Oh and my center caps look horrible. Two of them are peelling profusely. The more time I spend cleaning them I notice how they really seem to be falling to sh**!!! Shoulda known!!!
Mark_my_word 05-20-2005, 06:10 PM Glad I saw this. I was thinking about getting the Helo Guns. Was also thinking about the Centerlines. I guess I will be going with the Welds. I guess you get what you pay for. Thanks.
CrazyMan 05-23-2005, 05:31 PM Don't spray anything on those wheels when you wash them. Just use soap and water, and if you want them to shine, use windex is there chrome. That chrome wheel cleaner is what makes the center caps turn to ****.
Burnin Mad Max 05-24-2005, 01:05 AM Gotta say MMW, I would not recomend them.
stepuptata 05-24-2005, 11:25 AM I'm glad I spend the extra cash and bought Weld Velocty 8's XT. I was thinking of the cheep rought with the Helomaxx's, but changed my mind. You get what you pay for guys.;)
stepuptata 05-24-2005, 11:30 AM kid03, I have the same problem with my 325-60-18. I plan on trimming out the metal and them folding back the inner plastic lining to cover hide it. Hopefully it will work.
CrazyMan 05-24-2005, 03:37 PM Yeah if I ever get a lift, Im getting Welds for sure. I don't care if they cost over 700 bucks a wheel. THey come with a 5 year chrome finish on them, and you can spray whatever you want on them.
stepuptata 05-25-2005, 07:31 AM I got a smokin' deal on my welds through www.discounttire.com (http://www.discounttire.com). I paid $2,963.00 (18x10 Velocty XT) with Grappler 325-60-18 and lugs shipped to my door ready to mount. It was a no brainer to go with the Welds after that deal.. I paid :ro) $515 per wheel (Cost,$525/wheel) and $:ro) 195 per tire. Can't beat that price any were. I looked for 6 months.:ro)
CrazyMan 05-25-2005, 12:59 PM I wish I would have went with those 33x13x18s when I put wheels on my truck. I was just to afraid they wouldnt fit. My MTR/s are actually 34" tall, so a 33" would fit have fit better. IF your rubbing the back of the fender, take a rubber mallet and beat the fender out of the way.
