: Tire database
BlueOx03 05-11-2005, 12:18 PM How about we make a Tire database to have as a reference of tires that fit good based on size, load range, brand, price, and comments.

275/65 R18 Wrangler AT/S E 160 Feel spongy when braking hard
BullydogPowered 05-11-2005, 12:35 PM doesnt sound like a bad idea
285/75/16 BGF A/T D 177.00 slightly too wide for stock rim, little roll if you go around a turn too fast, good wear as long as rotated, no road noise, no cutting or trimming to make them fit, dont make any noise when spinning ):h
RyanU 05-11-2005, 12:44 PM 325/60/18 Pro Comp X-Terrains -- E -- depends on where you find em. you can usually get a buy 3 get 1 free deal and they are about $300 a piece --- seems like they wear really good, they handle great, not a whole lot of road noise. but to make em fit without a lift you need to space your front bumper and trim it, pull back the inner fender with zip ties, crank your t-bars about 4 turns and put then on a wheel with a 6.25" backspacing
noreaster 05-11-2005, 09:52 PM 285/75/16-D Nitto terra grappler AT-$112 good traction, alittle noise
265/75/16-D Mickey Thompson MTX - pretty good traction, got 48k out of them & can find online for around $135
RanaExcavating 05-13-2005, 12:40 PM 285/75/16-D Nitto terra grappler AT-$112 good traction, alittle noise
Noreaster:
Where did you purchase them for 112.00? I am in the market for some new rubber and have had my eye on them.
Thanks
ntnbolt1 05-13-2005, 04:56 PM 285/75/16 Firestone Destination A/T's 15,000 on them still look almost new and their very quiet.... This is suppose to be the first tire (redesigned) after the Ford Excursion debacle. $160.00 ea.
SuperTuscan 05-15-2005, 05:43 PM 265/75/16 Michelin LTX A/T on Alcoa Classic rims. Very quiet and they wear like iron. Good winter traction and summer handling. I would imagine this is more of a road cruiser than a work or towing tire.
duramaxedout 05-16-2005, 03:49 PM Pro-Comp AT's 33/12.50/17's on H2 Rims w/ 6 T-Bar turns and minimal trimming on the front air dam. Price was cheap, buy 3 get one free...around $700 for 17's...not bad! Pro-Comp puts a 50k mileage warranty on them, but they pro-rate -:t!!
Road noise is fair, performs great in the snow, doesn't clean out in the mudd for Censored and wearing out faster than a ho at the Bunny Ranch!
ratlover 05-16-2005, 05:05 PM dunlop radial rover rt's
265 75 r 16
lower than factory load range though.
Dont know how they would wear for a normal person???
Great traction in the snow and they ride and handle well dry/wet
about a 110$ or so from tire rack .com
WAskier 05-16-2005, 11:57 PM Yokohama Geolander AT+ II 285/75-R16 (http://www.yokohamatire.com/TireIntro.asp?TireID=11)
Wrapped around Weld 16X8" sidewinders
Have not touched the torsion bars did trim the front bumper to fit the tires.
They do rub on the inner fender liner at full lock and I had to remove my front mud flaps.
They have much much more traction than the stock tires, great in the wet and in the snow and ice. My tires are siped though, the guy at discount tires did it for free for me. I didn't ask for it they were just siped when I went ot pick them up.
Dry pavement I can barely make them chirp from a stop with the power pup on level one.
They seem to be wearing ok, I'm not exactly light on the go pedal and I rotate them every 6K. They've been on the truck for almost 12,000 miles now and there's just a little bit left of the first step out of three on the center tread blocks. The truck's a daily driver and hardly has anything in the bed or behind it.
Brerrabbit 05-19-2005, 11:58 AM 2001 2500 hd4x4-84k miles. Presently have Firestone Steeltex Radial A/T, E rating with 30k, although there is plently of tread left, there is no grip on these tires in rain, sleet, snow, mud, or wet grass..to the point of dangerous. Am getting rid of these death traps and going back to Michelin LTX M/S "E" rating-the best that I have had. Less mileage but at lest will grip the road.
luvthesmellofdiesel 05-19-2005, 05:34 PM Bought a set of Nitto Terra Grappler LT265/75R16E tires last year. And now 21K miles later, they are about whipped. I have not done any drag racing, sled pulling, burnouts, etc. The tread loss is consistent across each tire, and I kept them rotated, but they just plain wore out, and from fairly normal driving, btw the same driving which wore out the original Bridgestone skateboard tires in 41K miles, nearly twice as long.
I am waiting on the BFG TA KO LT265/75R16E tires which are supposed to be out sometime in the next 3 mos if I can make it that far on my nearly bald Nitto's and they aren't priced like Michelin's.

