I know this has been discussed, but just bumped into this. 2001-2005 Diesel Engine oil capacity is 10 Quarts according to the chart. Just an FYI

My 01 takes 10, my 04.5 take 11 to get to the full mark? Manuals say 10 for both.

I just did the first oil change on my 05 LLY. 10 quarts and that included a new oil filter. Is that about right?

Sounds right by the book, but I'm with snowsdog, I have to put in nearly 11 to get 'er up to the full mark  . Nothing wrong with that though, I like to have a little extra :) .

Hmm, might be due to the GM bean-counters saving money by shortening the dip-stick:eek:

Mine always takes 10 - but, last weeks oil change almost took 11 to get it to the full mark. Only difference for this change was I had the front end jacked up to adjust the T-bars to level the truck. Maybe more oil was able to drain out????

Mine always takes 11, but I drive the front up on ramps just to make it easier to get under, maybe like skory said more will drain out with the front higher??

I had our 05 changed and 9.50 quarts showed full and I checked it later to see and it showed full. chevman
