: Oh No!!!!
gkoro 07-20-2009, 04:34 PM So i'm on my way back from the allison dealer with a new filter, and 4 gals of transynd. I'm going through the hills by my house, and i see the tranny temp get up to 200. (never does) I then put it in tow/haul to go down the hill, and the check engine light comes on. i yell, take it out of tow haul, and roll to the stoplight at the bottom, 1/2 mile from my house. the light turns green, and i give it a little throttle, and it sounded/felt like it was bogged down. I realize its stuck in 3rd gear. I decide to swing into advanced auto parts to get the codes read. I pull into the driveway, go to put it in reverse, I hear a big "clunk" and the shifter on R starts blinking, and i have no reverse. I put it in drive because i'm in the middle of the parking lot, hear another "clunk" and pull into a spot, tranny temp is around 210...I leave it running, guy checks the codes, I get P0700 tranny control malufunction, and P0777, pressure control solonoid. I let it idle 15 min to see if the temp would come down, nothing. I put it in neutral, roll backwards. Go to put it in drive to slowely drive it 1/2 mile home, and now 1 2 3 and D are all blinking and i have nothing. I was able to push it back into a spot, and got under the truck and noticed it was covered in black fluid, some spots dripping- from the back of the tranny pan to about the other side of the t-case. I shut it off, called my buddy to pick me up and drive me home. waited 20 min for that, and when he came i started it, and shifted through the gears and it shifted fine, but the SES light is still on, and its still sitting there. So here i am, first thing i did when i got home was open a beer and come to this site. any ideas? I'm gonna have to towed somewhere tomarrow. My usual dealership is about 20 miles away though. SH!T!
gkoro 07-20-2009, 04:40 PM just looked them up on here....
P0700- Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL Illumination
P0777-Clutch Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid 2 - Stuck On
truck has 103,000, and i've never used a programmer.. bought it with 50,000, and don't know what the previous owner did with it. thanks guys.
gkoro 07-20-2009, 06:35 PM no one????
sagebrush assas 07-20-2009, 06:41 PM fluid level good?
gkoro 07-20-2009, 06:43 PM i've done some research on here about both codes, and i'm guessing maybe burned clutches, limp mode, or some dirt in the solonoid valve. What worries me is the fluid. I'm waiting for it to cool down them i'm gonna go see if i can drive it about a mile home. think thats a good idea? then call around tomarrow for dealerships.....
gkoro 07-20-2009, 06:44 PM fluid level on the dipstick is reading just fine
sagebrush assas 07-20-2009, 06:51 PM Burnt smell? If not then maybe just a bad solenoid or trash in it...Have you limped it before?
gkoro 07-20-2009, 07:11 PM i'm not sure...it smells like old motor oil...but i don't know the difference bettwen ATf and motor oil...I have never limped it before, and I have never had a tuner hooked up to it, so i'm really scratching my head why theres is fluid all underneith my truck and it wont shift.
7902sc 07-20-2009, 07:29 PM Trans oil should be red in color. If it looks like motor oil, you waited to long to change it. Sounds like it's burned up and in need of an overhaul? Sorry!!
gkoro 07-20-2009, 07:48 PM it was changed at 48,000....I now have 103,000 and I was on my way back with transynd to change it

Just me but I service my trucks more than most people, Trans every 25,000 miles!!
gkoro 07-20-2009, 09:02 PM holy!! well i don't do any heavy towing or any upgrades, so its just running around like my grandfather driving it. note: I just went to get it and drive it home. it was like a mile and a half. SES light was still on, but i was shifting it manually, 1-3, kept it in 3rd. truck shifted fine. The last few hundred feet, it put it in D, and it was like nothing ever happened to it??

Try flushing all that nasty fluid out, change both filters. I would put in reg Dex3, untill you know if the trans is alright!!! Good Luck. By the way I'm a auto tech by trade (35years) I see all the time what lack of maintenance does. Thats why I over maintain my stuff. My 79 Chev 1 ton has over 400,000 miles and I would go anywhere in it!!
gkoro 07-20-2009, 09:34 PM hahaha nice!! Yah after work tomarrow i'm gonna get some dex 3, and change it out...I don't think my allison dealer has any internal filters in stock..oh well. I'm also gonna order a new NSBU switch and see if that works too...maybe the leaking fluid got into the connections.. why would it be leaking fluid though??
superpro56 07-20-2009, 09:43 PM Could it be an NBSU switch? Try searching that, its a common problem to switches that may have gotten moisture in them, and the blinking dash seems to be in line with that. Just something else to look at.

You said it got hot, trans oil expands when it gets hot? It might have gone out the vent. When you change oil in it clean it off real good, refill it, don't overfill it, drive it and see what happens. Good Luck.
gkoro 07-20-2009, 09:49 PM thanks for all your help...
7902sc 07-20-2009, 09:52 PM thanks for all your help...
Your welcome. Hope it turns out well for you.
gkoro 07-20-2009, 10:04 PM one more thing...how do you suggest cleaning all of that fluid off?? spray some simple green on, let it soak, and hose it off?