Fingers 05-19-2005, 05:46 PM 365/65-16s Nittos on 16x10 Welds. Lots of cutting n such to fit, but no crank. For such a wide tire it rides woderfully. 3500 lb capacity is a bonus on the rear. Work very well off road.
minisub 05-20-2005, 06:39 PM 33 12.5 x 15 BFG MTs on last truck. Loud as could be and squirelly in the rain without siping but lasted 50 K miles and were only 2/3 worn when I junked the truck. Last 2 sets have been 265 75 16 BFG AT KOs. Got 60 K out of the first set (okay the last 10K was interesting in the rain, but...), have 15 K on the second and they look brand new. Perfect all-around tire for me with good balance of wear, traction and noise. Probably won't ever buy a different tire....
FASTOYS 05-21-2005, 01:19 AM I tried the 265/75/16 D Dunlop Rover at and it was WAY squirly!!! So then they put me back into a Dunlop Rover 245/75/16 E and it too was squirrly!! So we called Dunlop and they said that tire wont work on my kind of truck! Too much tread squirm. WTF???
Oh well, so then i bought a set of 265/75/16 E Firestone steeltex at and they seem to work great. They wear REAL good, are quiet and not to expensive! Not good at all on wet pavement or wet grass!! Do hook up hard in 4wd with lots of boost though. hehehe
gunner 6165 05-21-2005, 02:07 AM My pickup has had Dunlop Rover RT since loosing the General Ameriway 550's which weren't good for anything.
Average about 35k before have to rebalance, usually worn by 45k, get noisier as tread wears. Excellent traction dry and in any snow except hard packed, very difficult to hydroplane, good mud traction. On my 3rd set. Even with D load range, no issues with towing my 5,000 lb trailer.
My Suburban has Kuhmo Road Venture AT KL-41. So far so good. Only have 6,000 miles on this set. Quieter than RT's, good dry, no mud or snow yet, sane driving will not cause hydroplaning.
Tire size for both 265/75/16
packfan 05-28-2005, 11:09 PM My brother's 2002 2500 HD CC D/A 4x4 SB. 106,000 miles 265's Dunlop Rover RVXT's, Nice tread pattern, 60,000 mile warranty $117 each. Very quiet.
My 2002 2500 HD CC D/A 4x4 SB. 53,500 miles. 265's Michelin LTX M/S Extremely quiet, boring looks (tread pattern). $777 installed, with Road Hazard.
craSSh 06-01-2005, 09:19 PM 285/75/16 D Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's (not the Revo II's) on stock wheel. I've got 21k miles and they show little wear. I try to rotate every 5-6000 miles. Smooth riding and no noise on pavement. Very good wet traction as well as light off roading. I reccommend these, but I've read that some people aren't getting good tire life. Supposedly the Revo II's last longer. If I don't go with these again I'm leaning toward the Toyo Open Country MT's.
towin43 06-02-2005, 12:09 PM 265/75/16 D BFG AT KO's on stock rims
- Fit rims nicely and require no trimming
- Give the truck a much more beefy look
- Much softer ride than stockers, even at max inflation (65 lbs.)
- Ever so slightly more road noise
- You'll feel some slight sidewall deflection in tight turns
- Great compromise of on-road/off-road tire
- Great looking tire
- Can require a lot of weight to balance
Overall rating: :ro)
MaxFarmer 06-05-2005, 01:36 AM 285/75/16 Firestone Destination A/T
About 35K miles, some hard miles, most on gravel
$130/tire (Special when first released to get people to buy Firestone again)
Quieter than 285/75/16 BFG M/T's and better traction.
Awesome in mud and snow, basically they dig and clean (throw gravel pretty bad too)
Planning on buying again if my trial of the new Cooper mud tires isnt well...
converted6.6 06-05-2005, 08:25 PM Saw a couple of guys at the track on friday night running 325/50R20's , Foose wheels. SWEET!!!!!!!!!! One of the trucks was a 2005 Chevy 2500 C/C S/B ,6 inch Pro Comp lift. The othr was a Harley Davidson F350 Powerstroke. Foose wheels also.
ct0218 06-05-2005, 11:08 PM I put on Bridgestone Dueler AT's when the OEM Goodyears wore out at 48K. Haven't put a lot of miles on these but they balanced perfect, ride good, appear to be wearing good, and have excellent now traction. Quiet too. Stock 215 size.
cdhd2001 06-14-2005, 04:38 PM Any comments of commercial tires?
Rockin 07-05-2005, 10:38 AM 235/85R16 Federal on trailer. 9500# on tandem axel's. (13500# total trailer) 3 blowouts (two tread separations one unknown) this year. 15000 miles last year. One blowout this spring on a tire with <3000 miles.
JMGAZ 07-14-2005, 10:46 PM Just took delivery of my '05 2500HD 2WD D/A CC SB. Love it! Gotta make a 4K mile road trip right away and plan on going to 285/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler (AT-S I think). It's their new tire with Silent Armor, what ever that means.
I just put them on my '03 Yukon and really liked them. 10 ply D rating and they look good too.
I just need to pick out wheels.
Grey Ghost 07-15-2005, 01:23 AM Just put on my second set since I had the truck:
235/85R16 BFG MTs, Load Range E. $190.00 ea. drive-out price ($1145.00 total).
EXCELLENT in mud.
Low to moderate noise. (At least there was before the new sound system;) )
Rears do not rub with heavy loads.
40,000 miles on first set with no flats, blowouts, or peeling. (I drive a lot of gravel roads also.)
I give them :thumb: :thumb: .
Replaced the OEM Firestones at 20,000 miles, they were at least 50% worn, with:
255/85/16 TrXus MT's, LR D.
Quieter than most mud tires, but could never get them balanced. Lasted 12,000 miles, and they were shot. And I'm not a lead foot. My truck is completely stock. Very disappointed. Would not buy again. A friend of mine has the same tire in a 285/75 and he gets 25-30,000 miles from a set. Running a Juice module. The only good thing is they are dirt cheap as we live about 45 miles from Interco's headquaters in Rayne, LA. Paid $450 for the set, including mount and balance. Replaced the TrXus with:
265/75/16 Cooper Discoverer ST's, LR E.
Much better tire. Better ride as expected, good traction (more then most AT's, less then a true MT). No problems in the rain. Paid a little more for them than I wanted to as the only local dealer is notoriously expensive. Wanted 255/85's, but they were on backorder 2 months and I couldn't wait as the TrXus were practically bald.
dh515 07-22-2005, 08:52 PM Replaced the stock Bridgestone 245/75/16E's at 419 miles with Michelin LTX M/S 265/75/16E's on the stock wheels. The Bridgestones felt like they were square and rode like dog doo. Night and day difference between those and the Michelins. Paid $638 out the door at America's Tires with road hazard and replacement guarantee. They gave me $160 trade in on the Bridgestones and there was an additional $50 off for opening a charge account with them. Felt this was a pretty good deal after checking around my area.
Utahski 07-30-2005, 10:09 PM The old truck went through several sets of tires...it's a '94 - 4WD with no limited slip and 214K miles. The tires I can remember are:
Bridgestone something-duelers...ok, but not memorable. Early demise when one lost the sidewall to a long 3/8" bolt.
Pirelli Scorpion - good on packed snow, fantastic handling on pavement, only lasted maybe 30K miles.
Michelin LTX-M/S - good handling on pavement, quiet, good off road plonking over dirt and sagebrush. Not real good in mud. Terrible, horrible, on packed snow and ice...just scary. Not good on any kind of snow, even just a light dusting, and not confident-inspiring on after-blizzard slushy highways either. Loss of traction from a stop on rain slicked roads. Again, this is without a limited slip. But they last...the first set went 70K miles on a 3/4ton shortbed. The second set is still on the truck.
Bridgestone Winter Dueler (truck version of Blizzak) - Very surefooted and confidence-inspiring on packed snow and ice. Slushy or snow-covered highways are nothing. Just an awesome winter tire...better in 2WD than the LTX in 4WD. I can get up the driveway in 2WD through 8-10" of fresh snow where the LTX has a tough time in 4WD. These only go on during the winter. As a year-round tire they probably wouldn't last too long.
Living in the mountains, winter performance is real important. The '04 Dmax is close to getting new tires. They'll be either Bridgestone Revo, or the new Goodyear Silent Armor which is claimed to be very good on snow and still have good highway life.
BIG MACZ 08-01-2005, 03:08 PM Fireston Transforce AT 265/75/16E This is the Steeltex replacement.
A bit more aggresive tread than the steeltex. The larger sidewall (31.9) softened up the ride a little bit. Dry and wet cornering seem to be near identical to Bridgestone Duravis 245/75/16E that I pulled off. One note is that this tire has a treadwear rating of 550 so I will expect a good life out of them, the drawback to that is it is a hard tread compound and with the Edge on 3 it will leave a mile of rubber if I stomp it. Ok, a bit of an exageration but they do turn over pretty good when the turbo spools up.
Looks wise this is what the truck should have looked like when I picked it up from the dealer, a bit PO's that I had to spend $500.00 just to get the look I want. Sidewalls slightly pinched in but still looks good and factory as if they belong there. They accomplished exactly what I wanted, filled out the wheelwell better and lowered my cruising RPMs on the highway just a bit.
So far very happy with them.

I got 60,000 out of my Steeltex Tires on the '00 GMC gasser. Replaced them with the Transforce, and then bought the LLY with Generals. Think I'll replace them too. BTW, why would anyone want to drive in mud, snow, ice, wet grass, etc.? A little gravel in the campsite is adequate for my 'off-road' usage.

HDFLSTS 08-17-2005, 10:46 AM TOYO OPEN COUNTRY A/T LT305/55R20 ON A MKW 20X9.5 Wheel w/5.5 bs.I had to change the torsion keyes & trim the lower valance to fit.No rubbing and good ride. The tire are rated @ 3,195 lb each so they can carry th load.A friend got 60,000 miles out of a set , but they are close to $300 a tire.
srode 08-18-2005, 07:42 AM 265-E Bridgestone REVOs - $699 plus sales tax at the local
Firestone dealer with all the free nation wide lifetime
balance/rotation/road hazard warranty,
mount/balance/disposal fee etc. First price offered was
over $1000 (INSANE!!!), and they came down to match Costco
when I told them what I could get them there for and they
had them instock. I was surprised this was the best price I
could do, but checked the online shops and with shipping and
paying someone to install them it, this was the best price I
found anywhere.
Look MUCH better than the originals, and stick
like glue in the rain! Better ride and quiet too. Fuel
economy dropped about a half MPG on the highway even after
adjusting by 0.38% for the increased tire size and slowing
down a couple MPH to make sure I am driving the same speed
as before since the spedo is off by 2.5MPH at 65. Don't
know what they did to in town economy, it's used on the
highway mostly. Don't know about towing yet either, haven't
done any yet. They did feel just a little bit squirrely
when they were brand new, but now feel planted after a
couple hundred miles (Probably a little tread squirm like
others have mentioned).
LTChip 08-18-2005, 09:48 AM 1 - America's Tire Dominator 285/75/16 on stock rims D rating cost about 105 a piece lasted 45K miles. Performed very well. Impressed for an economy tire. Wouldn't put 285s on a stock rim now that I know better but had no problems.
2 - Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor - 285/75/16 on 16x8 AR Mojave Teflon wheels. D rating, cost about $175 per. Have not had them on the truck yet.
Note that I had my first set of Dominators siped and they fell apart due to the siping inside 4 months of use. Americas' Tire replaced all 4.
Italian Stallion 09-26-2005, 09:21 AM So what is the biggest...or...best tire size for the "05" dually.. I currently have the 215/85 r 16's.At 65 m.p.h. I am at 2000 r.p.m.I need a taller tire but am not sure what will fit without modifying to much. I wonder also if I could go any wider without changing the wheels.I was thinking the 235/85/R16 E or hopefully a 235/75/ R16 E. I pull a 10,000 lb. toyhauler on the weekends.
C.A.P 09-26-2005, 10:19 AM I had BFG all terain and thought they wore out to fast 285x75r16 I was alittle hard on them (lead foot) they had about 3/16 inch tred at 27,000 (they do wear in the center ) I am running Cooper Discoverer st same size and have about 7000 on them they to are wearing faster than I would like ...........I realy have to stop hot roding!
duramaxedout 10-05-2005, 12:52 PM Well just pulled the Pro-Comp AT's (33x12.50x17) off after 41K of abuse including heavy towing and a few passed down the quartermile. I would say they held up very well but had some unusual wearing even after many rotations. They are great in the snow and rain but do not clean out well in the mud. They did pro-rate them as they have a 50K warranty so I got about $150 back. The new set is the Pro-Comp MT's as I couldn't pass up the price, so far I have noticed obvious things like noise increase and it seems to follow the road ruts more. I will add more details as I put more mileage on them.
NITRO1977 10-08-2005, 08:36 PM Anyone Out There Running H2's?
duramaxedout 10-12-2005, 03:09 PM Yep nitro1977 it's what my 33x12.50's rotate around on. Hard to tell in the Avitar pic but that is what's on mine.
phazar 10-25-2005, 12:10 AM goodyear silent armour, crap with a capital c, 3 out of 4 were out of round, bfg at awsome.
roswell 10-25-2005, 08:09 PM Dueller AT Revo's in the 285/75/16 flavor, d rated. Silent, soft, and still look brand new. Like 'em so much I put some on the wife's explorer. Can't even tell when it's wet on the road.

