Got my first diesel! I understand Overdrive and its use, but I am not sure what the "Tow/Haul" does and when I should use it. I will be pulling a 28" 5th wheel. In times past, I had a Surburban with OD and I took it out when towing. Any thoughts?

tow/haul firms up shifts and raises shift points. I dont personally use the tow haul mode as my trailer isnt that heavy... (8000) if you see your ally hunting, try it... the next step is to lock out O/D but I doubt youll ever need to do it.

Tow/Haul when engaged and when comming downgrade will cause transmission to downshift when brake is appliedand hold you in the lower gear. Fairly nice feature. Overdrive lockout also nice when going downgrade on road with curves. Helps keep vehicle speed down so you are not on the brakes all the time. Find a hill somewhere and try both out.

Agreed. I love the tow/haul mode when pulling the car and trailer, especially in traffic when butt-heads cut in front of you. With this downshifting feature it brings you to a crawl quickly and safely.. more importantly, in control!

You sure picked the right truck for your first diesel! I started with an F250 PSD. The DMAX is a world of difference.

Tow/Haul also helps keep the torque converter locked up and helps with engine breaking.

useing tow/haul will prolong the life of your transmission they put that feature in so that when you are towing or haulling a heavy load the transmission isn't going in and out of overdrive and lock up so you don't build as much heat in the trans causing you to overheat the trans or engine
