: daily drivers?
vettelovralexand 05-11-2005, 12:40 AM Since no one can think of anything else to put in this topic, i was just curious, how many of you have your truck as simply a daily driver. There are bound to be some of you out there that just have a truck to have and drive a truck. Just curious how many of you there are....
mannytranny 05-11-2005, 12:53 AM Not I.
I do.. rather drive and pay for gas than use the 4 banger/automatic Tacoma. And work is only 3 miles away :) I do use this truck for EVERYTHING though.
_nar_ 05-11-2005, 01:56 AM I've never had anything but a truck. I only have one vehicle. I drive it every day on the farm and to town and back. All my tools are in it. I know I may be in the minority in that I actually bought my truck for work, rather than as a toy. I know there are a lot of guys on here that work there trucks too, but it seems like there are far more that just drive it to work and back.
dieseldan723 05-11-2005, 02:02 AM 90% daily driver - tow a trailer for camping in the summers - use it to haul stuff for from the local home repair center etc
smshiver 05-11-2005, 02:24 AM Same at Parent723. Daily driver with occasional towing or hauling. 3,500 miles a month.
David Schear 05-11-2005, 03:31 AM I have mine because I have always owned a pickup. I don't drive it everyday. I have other vehicles that I drive to get to work.
Oh well, that makes the dmax more fun to drive when I get the chance.
RedRiceEater 05-11-2005, 03:35 AM This is my daily driver for sure. I bought it to
a) keep miles off of my mustang
b) get better fuel mileage than the dodge 360 i had... shew
c) fix it up a little and smoke some rice :-)
WAskier 05-11-2005, 10:50 AM I have mine because:
I've never had a pickup before
I've always wanted a pickup
Pickups are awesome
And I wanted a big truck with the power do just about anything I ask of it so obviously it had to have a diesel ;)
Oh and yes, it's my daily driver
Hired Gun 05-11-2005, 11:51 AM I drive mine to work every day. When I get home I use it on the farm, and on the weekends it takes me to town to go out to the movies, and get groceries. Best money I have ever spent was on my Crew Cab Duramax.
Liftedhdrado 05-11-2005, 12:24 PM Only use my truck on weekends...have a 99 nissan pathfinder I drive during the week.
BullydogPowered 05-11-2005, 12:57 PM Just a daily driver with the added benefit of being able to do pretty much anything with it
devil 05-11-2005, 01:24 PM I bought mine just to haul my toys around, plus it makes it real fun when you don't drive it every day kind of like a little treat.
Rockin 05-11-2005, 04:21 PM I drive mine to work every day. 1-2 times a month, I pull our horse trailer 800 miles round trip for a horse show. In between shows we pull the trailer for lessons etc. A pickup bed is a must for yards of mulch for flower beds, wood for shop projects etc.
NorCal 2500HD 05-11-2005, 05:15 PM Mine is a Daily Driver........got it memorial weekend of last year and have 28k on it so far.....
Deadeye 05-11-2005, 05:31 PM Mine is obviously just a daily driver :joke:
twotone 05-11-2005, 05:33 PM I drive my truck for everything
D_Maximus 05-11-2005, 05:43 PM Only drove a car when I was young, dumb, & full of....
But for the 20+ years, only a truck will do.
Daily driver, which doubles as the occasional toy hauler...
TheBac 05-11-2005, 10:05 PM It is/was my daily driver.
And nobody in a car messed with me on the highway, either! :muahaha:
Tom
05LLY2500HD 05-11-2005, 11:09 PM Daily driver, to work, for work, everything in my DURAMAX!!! 9 months and 24k miles. Lots of driving.
AndrewFessler 05-12-2005, 12:09 AM Daily driver here and towing my 26' trailer and Deere around for odds n end jobs.
i second that cars dont mess with me on the highway either!
I have driven a truck sisce 1982 and won't go with out one.