Very happy with the snow traction! Handling acceleration and ride seem to be unaffected by the different than stock size. They are a little noisy on pavement but very tolerable.

Quiet, tough, and dig like a prisoner.... Gobbs of sipping, phenomenal in the snow, ice and suburb in the mud. Cheap as hell, $150 a piece mounted and balanced and shipped to my door... I've heard AT's that make more noise than these! Soft tread-hard acceleration leaves black trails on road.:(
sledog 12-27-2005, 02:37 AM 295-75-16 BFG AT K.O. on factory rims. 2005 2500HD CC SWB 4X4. Had to trim the front spoiler a bit and 3-4 turns for torsions, noting on rear. Used thin mudflaps on the front for clearance. Tie straped inner fender well on the rears (would rub slightly on full lock up turning). Tires were used when put on truck 20% worn but had no issues.

blue04 02-19-2006, 12:46 AM 315-70-17 BFG ATs great 34" tire around the 250 range. Any one running 37-12.5-17s on a 6"ift?
pmikey 02-24-2006, 06:58 PM Replaced stock tires with BFG 285/75/16 mounted on stock rims. Looked great but drove like crap. Rode like a bucking bronco. I kept them on for about 4K miles and sold them. I replace the BFG's with Michelin 265/75/16E MS. Much smoother tire, more controlled ride.Great all around traction. Last set I had of Michelins last 92K on a 2500 Express van loaded with carpenter tools. 285 BFG's definately looked better though.
Tex735 02-27-2006, 10:00 PM Has anyone tried the new(ish) Firestone Destination M/T's? I am looking to get a set of 285/75/r16's to replace my Nitto Tera Graplers. The Nitto's have lasted a good 40K, but they do get louder as they wear. The Firestone's are supposedly the number 1 rated M/T according to user reviews at TireRack.com.

I think I am going to get the YH this weekend. I think I really like the look of the tire.. My wife has a set of 265's on her tahoe and it looks great...
Antnee77 03-09-2006, 07:19 PM About 6 weeks ago I put on a set of Pro Comp All Terrains in 265/75-R16 Load Range E. They ride better than stock, are awesome in the snow and mud, and look great. Definitely worth it!
Tex735 03-12-2006, 09:18 AM Just put on the Firestone Destination M/T's this weekend. 285/75-R16 Load Range D, stock wheels, $985 out the door. I have to say that I think these are the best looking tires I have seen!!! They are super aggressive and they grip like a gorilla!! Not too loud for an M/T. Running 40 lbs up front and 35 lbs in the back. Tread is running flat on the road. The new carbon compound is supposed to give good tread life. We'll see. Awesome tire so far!
zr2yz125 03-12-2006, 10:33 AM bfg at 285 -70- 17 D on h2's. $790 out the door. trimmed valance, and took a heat gun to inner fender. no cranking and no rubbing. only had them 2 mos, and I'd give them a 10!
some places will meet/beat tire racks price, just ask!
rdean 03-12-2006, 01:00 PM 265/75/16 Cooper Discoverer on the truck when purchased. Hate the ride but have to wear them out before replacing.
lakingslayer 03-18-2006, 04:17 PM I just put LT265/75R-16/E1 Michelin LTX M/S Tires wrapped around MB Gunner 8 16X8 8-165.1 -6GBM wheels. Got almost 40K out of the OEM Bridgestone 245's. I got the whole package including tire certificates from Discount Tire for just over $1400.00.
GMCHD 03-22-2006, 03:39 PM I have nitto terra grappler in 295/75 R16. I have about 20k on them and they are just about shot. I dont really have much of a choice in this size, so I might have to step up to a 315. I am thinking of getting the geolander II. Anyone have any suggestions. I have only had these tires 11 months. They are wearing evenly, just fast.:( :confuzeld
RoguetotheMAX 03-24-2006, 01:36 PM Just put on a set of BFG AT KO's 285/75 16's "E" ($181.00/tire) on stock rims. Cranked the torsion bars up four turns. Front tires will rub in reverse on uneven terrain. Tires run flat with 40 psi in rear anf 55psi on the front. Truck runs smother that it did with the duravis tires from the factory. I was also surprised at how quit they run. I'll have to see how they wear.
DMAX2134 04-07-2006, 02:03 PM I just got cooper ATR 315 70 17 for H2 wheels, needed something more highway and the coopers are good. I havnt driven it yet because of license suspension. But I got them for about $171 a tire and they have a 50,000 mile warranty on them.
benz_020 04-13-2006, 03:49 AM off the top of my head.....stats
Michelin
255/70R 22.5
Load E
much! better ride than others....
definatly better ride than cheap brands
eventhough twice as much tread
deeptread great for winter, and smooth riding. (compared)
think i am running at 50 somethin psi right now.
300,000 mile (Three Hundred Thousand) rating/warranty
cost for set of 6 = $2,100
ironman24 04-18-2006, 06:33 PM 265's Load E Goodyear Wrangler with that silent armour crap. Put them on the truck when I got sick of looking at the stock 245's at 4,000 miles. Now i have 25,000 on the truck, They ride ok, but the wear isnt that great on them. I Have had BF AT's on my other trucks and i think i liked them better for wear and ride comfort. I think ill be going back to BF's when these are done. Maybe also moving up to 285's :D
Matt C 04-20-2006, 06:27 PM LT 285 75 16 BFG AT's Love them so far only have 2,000 miles on them so far, but put them on in time to try them in snow. Didn't like the price but they are worth it.
jeffster 04-21-2006, 07:43 PM I have 265/75/16 Wild Country TXRs. I had them on my Silverado 1500 before and had 20k miles on them with a lot of tread left. Before that I had a set of BFG TA KO's that went about 60k.
Now, if I can just get my dealer to reprogram the darn truck for 265s. Sheesh, you'd think I shot the guy's puppy when I asked them to reprogram...
In any case, the new tires are great. The stock Bridgeston 245s were crap.

