I am looking at swapping my 4500 5 speed for a 6 speed that GM uses now. The question is will it fit right in or require some mods. How bout the transfer case ?
Any thoughts

i seriously doubt it will fit. just to many different parts: input shaft, flywheel, bell housing . . . .

Well it will physicaly bolt up, and the tailshaft is still the 32 spline with round 6 bolt pattern, so your t case should bolt right up. It still has the good ols 90* V8 bellhousing pattern. So, use your origional flywheel and origional style pressure plate, and use a Duramax clutch disc. As for the hydro clutch stup, ive never looked at it, but it shouldnt be to hard. You may have to move the crossmmber back or ahead, but thats easy enough on those trucks. You will of course need to make driveshafts. I can't really see it being to difficult, just a bit time comsuming.

No, the 5600 is the new venture. The 6 speed in the chev is the ZF 6 speed, not 100% sure of model. Last time i checked they were $2800 canadian.
