Why is the k&n filters so bad? Some people say they are great in there diesels trucks and some don't like them. What causes them to trash a motor? What is the best filter and can I find one to fit the new air intake looks like a 4inch pipe.

Stock works just fine. K N filters let in way to much dirt. They really don't give ya that much power. Not even enough worth buying one. Unless you get a custom tune that will maximize the use of that new intake your just wasting money. With more air and stock fuel flow, you don't gain much.