Rocky Hock Rebel 04-24-2006, 05:43 PM I got 285/75/16 bfg's mt on stock rims. They look good and fill the fenders up nice but there a little wide to be on stock rims. Had to do some minor trimming to the front finders but kept the torsion bars stock. Rides good with some noise but doesn't bother me. Did take much weight to balance them. Other than that i'm happy with them
rubb3r51d3d0wn 04-24-2006, 06:51 PM here are a couple of good charts my friend and i have used in the past. they are spreadsheets but the forum doesn't except them as such so the extension on the end is changed. you will have to copy these to your desktop and rename the .doc to .xls. they are safe. i work on computers all day and these are from my system at work.
Earnhardt218 05-07-2006, 05:57 PM I've noticed a few comments that seem to indicate some concern with putting 285's on stock rims. Can someone eleborate? Thanks.
LTChip 05-07-2006, 08:35 PM They are out of spec for a 6.5" wide rim. They will probably work (lots of folks have done it) just fine but they look a little bowed out and may wear unevenly. There is increased risk of popping the bead under load. 8" wide rims are much better suited to 285s.
ktm85 05-09-2006, 11:11 AM I have a 2003 crew cab sb duramax Has anyone run the uniroyal at 285 75 16 they have them at Walmart for around a $100 each total out the door for around $500 I have had Bf goodrich at 285 35,000 now bridgestone are wore out after 25,000 I had 265 uniroyals on my 89 1/2 ton and they were good tires?:help2:
Mr.Clean 05-12-2006, 01:29 AM 255 85r 16 Wild Counrty Radial XTX with maxxcams and 2" blocks in rear.IMO just right for my driving needs.
epb091786 05-17-2006, 02:25 AM DAMN, you guys get a lot of miles out of your tires!
If I get 12,000 miles I am LUCKY!
Loved my 265/75R16 E Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's (2 sets)
265/75R16 E Kuhmo Venture A/T (2 sets) good tires overall.
Bentley
BFG AT/KOs in 295/75R16. This is a 3400 lb tire and D rated, which is much higher load capacity than several E rated tires. I have a 4" lift so my tire clearance is great. I have them on 8" rims so the truck is very stable. They are half worn with 30,000 miles on them. I know a guy who had them on stock rims who got 60K out of his.
They are a little noiser than a pure highway tire, but not by much. They have very stiff sidewalls--I had to soften my shocks one click when I put these tires on (I upgraded from General trail tires in 285). They are great in standing water and decent in the mud, though if you plan to run in the mud a lot you need mud terrains. They have enough shoulder to get you out of mud a trail tire would stick you in.
They are a great all-around tire. When these wear out another set will be going on.
WAskier 06-10-2006, 12:00 PM Hi-tec retreading D-mud with their green diamond compound. 285-75/r16. They look pretty cool, I ran them for winter tires. I put about 6000 miles on them this winter, they performed well in snow and ice but not so well that they made up for how loud they are. I'm pretty sure I lost hearing driving around with these things they are so freaking loud! I'm not going to run them again this winter because of that so hopefully I can find someone to sell them to that'll want them for a off roader. Good news was that they didn't have any tread seperation or even hint at it which is always a worry for retreads. They did have a little less traction on dry and wet pavement than my yokohama Geolander AT's in the same size.
O'Neall 06-14-2006, 12:02 PM Just installed some LT285/70R17 Nitto TGs yesterday. Will see how they last, but the highway ride is very nice... with very negligible road noise. It was between these and BFG of the same size, but the BFG was only D-rated, so I went with the E-rated Nittos.
jdjensenmia 06-20-2006, 07:26 AM just gottem yesterday BFG AT 285/75/16 on stock Aluminum GM wheels. look 1000% better then those skinny little dougnuts from the stock steel wheels(245's). quiet and it's nice being a little higher haven't turned up the torsion bars yet. hey does any one know where i can go to find the new wheel tire hieght to input in the Edge i think it's in mm. not inches.
Samspimpn 07-04-2006, 04:20 PM 35x13.5R20s on 20x10 wheels with 4.5" offset are way too wide to run on a Chevy 2500 HD with a 4" Rancho Lift!!!!!! Really wish someone would have told me that before I had spent the $1600 on them!!
llcustom 07-04-2006, 04:55 PM 35x13.5R20s on 20x10 wheels with 4.5" offset are way too wide to run on a Chevy 2500 HD with a 4" Rancho Lift!!!!!! Really wish someone would have told me that before I had spent the $1600 on them!!
Are you running the Mickey ATZ??
Samspimpn 07-04-2006, 08:11 PM Yes, llcustom, Mickey Thompson ATZ RAdials on American Racing polished Mojave wheels. Guess I should have said that. I also should have said the $1600 was just for the tires. The wheels were another $850 or so.
Why, did you want to buy them??? I think they are for sale!
Fingers 07-04-2006, 08:13 PM Well I have a set of 375/55-16 ATZ's that will be replacing the 365/65-16 Nitto's on my truck. No lift no crank. Just a little trimming :D
Samspimpn 07-04-2006, 08:20 PM So you are dropping about 2 inches in tire height but gaining about a 1/2 inch in tire width Fingers? What for? Did you 365/16s rub? Do you have a lift?
Samspimpn 07-04-2006, 08:49 PM JD,
If you know the height in inches, input it in the proper converter on this website: http://www.teaching-english-in-japan.net/conversion/kilograms
Fingers 07-04-2006, 08:58 PM Tread is about 1/4" wider (measured) Height is about 1-1/2" less as they sit, but they are not mounted yet. I wanted about the same size tire, but I didn't want the Nittos again. The smaller size will help a little when starting out a loaded trailer. They have a little more load rating than the Nittos too. Just seemed like the right choice at the time.
I did some significant modifications to the front wheel wells. No Lift, no crank.
The driver's side gave me some problems with rubbing the washer bottle but that is fixed. If the suspension is totally collapsed, the Nittos would lightly rub the bottom of the fender lip. The sawsall and hammer action is not for the faint of heart. The cab corners had to be collapsed about 1-1/2 inches.
Fingers 07-04-2006, 09:00 PM JD, if you want them to fit you can make them. It will take some mods though.
Samspimpn 07-04-2006, 09:21 PM How tall were your other tires Fingers? My tire calculator says that they were 34.68" tall and 14.37" wide. If you stuffed something that big under your stock truck your my hero! After the shop that installed my 4" Rancho lift showed they were complete idiots, I've been driving around to various 4 wheel shops in Las Vegas asking if anyone can make the lift work with my 35X13.5R20s and everyone just shrugs their shoulders like it is impossible, even if I give them a fistfull of money and a free ticket to start cutting and hammering!
Anyway, I would love to see a pic of your rig before you switch the tires, and better yet of your wheel wells while your tires are off!
Thanks.
I have an update to my previous post.
I just replaced my tires at 33,000 miles. I had BFG ATs in 295/75R16. I made a couple mistakes that would have let them reach or maybe even exceed their 40,000 mile expected tread life. I ran 50 PSI front and rear and missed a tire roataion. The fronts were fine but the rears had the centers worn down.
I had at least 1/3 of the tread left on the tires that had been on the front the longest. However, driving at 75-80 mph everyday, especially when road temps are routinely over 100 degrees, is hard on a tire--exepcially a tire on a 3/4 ton truck. I had a lot of weather and tread chunks missing.
After doing a lot of research, I discovered a couple things. One, when you read the online reviews of tires, guys with 3/4 and 1-ton trucks tell a much different story than guys with little trucks. Tire life is the biggest complaint with any brand of tire on 3/4 and 1-ton pick-ups, and the norm is not not get advertised tread life.
Second, tires on our trucks MUST be frequently rotated. Where missing a roatation with a 1/2 ton truck or car is not always a big deal, it certainly can be an issue for 3/4 and 1-ton trucks.
Third, we need to run less psi in our rear tires, especially in the larger tire sizes, in order to keep the tread wear even. This also means thet when hauling a heavy load we need to add pressure to our rear tires.
Finally, I learned the BFG AT is one of the best tires in withstanding heat, which is a factor where I live. They have now added a 40,000 mile tread warranty to the BFGs, which means I can get a proration if the wear out earlier.
Sulley 07-12-2006, 01:34 AM BFG AT 285 75 16 on stock rims. 15k and going strong. Will never buy a different tire. Had the Toyo AT and they were done at 32K. Elk season was nasty and I can't say anything bad about the BFG. I was plowing snow half way up the front bumper with no extra weight for 7 days. Rumor had it they were crap in snow but i'm hear to tell you they do not. Was going to get the Revos' but will never need to try them. They even work great in the sand. If you know someone you can get them for $142 instead of $202. I also tow 18k often and no problems there either. Proper inflation!
malibu795 07-20-2006, 12:27 AM bfg commercail at 245/75 r16. got them with the truck i have put bout 4k since buying the truck. tire had bout 75% tread buy the 2500 mark the rear was almost half the front all the sipe cut were gone and basicly a ribbed tire. so no more rotation now. the front still has bout 60% left.no traction on/in anything but hard pavement chips going over the paint marking at intersecion under moderate acceleration. rough ride. hasnt rained yet my gues would be dangerous
looking at getting some MT mtx's or Pro Comp ATs
Fingers 07-20-2006, 09:13 AM Mickey Thompson 375/55-16 ATZs
These replace my Nitto 365/65-16s. The tread is much more agressive and I have noticed the increased off road traction. The volume is about the same as the Nittos, but has a different frequency. More of a grumble than and hum. When aired up, they are a little harsh, but with less air they are about the same ride Nittos.
No Lift, no crank on the truck, but my wheel wells had been modified to accept the Nittos. With these I have room to spare with the lower profile. I'll get some more miles on these and check back in.
Samspimpn 07-20-2006, 10:31 AM Replaced my 20x10 wheels with 20x8.5" wheels with the same 4.5" of backspace and my Mickey Thompson 35x13.5R20s now fit much, much better than before, are far easier to turn, and don't look quite as strange sticking outside of my wheel wells. Thus far, I have also been able to turn down my torsion bars 4.5 turns greatly improving the ride given by my Rancho 4" lift. Now to get the Cognito pitman brace and assembly to further enhance steering, and replace those blocks in the rear with progressive springs/air bags. Slowly but surely!
cwq21 07-25-2006, 11:47 AM Been running Cooper A/T 265's 10 PLY for the last 45,000 miles. While towing my 5'er this W/E, My RR tire had the belts slip. Started vibrating really bad.
Now don't think I'm badmouthing Cooper. This was probably my fault. I usually air up to 70 PSI towing and got in a hurry and forgot to do it.
My spare was a 245 and I didn't want to run it very far and not all the way home for sure. Finding a tire shop that had a 10 ply on a Saturday was a challange and the guy helped me out and sold me a Jetson tire for $183 mounted and balanced. LOL.
Going today and having a set of 4 Toyo A/T's put on. $145 each. I'll keep the $183/265 tire as my spare and I'll have to find someone that needs a stock 245 that only has about 30 - 40 miles on it.
Sulley 07-29-2006, 04:31 PM It's in the manual that comes with the Edge or go to the web site Edgeproducts.com
dmaxfan 08-15-2006, 08:00 AM Running Cooper Discoverers SST 285 75 16. Not alot of road noise at all.
SSTuner 08-20-2006, 07:37 AM Nitto Grapplers 295/70-17 (tires.com/$175.00 each)
H2 Wheels (eBay)
Notes:
1-Very little road noise on highway
2-Tire Preassure 50F/45R (experimenting) with tire pressure set at factory specs ride was to hard.
3-Seven turns on torsion bar/heated and refromed inner fender
4-Truck now gets alot of thumbs up!!!
JD Diesel 09-01-2006, 01:29 AM Nitto Terra Crappers:eek: 265 75 16 No hot roding no power adders 2500 miles towing-:t and 2 rotates 8,000 miles almost gone 25% left. They suck BADCensored
GuidoAmm 09-05-2006, 03:29 AM I am still waiting for my truck... delivery to port of Aqaba is on 16th September. Then I'll have to clear it out of customs...
Anyway....
I was sold on:
35x12.5 Trxus MT tires at a cost of $1600 (five tires)
17x8.5 with 4.5bs Trailready beadlocks for $1850 (five wheels)
Installation for the lot was $450
After some weeks of reading up on this board I now realize a couple of things:
I got screwed on price.
I got screwed on product (as far as the tires are concerned)
After I get my truck, I'll be looking to go with BFGs... either the 35x12.50 or the 37x12.5
Live and learn...

