: 10" subs behind the rear seat?
Burnin Mad Max 05-11-2005, 02:54 AM Anybody install 10" subs behind the rear seat of a crew cab? I utilize too much of the under seat area for storage to warrant them there and I'd like to know what kind of settup works best. The brand of box and depth of the sub you used. I have a set of JL audio 10"-ers ready to go in but the box I have is too tall (it's from my 98) the subs are brand new though.:help2:
Thanks Greg
Diesel Power 05-11-2005, 03:22 AM i have 3 JL10w3v2d6's powered by a jl 1000.1... i like it very much.
BullydogPowered 05-11-2005, 07:33 AM I built a box and got 4 8's behind the seat of mine. Sounds great and will thump. Easy box to build too.
JhnZ71 05-11-2005, 11:04 AM got my box from audioenhancers.com, it was expensive but it works well. Be sure to check the measurements of your subs first
NorCal 2500HD 05-11-2005, 05:13 PM heres the box I have in my truck....... 2 peerless 10's box fits perfect

Got Juice? 05-11-2005, 05:40 PM Fit a set of Orion NT 12 DVC's under the seat of my extended cab. Including the AMP well it took 1 day to build.
This is going to be the simplest system i have put in a vehicle.
Soundstream Ref 644 Powering the 12's in 2Ohm config.
Non Fading 4 mid/high driven from remaining 2 channels
64WRMS 20-20 @4 Ohms.
Amp is stable to 1!
dozerboy 05-11-2005, 08:52 PM Mounting depth is the issue I think you only have like 5" of use able space front fire. I have heard that you can get 4 10s in a down fire box behind the seats that would help a lot with mounting depth. What JLs do you have?

Your box looks great, you should put together a set of plans and dimesions, maybe sell them, or let DP members get them for nothing;)
BigShrimpah 05-11-2005, 10:01 PM I have a behind the seat pro box in my crew cab with two 10" dual voice coil subs. I got the box new for $180 at a local pawn shop. They sound decent, but I think I am going to have to get a bigger amp to really hammer these subs before I decide if I should switch to an under the seat or not. I had to remove the pins and flip boards from behind the seat to get the box to fit right. It has tabs to put screws through but I wasn't quite comfortable drilling through the rear wall of my cab.
JhnZ71 05-11-2005, 10:01 PM I have old pics of my truck on this website but my stereo is pictured installed in my truck. The two Infinity Kappa 10' subwoofers, and 4 6.5" Infinity Kappa Components, can really give me a headache... a good headache
heres the link, my truck looks sooooo stock in some of these pics...lol stock http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/495453

I have two 10" W0's.
busta 05-12-2005, 02:00 PM I was able to cram three 12" Audiobahn 12AlumQ (Sound Q's) behind the rear seat powered by an Audiobahn A18001DT (1800x1@1ohm). I'm not a fan of Audiobahn, but for the subs they don't sound bad. I'm running a JL 450/4 and MB Quarts (PSD 316's and PSC216's) for mids and highs. If I remember correctly, the box gives each sub .81 cubic ft of air space. I had to remove the plastic and carpet from the rear wall, remove the cab vents, cut the hinged flaps off from behind the seat as well as some of the metal tabs that were pertruding from the rear wall. It was fun (being sarcastic) taking the grinder to a brand new truck watching sparks fly all over the leather and carpet. The box goes from the floor to just under the rear window. It turned out really well and you can't even tell the truck has a system in it since I'm running the stock deck with an AudioControl Three.1 in the center console and have 20% tint all the way around (the rear windows are actually 2% now on a meter).
AndrewFessler 05-12-2005, 02:40 PM I did a write up on my install.

I need some lower thump though, so I am contemplating making a custom box and putting two 10s in there. I still have my two 12s or 15s (dont remember now) from my Tahoe. Those thumped hard. My current setup has no deep lows. I dont know if it is the head end, or the box not having enough volume.
I need to read up on custom sub boxes, I have no idea on how to calculate the needed volume, etc. I wonder if I ported this box, if it would be any better? It definately is better than stock though.
Good luck and be sure to post what you end up doing.
BullydogPowered 05-12-2005, 03:03 PM andrewfessler,
rockfordfosgate.com has help on volume calculators, wiring diagrams etc. that would be the place to check out. porting a box would probably make it sound better but a ported box has to have more volume for the same speaker.
NorCal 2500HD 05-12-2005, 09:06 PM I bought that box off a member here a few months back. IM thinking about selling it so i can do a custom job in the back of the trcuk..anyone interested??
dozerboy 05-12-2005, 10:31 PM I have two 10" W0's.
The mounting depth on those is a little over 5" they should fit and Sealed 0.50-0.90 cu.ft. Ported 0.90-1.50 cu.ft. per sub.

Ported boxes are a good bit bigger and have to be the correct size. In addition, most ported boxes are louder and sealed usually sound better, also they are more forgiving to improper size.
