Anybody know the average price to replace head gaskets? Got a quote today @ $5600 and 6500 and the $5600 [canadian] one was w/arp studs and egr delete. Know it's the labour that's killing me. Was gonna do it myself but after reading through forums not so sure

I got mine done 1 1/2 years ago under warranty, and I only paid $100. The bill they sent to GM was just under $6000.

Unfortunately it's off warranty and by the sounds of it that's about right

Just so you know that included:
Replace all engine fluids
Machine one head
Replace one head
Parts (i.e. head gaskets , seals, ect)
Labor

No, a brand new engine is gonna run one upwards of 12k.

GM book time is 36 hours for the head gasket replacement. That should give you a good idea on what labor is gonna cost. In addition parts & machine work are going to be around 1800 dollars.

Doing it yourself is not a tough job. Its just labor intensive. I did my head gaskets in a gravel driveway with a Canadian Tire Socket Set, a fuel line disconnect tool, a tourque wrench, & some decent quality feeler guages.

Yeah, it's a lot. But that's what it costs. And no, you can't buy a new Duramax for 6k. Just for giggles I called my local dealer to see what it would cost to put an LBZ in my truck, because I had heard about all the overheating issues with the LLY. I've never had any issues with my LLY. I was just wondering. They told me I was looking at around 20k installed:eek:. Now THAT'S insane.