ifishforwalleyes 09-08-2006, 05:02 PM How about Cooper Discovery STT's. I have BF's right now and like them but I just saw a set of these the other day the look nice. Any comments on them noise wear durability?
GuidoAmm 09-09-2006, 11:14 AM When off roading, I'll be driving over terrain that is mostly rocky and flinty. It is hell for tires. My ideal tire would be a tire with tough side walls made out of three or more plies. BFG seem to have good quality side walls and that is my over-riding consideration.
Do Coopers have reinforced side walls?

olddog 09-13-2006, 07:13 PM Michelin 265/16's. Very quiet and load range of E ( 3400) on my 06 2500HD.
dmaxfan 09-14-2006, 07:19 AM How about Cooper Discovery STT's. I have BF's right now and like them but I just saw a set of these the other day the look nice. Any comments on them noise wear durability?
Not alot of noise at all. I only have 2500 miles on them so I can't comment on tread life.
problemchild 09-16-2006, 02:35 PM 285/70/17 bfg's on h2 wheels
Perfect fit for this truck. This is the tire the truck should have come with. Very little pull and great wear so far. Should end up with 45k miles and that off road and tons of city driving. Low noise too hardly noticable.
firefightersydow 09-22-2006, 12:50 PM Has anyone bought the goodyear silent armor tires. I am looking for the best tire for year round, and pushing snow in the winter. LT265/75/16E.
Tar Baby 09-22-2006, 01:34 PM firefightersydow, I have had the silent armors on now for about 15,000 miles. Mine are the 285/75/16 D and I really like the tires, prob one of the best tires I have ever owned, and I have owned a lot of them. Excellent traction in wet/heavy rainfall. Very good winter and ice traction too. I think the BFG's have them beat for heavy snow, but they are still a great all around tire I would highly recommend!
ironman24 09-30-2006, 12:10 PM Has anyone bought the goodyear silent armor tires. I am looking for the best tire for year round, and pushing snow in the winter. LT265/75/16E.
I had the Goodyear silent armor on my truck, and i didnt care for them at all. I did like the way they looked, but as for snow and dirt roads they werent that great at all, And they didnt last that long either.
I just put a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo on two months ago, and i love them. They are a little louder on the highway driving but the truck seems to ride smoother and last weekend i had it out in some mud and was very impressed with them.
LTChip 09-30-2006, 01:26 PM My experience with the Goodyears has been excellent. By far the best tire I have ever had. They are very quiet. They have a great look.
On really rough dirt "roads" they track very nicely at speeds I shouldn't even be going (just tried this out yesterday). In rain, I am continually amazed at the grip and lack of hydroplane. In packed snow/ice they are definately superior to others I have tried including the stock Firestones I had on before. I have not had them in deep snow or mud though.
They are also wearing very well. Highly recommended.
The ones I have are Wrangler Silent Armor 285/75/16s on 16x8 wheels. These are the D rated version as the E rated ones were not out yet IIRC.
I also have had the Fortera Silent Armor on my wife's SUV and they were awesome too. I am a convert to these new Goodyears.
jon leveque 09-30-2006, 01:59 PM anyone tried the toyo M55
WOJO 1 10-03-2006, 01:14 PM My experience with Goodyear tires is just that. GOOD FOR A YEAR. I have yet to see a set of Goodyear tires go the distance on a 3/4 ton truck.
Pro Comp A/T's 285/75/16. Just like the BFG's, a little too wide for the factory rims.
Denny4kids 10-10-2006, 12:28 AM I went with 285/70/17 BFG KO's on H2 wheels.
John Wilson 11-02-2006, 04:13 AM LT265/75-16 LRC Firestone Destination A/T on the stock Alloy wheels. Ride is smooth and quiet with no clearance issues. I had these tires in a P-rated version on a 96 Suburban and they were great in both rain and snow! I paid $118 each for these LTs.:D
Siphon 11-14-2006, 12:18 PM Cooper Discoverer ATR LT265/75-16 E on PYO; $720 installed at Tri-State Tire in Rapid City, SD. A little squirmy right out of the box, but quiet, ride nice, look good. Only had 'em on a couple days, will be putting them through the paces off-road shortly.
Sidebite252 11-16-2006, 09:47 PM I Just replaced my Firestone TransForce AT LT265/75R (E) 16's today - wore out just over 30,000 miles - They were never good tires in wet conditions & have been a danger in wet condtions for the last 8000 miles. The ride was good but not what I expected off road (a good looking tread that doesn't really bit.) I'm sure weight & torque of the Dmax reduces the tread life for most of us that run AT tires. 90% Highway use & I did get over 18 mpg on this set up.
Replacement:
Bridgestone Dueler Revo AT LT265/75R (E) 16's
$956 OTD with Road Hazard & lifetime rotation
About $200 more than I paid for the Firestones - only time will tell if they are worth the extra bucks - They are a bad *** looking tire though - look good on the old buggy.

cruiserprg 11-18-2006, 01:07 PM Can you tell me the mpg difference in switching to the larger tires. Also, what is the rpm at 80 mph? I want to be able to go a little faster before the pilot injection turns off and rattles me to death. I do not want to dramatically reduce acceleration with the switch. I know with gas engines the mpg and performance would drop. The diesel might be different. I currently get 20mpg on the highway. Should I replace the 245's with 265's or 285's? Thanks!
Sidebite252 11-20-2006, 02:50 AM I moved up to 265's on the 1st set after I replaced the stock 245's. I like the 10 ply & it's hard to fiind 10 ply in 285's. May also be some clearance problems (front tires) on stock trucks using 285's but that's something I can't confirm (just suppect.) I also wonder if they would be kind of spungy or bounch with that size tire on a 16" stock rim?
I saw my RPM's drop from about 2150 rpm @ 70 mph on the 245's to around 2000 rpm on the 265's. No change in mpg for me & the speedo change is very slight (about 1 to 2 mph). I think the 265's look much better on the 2500HD's than the hockey puck 245's. Those Revo's I just put on are attention getters - nice ride on the highway. I'm sticking to 265's on my ride.
HarringtonBC 11-21-2006, 08:17 PM Bought a used '04 2500HD with BFG 285/75 AT's (D rated) on stock rims with a small lift. Seem to be wearing pretty evenly with about 75% tread left.
Lot of guys running oversized aren't pulling a heavy 5ver of 19,000-20,000 lbs GCVW. Only read of one post of heavier pulling at 18,000 with the 285's. Any others?
Am pondering going to 265's as I can still sell the 285's and not be too much out of pocket. Don't mud bog and will be 95% on pavement with balance on gravel. Thinking I might go Michelin LTX M/S 265's or the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor's. Want an E rated tire. Also like the idea of proper speedo calibration.

Sidebite252 11-23-2006, 01:44 AM 265s will still affect your speedo. I like the Goodyears.
I won't argue with this statement but my experience is the 265's affect on the speedo is very minimal. As a matter of fact, my speedo was spot on @ 45 mph checked with a radar gun.
Siphon 11-27-2006, 12:19 PM Well, I had a chance to put the Cooper Discoverer ATRs to work this weekend over about 500 miles of mixed dirt & snow-covered road conditions. I have to say that, like a lot of AT patterns, they're nothing spectacular when it comes to traction off-road. Driving in about 6 inches of dry granular snow, they struggled pretty bad. I was pretty disappointed in this respect because I expected the heavy siping and medium tread void to be advantageous in snow. In shallow mud, they were OK but took a heavy go-pedal to get me through without being stuck. On ice, they were OK. On gravel, they were fine but tend to pick up big rocks. I think they'd do better off-road without that center tread rib, but this would probably make them hydroplane easier on the pavement. All in all, I'd say they're a very nice-riding, quiet road tire with off-road capabilities that would be 'good enough' for most people (i.e., don't go out in that stuff very often).
Chuck1 11-30-2006, 07:44 AM I have had the 265/75/16 Cooper discovery's on my truck now for a year almost 40,000 miles, and they will never grace a truck of mine again. Squirrely on wet pavement is an understatement. I had Michelin LT4's on before that, and they were great. That is the direction I am leaning when I go get new tires today.
ar077 01-16-2007, 09:50 PM 285/60-18 Nitto Terra Grapplers mounted on Centerline 18" x 9" (5.25" backspace) wheels (picture at my garage). Circumference is only 3% greater than stock 245/75-16s. Required minor trimming of front wheel well liner and at bottom trailing plastic corners of bumper (very easy and not noticeable). Improvement in handling (due to lower profile tires squared off on wide wheels) was apocalyptic. Those who muddle along on their stock whees will never know how much fun it can be to drive their trucks.
uhlenbe 02-18-2007, 10:03 PM Kumho KL-78 285/75-16 on stock rims. Kumho 285 at Tire Rack is $109, Firestone Destinations $138, Pirelli's-$178, Duelers-$180 see reviews about noise after initial wear in, & Silent Armor's-$180 see reviews about fuel mpg hit.
The Kumho's are awesome in the snow and rain, quiet on the highway, and the part I really like is that they are only 8.75" width at the treads (standard 245 Duravis 773 were 8") meaning all I did was trim the front air dam a little turned the torsion bars 4 turns to make things look right...that was it.
Next is a set of Bilstein shocks (fronts for 0-2" lift)
Love the 285's !!!
Captain Redbird 02-22-2007, 03:47 AM 285/75/16 BFG AT KO's with 33k miles on them right now. Looks like I'll get another 8-10k out of them. stocks wheels and even tread wear... I do rotate every 5k and balance when needed. They will wear in the middle a little bit with too much air pressure in the rear if you don't pay attention. Most of the miles are in town stop and go.
timzr02 02-23-2007, 09:32 PM 265/75/16 Dik Cepek FCII's on 16x8 DC 1's 4.5" bs. They rubbed very bad until a big trim on the Dside inner fender and both lower valances. I had these tires on a ZR2 and loved them. After 1 week and 700 miles on them I think I made a bad decision. They are wobbly, noisy, ride hard and they sound and feel like a set of mud tires. My has dropped from 17.75 to 16.25 in mixed driving. I have an 02 with 102k.
gopokes 02-28-2007, 08:01 PM 265/75/16 BFG's great snow and ice traction in my opinion and decent on the highway.
MoEngineer 03-01-2007, 04:21 PM 285/75/R17
Load range D, but rated at 3,000 lbs
Smaller sizes, 265 for example are rated lower
199/each at tirerack.com
I sold the truck after only 15,000 miles on the new tires so I can’t report on tread life.
More noise than the all terrain tires, less than the BFG mud terrain. Great wet/snow/mud traction. Really Great off-road traction. I’d buy them again.
malibu795 03-01-2007, 04:45 PM bfg commercail at 245/75 r16. got them with the truck i have put bout 4k since buying the truck. tire had bout 75% tread buy the 2500 mark the rear was almost half the front all the sipe cut were gone and basicly a ribbed tire. so no more rotation now. the front still has bout 60% left.no traction on/in anything but hard pavement chips going over the paint marking at intersecion under moderate acceleration. rough ride. hasnt rained yet my gues would be dangerous
looking at getting some MT mtx's or Pro Comp ATs
i got michellen LT4 265/75R16 stock rims the replace the bridgestone
well i got 21k on them right now roughly 50-55% left of tread
the suck on anything other than hard pavement
hoosier83 03-06-2007, 07:48 AM Great Tire so far. Only put about 10k on them. Got them in a package deal with the wheels (check garage) for $1325 mounted and balanced to the door. I got 285's, but you can get 265's if you want E load range,(it only gets you 100# more). A little noisy until you get to cruising speed, (70mph). Excellent traction in mud and snow. I buried my truck to the frame and these tires had enough side bite to pull me out.:D I will definitely buy another set when its time.

hoffy19dmax 04-09-2007, 08:45 PM Good in mud and snow quieter than most other mud terrains. I had them on my dmax and I have about 45,000miles on them and there going on my new helo rims to run for the summer. They still have 8/32 tread left. Would have bought them again but needed tires fast for winter and it was a 2 month wait to get them. I went with hankook Mt's 315/75-16 and have 15000miles on them and they look like new.
sled_mack 04-13-2007, 08:50 PM Right now I have 265/75/16s on that need to be replaced. I'd like to stay with the same diameter, but a little narrower of a tire. Any suggestions? And, if anyone has them, how do they look?
Thanks,
Steve

SangerHydro 04-19-2007, 08:25 PM I'm thinking of trying the Mickey Thompson MTZ next.
31"to33" X as wide as I can squeeze on without a lift.
The tires listed in my signature were on my truck when I bought it 1-1/2 weeks ago
Sulley 04-21-2007, 03:03 AM Bought a used '04 2500HD with BFG 285/75 AT's (D rated) on stock rims with a small lift.
 Or do I just leave it all alone? Appreciate any and all input.
I have pulled 18-20k (35" toy hauler not 5th wheel though and have had quads on the sled deck while pulling) several times with my BFG 285's but I have 8" wide rims and they are D rated. If you look at the actual weight rating the 285 D's are rated for a couple hundred more lbs than the stock tires were at E. There are more variables than the tire, like the road, debris, ruts, composition etc that can cause tires to blow out. I have had no problems but I make sure I keep my pressure up. I had Toyo AT 285's on stock rims on my 03 and Les Schwab rotated and kept air pressure for all 32k but centers wore quick. The 6.5" rims are just not wide enough in my opinion.
steakman 05-07-2007, 01:29 PM Ok read the thread...
Seems like Michelins LT265/75R16s LRE are what I am going to get...today if at all possible. Now mind ya, if Toyo makes a similar tire in their Open country series and in an HT model, I shall be sold.
I'll let ya know with pics what happened.

ROADNOTCA 05-20-2007, 03:43 PM BFG T/A KM LT255/85R16D. T-bar crank and alignment. No modifications to fenders.
Tires are noisy. I'll just have to drive faster than the speed of sound. :Get_him:
Captain Redbird 06-29-2007, 10:29 PM Update... I've got 40k on the BFG AT TA KO 285/75/16d on stock wheels. I'm happy with the treadwear. I've been running 55 in the front and 45 or less in the rear depending on how bad the middle was wearing. I could probably get 5k more miles out of them but don't want to chance it in the rain.
Tuf Toy 07-27-2007, 04:20 PM Anyone run Nokian Vatiiva's or Nokian Hakkapelitta LT or Nokian WRSUV ? I do a lot of winter driving in VT, may possibly plow with the rig. I drive a2006 Dmax 2500HD extended cab with 8' bed. I don't want a lift (like the tailgate height usable and my hitch height, and I don't feel like having to use a step to get in) but I do want a taller more aggressive tire than the stock 245's . I actually like the stock rims very much, and don't like H2 rims (I'm an H1 owner so I'm jaded) I have been running BFG MT and BFG AT KO's for years on my old Defender and H1 and love them. The Dmax is my dedicated on road Tow rig and possible plow truck So I wont be going as aggressive as the MT's. So I guess I'm looking for a year round tire that's great in the snow and ice, that I don't need a lift to use, will hold up to towing, that can mount on the stock wheel and is between 265/75 R16 and 295/75 R16 (think it's too much to ask? Any suggestions?
Tuf Toy 08-01-2007, 02:31 PM Well I settled on the BFGoodrich AT KO 285/75 R16 on the stock alloy wheel, no lifts no mods no rubbing. If you are considering these tires there are 2 versions of them, the D which is 8 ply R speed rated for Severe Snow , and the E which is 10 ply and Q speed rated But for some reason the E is NOT Severe Snow rated. Snow is what we deal with most in VT so I went with the D rated tire.

rmuehlhausen 08-24-2007, 02:13 PM Has anyone tried the toyo's in a 38x15 on any size rim. The 35 toyo's ride pretty nice on my jeep, only had them about a thousand miles so far. They have also held up pretty well on the rubicon and fordyce trails.
Tires i have had:
35x14.5 thornbirds - terrible on road loud and rough, didn't last and ok offroad
38x15 boggers - terrible on road loud and rough, about 20k out of em, great offroad
36x14 Parneli Jones - great on road, don't know, First trip offroad they came apart in chunks
37x13 BFG Krawlers- not bad on road quiet, might get to 20k, great for rock crawling
35x13 toyo mud - good on road still quiet but they only got about 1k miles on em, just bought em, so far not to bad off road

nyduramax 09-03-2007, 07:51 AM when i first bought my truck it had a set of michelin LTX 265/75r/16 on stock rims they were a good tire not much left to them when i got the truck.
I replaced them with cooper 265/75/16 ATR on stock rims , this has been a great tire for me, great in snow quiet and good wear, i rotate them every 6months . I am just about ready for new tires the mileage on the tire is almost 40,000 miles.
Need new shoes soon so ,I am currently thinking of going the cognito leveling kit ,before i buy new tires and rims

Tuf Toy,
how do you like your AT's. i farm and a 10 ply tires is what i'm looking for, as well as no mods to my front suspension with new tires. i like the way yours looks with the 285's. how are they wearing? i'm debating between the 285 Cooper Discoverer STT's and the BFGoodrich AT's. anybody got any suggestions, comparisons?
factorymx 09-07-2007, 11:13 AM ive been reading that people trim there bumper to fit 285's on stock rims on a stock truck is that needed? and were do you guys trim the bumper?
bentwrench1 09-08-2007, 01:19 PM Well I put on a set of 285/65 R18 E Nitto Terra Grapplers on Chrome Predator Rims with +25 offeset. Had to crank up the T bars so they wouldn't rub on inner driverside fenderwell. The ride is a little stiff that way. Talked to the manager at Discount Tire and he is getting me the 285/60 R18 E. It will give me an xtra 1/2" of room so I can take some pressure off the T bars for a better ride and run the factory molded mud flaps.
Talisi 09-11-2007, 11:32 AM SuperTuscan, great for towing in the "E" load range. I've run them for years on my Dodge Rams. Just waiting until the stock tread wears out then going back to them.
domano 68 09-11-2007, 12:56 PM Great info, thanks!
Big Black 05 09-12-2007, 03:53 PM I also have the Nitto Grapplers on KMC 18 INCH wheels and I had to crank up my t bar also but it looks good but am looking for a better way to level out the front.

Joshthemule 09-27-2007, 08:33 AM Here is an awesome link for comparing sizes. You will see them next to eachother and it gives you the speed conversion. Plus warns you of any rubbing areas. I swear by Mich. LTX M/S 265/75/16. I've had two trucks, my father has run them on two trucks and they routinely last 70k with excellent traction dry or wet. Some trail. We are in Texas so I know nothing about snow.

ar077 09-29-2007, 08:26 PM I love my wheel/tire setup and the wear rate on my Nitto Terra Grapplers is satisfactory (pictures in garage were taken when tires had over 13,000 miles on them). However, the Nittos are "S" rated, which means vehicle speed should not exceed 112 mph. The truck wants to go fast and on a few occasions I've pegged the speedometer (courtesy of Superchips) so I really need tires that are at least "H" rated. Anyone know of any 285/60-18 "H" speed-rated tires?
pro69ss 10-02-2007, 12:50 PM Has anyone looked at the new Nitto Dura Grapplers (not Terra) or put them on your truck? They look pretty sweet on their site.

Diesel07 10-17-2007, 11:59 PM 07.5 LMM 2500 285/75/16E BFG A/T. Put them on stock rims without leveling kit. Minor trimming to the thin plastic fenderwells. Post leveling kit probably not necessary. Only 1200 miles on them. Just pulled my trailer great with them!
klinkerstinker 10-18-2007, 07:16 PM I am a "Fulltiming RVer" with lots of miles on lots of tires. This looks like a good place for me to offer up some of my experiences. On my earlier (smaller) trailers which weighed in the 8K to 10K puund range I had good results with Uniroyal LTs in the 215 to 235 X 15 in the C rating. Mind you I wore out the factory tires in short order, and as I recall my aftermarket Uniroyals would last over 60K, or about 2 to 3 times the factory tires. At that point I would trade trailers usually with the Uniroyals still rolling.
My present trailer which is a 5th wheel, weighs about 13K (5K per axle) and is wearing Goodyear Wranglers 235X85X16Es. I like the looks of these tires and a lot of heavy trailers come equipped with them so I have been a little too loyal I think. With about 110K miles on this trailer I have replaced 8 of these tires due to casing failure. The tires failed anywhere from 20K to 60K with the belts and the tread separating from the radial plys. All but one still holding air. Many dealers will not honor the factory warranty if the tires are used on trailers, or at least that is their excuse for not offering any adjustment! After a zillion phone calls and several letters, Goodyear did financially compensate me for the failures that I was experiencing. I will be changing to another brand of tires this winter.
The tires on my trucks are a different story. I have had 3 consectutive Chevy 4X4s with extended cabs. Two big block gassers and my present klinkerstinker. The first trailer puller averaged about 65K miles to a set of Uniroyal Lorados (3 sets) and about 60K to the transmissions. That old 700R4 was not a strong transmission and I am not notorious for babying a Chevy. Those tires were a tad noisey but I still lived in snow country so I needed the agressive tread.
My next Chevy came with General Americanas, they were quiet and offered good traction on dry pavement but wore out at 35K. I replaced them with Michelin LTX ATs. They were on a promotion sale ($110 mounted) but were so squirrely for the first 10K I had the front end aligned twice and the tires rotated once. Then I just "lived with it". By 20K either they were good or I was used to it. They were noisier than I would have liked, but at that price, yes I got used to them. They were still on the truck when I sold it with 131K on the odometer. That's over 96K pulling that heavy trailer about 80% of those miles!
My present truck (pulling the same 5th wheel trailer) came equipped with Bridgstone Duravis M773 IIs. They are a bit noisier than I like but the overall traction is good. The rubber in the tread seems to "chunk out" in pea size pieces. Doesen't look good. They will be worn to replacement by 45K. I think it's a safe bet to say I will be putting Michelins on the truck soon. I haven't decided which version I will be getting. Their RIBs look good for my use however I wonder about wet traction.
At my age (68) and life style I do not drive where snow is, neither do I do the mud or gravel thing. I use the 4X4 only for it's super low gearing.
I hope somebody benefits from my experiences.
stubbymechano 10-18-2007, 11:06 PM I have just taken delivery of my LBZ, and I will be changing over to Nokian Vatiiva's either stock size or 265's, I have had the Goodyear Wranglers, (they sucked) them went to Michelin LTX M/S in the 245/75 R16 all these were on a 2wd Cummins, they were very good tires, and I got about 70k out of them but I wanted something a little more aggressive (one tire for all year) and I moved from the city to a mountainous ruralarea... my tire guy recomended the Vativiia's, and I ran them last winter. I found the traction far superior to the Michelin (65k on a set). The Nokian Valitas also had a tread life warranty, and were seeming to wear well after 25k I look forward to getting them on my LBZ next week....
Cheers
factorymx 10-19-2007, 12:19 PM good year has alot of diffrent wranglers out which ones were they and where they the silent armors that just came out?
klinkerstinker 10-19-2007, 02:10 PM No, these Goodyear Wranglers are not the the new Silent Armors. They are the Wranglers labeled 235X85X16 LT with a circle around the letter S which designates them from the earlier Wranglers and Marathons that were shredding themselves when used on trailers. They also have M+S on the sidewall but the tread IS highway, looks almost commercial. Beautiful tire! A foot note here: My son has a set of their G rated all steel tires that are to be inflated to 110 psi on his trailer. With few miles and about 2 years old one of his threw a belt and tread and was still inflated to the proper pressure. I'm finnished with them.
firebird69racer 11-13-2007, 07:35 PM Has anyone ran the Yokohama Geolandar A/T Plus II tires on their trucks, I have them on my Jeep
I didnt read all the posts,
I have a 06 GMC 3500 4X4 Crew Cab single rear tire, stock wheel and suspension, will 275/75/16 fit with no problems, the factory size is 265/75/16. I do mostly highway driving empty, pull a 30' 5th wheel about 8 times a year about 50 miles each time. Would this be a good tire?
ROADNOTCA 11-20-2007, 07:08 PM Just a tip. The "HDs" have a 2" body lift over the non-HDs. I mention this because I suspect there are brothers out there lifting their non-HDs. So as far as trimming etc, that 2" can make the difference. If you need to check to see of you have the 2" lift, look for RPO code HVY on your glove box birth certificate.:D
I put these on my '07 Classic mounted on chrome H2 wheels. They are basically a ribbed highway tire but the extra size makes the truck look loads better.

Tuckerllc 11-26-2007, 01:15 PM I just installed a Procomp 6" lift and I'm lookin' at buying some Ultra Predator 20x10 w/ -25 offset. I want to run the new Nitto Dune Grapplers LT325/60R20 D 121R. These tires are 35.08" outside dia. and 13.11" wide. Does anyone know if these tires are gonna rub?

tydawn 11-26-2007, 11:41 PM Want to replace my OEM 265/70R17 Bridgestone on my 2008 LLM
Any comments on Goodyear Silent Armour (E Rated), what is the difference between the Silent Armour and the SA Fortera.
Sorta want to stick with an E rated tire, I do alot of gravel roads and need a tire that doesn't pick up to many stones, I do a lot of snow and ice to. The Goodyear SA seems to be a very popular tire here or is it over rated ? I do not like the OEM's no traction and my paint is getting sandblasted.
factorymx 11-27-2007, 11:20 PM i have about 10k on mine so far and i love them and im not a slow gas saving driver either i put these tires to the test. they handle awesome in dry, wet, dirt, and gravel i drive on alot of gravel roads on job sites and like any a/t tire they will throw up some stones but its not as bad as the bridgestone revos i used to have and i have taken these tires throught some slight mud about 6-12" and they got me thru the only thing i havent done with them yet is driving in snow and ice but its getting to that time i think they will have no problem though hope this helps you out.
tydawn 11-28-2007, 09:54 PM Thanks for the info I am glad you like them ,going to switch mine soon to Goodyear S/A.
The only problem is they are out of stock everywhere, and no one seems to now when they can supply them.
factorymx 11-28-2007, 10:11 PM you know where i found mine i searched everywhere and no one had them in stock except for SEARS give them a shot i only purchased the tires there they charge way too much to install them
rgullett83 11-29-2007, 01:41 PM 265/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R on 16x8 Moto Metals, not for sure on offset, had to trim front valance, crank t-bars, trim inner fender on d-side. I have ran MT/R's on every vehicle I have owned for the last 5 years(except 1). Pretty Expensive fairly noisy, good offroad, not very good in rain:(, excellent in snow. I am a faithful person when it comes to rotation and periodic rebalancing, and I can squeeze about 46,000 mi out of them. I may try something different when it is time for new tires. I want new wheels(18's), I have been looking at Pro-Comps Extreme A/T
pls5160 12-01-2007, 09:24 PM I think I have read every post on this site regarding tires. Or at least enough to be half cross eyed and completely confused. I have an 02 8.1 L extended cab. I have run Goodyear ATs, two sets of Cooper Discovers, and now a set of Bridgestone Revos. All those tires were 265/75/16s on original wheels, E rated. I get about 20 K out of any given set. All rode about the same etc. The Revos are new so I don't know about them yet but I do like the ride. I am a surveyor so it's about 60% highway and 40% offroad with that truck, mostly logging roads, lots of rock, mud, pot holes some snow. Just bought an 06 Durmax crewcab with 21K on it. Just after purchase the guy I bought it from put on a set of 285/75/16 (original wheels) Firestone Destinations. Tires do not rub and wear is amazingly even. He did 95% highway and pulled a 5th wheel from time to time. These Firestones have about 5 or 6 K left on them and I am planning to make them next summers tires. The Duramax will see about 80% highway and 20% offroad and will pull an 19 ft. ultralite trailer. This being the said I am looking for a Firestone replacement. I have read Michelins great/Michelins crap, Goodyear Silent Armor wonderful/GY Silent Armor out of round, BFG ATs D rated great/BFG ATs squirrely (I do know that my tire guy will NOT sell the BFG E rated tire), Nittos are nada. Don't know what to try on the 06, maybe pick one of each and see what happens.

"Nittos are nada"?? Did you have a bad experience with Nittos? I love my Nitto Terra Grapplers, and will be replacing them (when the time comes) with the new E-rated version that they've come out since I bought mine.
02RedWS6TA 12-02-2007, 04:19 PM I ran a set of 305 BFG MT KM's with a set of 10" wheels on my 2002 8.1l ec/sb. I had the tires on for about 25k miles and rotated them probably 2-3 times. When I sold them they probably had another 10k left in them. They were a loud tire though, I used to wake my buddy up going passed his house in the morning. They did good off road and did pretty good in the snow the first year I had them. After the edges wore off they weren't as good as the stock tires in the snow.
Don't mind the headlight covers ;) I was only 18

Ran 285 Nitto terragrapplers with stock wheels on my last 2005 durmax cc/sb. They weren't rotated once in 30k miles. They were pretty shot at the end of their run though, I loved these tires in everything but mud. They filled up fast and they didn't clean out well at all. They were quiet, handled great, lasted awesome for how I treated them, and best of all they are cheap. I will probably be running these again on a set of winter wheels on my current 2006.

Currently my 2006 has 37" Kumho MT's on 22" Mazzi Hulk wheels. They are a cool looking tire, they do alright in the snow but they do spin pretty easy. I can't speak of how they do off road and probably will never be able to do so. They are pretty loud, it was the first thing my dad commented on when he road in my truck for the first time. They do ride good, and I can see getting about 25-30k out of these with regular rotations. I don't think I'd buy them again though, probably Toyo's next time around.

Nolafishr 12-09-2007, 04:16 PM I have Goodyear Wrangler AT 265/75R/16 on stock rims, Pro Grade tires with Load Range "E" on mine, Got them from Tire rack for $154.00 each. :D
2007 Silverado 2500 HD LT Ext Cab SB/Black Ext/Ebony Int/ LMM Diesel
tydawn 12-09-2007, 06:27 PM Good Price
How do you like them so far ?:o:
Mhale00 12-12-2007, 05:19 PM I just dropped my 08 LMM to get lifted this morning. I bought it last friday. I am still debating about tires. I had a lifted suburban that I traded and was thinking of going to a 305 before traded it in. My ? is, would 305/55/20 look to small on a 6" lifted truck. I've seen all the 35's and 36's but can't say I have seen the 33's. I'm just trying to save a few bucks and some fuel.
Great all around tire. Great ride. No noise. Great handling. Even wear with high pressure. Great MPG. Great ice and snow. Great handling- because of larger side walls, recommend higher pressures then stock- start at 65 psi all around.
Kyrik 12-22-2007, 05:55 AM Hello, this is my first post here. I have a 08 GMC 2500HD LLM and have decided to change out my stock 17's, with 17x9 Black XD Series Diesel Rims. Was told they will stick out about 2 inchs or so but no problems.
I went to order them at the local NTB with 265/70/17 BFG A/T load e, and they said that the tires are unavailable from BFG. Anyone else hear this? Was going to go with Toyo Open Country but they dont sell Toyo.
Anyway my question is can you fit 285/70/17 on the new body style with NO MODS without rubbing or issues? Anyone put a bigger tire on stock rim size yet?
I have looked for a few days here and cant find, but theres alot to go though. Thanks
philtopgun 01-21-2008, 05:50 PM Just scrolled thru 19pages and didnt find any good r18's... Anyone know what is the biggest 18 you can run with just torsion bars cranked? I am looking at Toyos 285/75/r18s....
dmaxfan 02-14-2008, 08:28 AM I know I have had to do alot of trimming on my gmc with my 6" lift and 35"s. I feel it is mostly due to the 4.5" backspacing on my 18" wheels. I knew I would have to trim some, but I have had to trim alot.
LTChip 02-14-2008, 08:39 PM Went from GY SAs to BFG ATs and I think the GYs are better in the wet and on ice the BFGs better in the snow. They are both quiet. The GYs were better tracking/stability at highway speeds. The BFGs gave me a nicer ride. Neither are really good in the deep snow - over 4" but they are ok. Probably would be the same for mud. If anything the BFGs are slightly better in these two departments. They also look better (more agressive) than the GYs and I think they were a bit less pricey. I'll probably stick with the 10ply BFGs.

Also asking same question....bump
387 hand 02-22-2008, 04:15 PM That tire is entirely too big for no lift!! You need something around 33" max and even then you may need slight trimming depending on your offset of the wheel! I am running 305/65-18 (33.7" tall) bfg at's on Centerline Eclipse 18x9 with a +6mm offset on a '07 GMC 2500 with a Cognito Motorsports 4-6" lift. Truck is lifted and I am just waiting on the wheels, but should fit perfect with no trimming!
eearnest 02-24-2008, 07:42 PM I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 Crew Cab, 4X4 Z71 with the stock 17" rims with 265/70-R17 E.
Does anyone know if a 285/70-R17 will fit without any mods? The 285 is about an inch wider and 1.25 inches taller.
Also, I know that the only available load range in the 285/70-R17 is a D, which has the same weight rating as the factory "E's", but the max operating pressure is 65psig vs 80psig.
I have a set of Goodyear Wranger Silent Armour Pro Grades on hold at the local tire store, but was just curious to see if anyone out there has any experience with that size.
Thanks for your help.
Eric
factorymx 02-24-2008, 10:08 PM im running the wranglers right now and love them i drive aggressive so i dont know if they will get the 50k that they say i have 15k on them now and still looking good. traction is good all around. i think you will be happy with them.
eearnest 02-25-2008, 10:48 AM I agree. I had a 2006 Silverado 2500 that ran the Wranglers. They didnt last the longest but they were smooth and offered great traction in the snow & ice.