Daily driver here too. Drive 80mi a day round trip to work, 4 days a week, and it saves fuel. I went from a 11.0mpg (Chevy 3500 SWR Reg Cab 4x4 w/350 5spd) to the Dmax, hand calc. (+/-)20.5mpg. Makes my wife happy.:D
Got the Duramax strictly to Mod it, can't wait. (Thanks to ALL:D for the info I have learned here at The DP on how to Mod a Dmax)
I use it for haul'n and trailer'n too. Trucks are too handy.
Turfmower 05-12-2005, 08:29 PM Not daily driver too much stuff to remove only to put back in in morning for work. Have a 1500 for daily driver.
wbens 05-12-2005, 11:21 PM Mine is my daily driver. This is my second vehicle that I have owned. My first was also a Chevy pickup that I bought 4 years ago when I turned 16. I haul everything from friends and family to mulch and brush. Plus I am wanting to get into snow removal. I have driven my dad's intrepid and my moms G20 converstion van and hate them both. There will always be atleast 1 truck in my driveway.
William
nassdmax 05-13-2005, 12:42 AM Should this thread be relabeled "Butt-Haulers"??
As for mine, it does triple duty... Haulin me back and forth to work (100+ miles per day), toting the camper for weekend and longer trips, and delivering the skidsteers and backhoe for rentals.
gearhead 05-13-2005, 02:52 PM just a daily driver here.
MaxRock 05-13-2005, 07:11 PM I use my truck as a daily driver (80 miles round trip to work) plus pull my 33' 5th wheel and haul stuff around the house.. My baby is 3.5 years old and 118k miles. I get a smile on my face everytime I get behind the wheel.
MaxRock
catch007 05-13-2005, 08:52 PM Daily driver and toy hauler. Last four vehicles were trucks, this is my first diesel I'll not go back to gasoline. This truck keeps me :D !
bigmike6970 05-13-2005, 09:34 PM Daily driver here. I also use it to pull a trailer with quads and I have become my families personal moving company.
Daily Driver, <20 mi day. Tow 23' Chris Craft Deck boat all summer.
03' Sierra 2500HD D/A SLT SB/EC
GMC2500HD 05-13-2005, 10:49 PM 90% of the time mine is used as a daily driver. But I do some towing with it from time to time and other uses..
SethMcKinney 05-14-2005, 12:26 AM ONLY THING I WILL DRIVE!!! Who wants this truck to not drive it everyday???
Jackpine 05-14-2005, 08:39 AM Daily driver, only driver. Like I told the boys at work, I buy my trucks like Swiss Army knives. All the tools, prepared for anything. Much better ride that my extended cab 3/4 Furd, and much better on fuel than the 460 was. Better yet, it came with a kick ass forum attached.
1BADDMAX 05-14-2005, 10:15 AM Mine is a daily driver 98% of the time. Soon it will be paid off and will be sitting most of the time once I buy a car. I have driven full size trucks and SUV's since I was 18 (will be 27 in June).
chaps 05-14-2005, 01:24 PM Well it started out as my second vehicle that I used to pick up parts, and tow the toy hauler out on the weekends with. I had a built turboed 99 integra GSR, with plenty of goodies on it, that I used to daily drive to school and what not. That car was tons of fun but I found myself wanting to drive my truck more and more (despite being a
b!t$H to park) and so in the end I sold it. Now my truck is my only vehicle, daily driven, and I couldn't be happier :ro)
keith_2500hd 05-15-2005, 02:03 PM daily driver, 1st truck 66 1/2 ton lb w/ 6cyl-3spd could never get stuck even with 3 engines, toolboxes and 2 rearends in carolina wet clay, just gota have truck. did cheat once 69 VW party bus(was brought here by guy out of army) fun powershifting, 68 ford w/ 351c 4V, 54chevy, 88 s-15 Gypsy, 96 dodge 1500.
MXdiesel 05-16-2005, 03:03 AM This is my daily driver. Its a nessisity to have a truck for dirt bikes. And we use it whenever we need to haul something. partly got it for a trailer which we should have soon. I will never own annother gas truck!
Reineke 05-16-2005, 03:25 AM Mine is mainly for my 50 mile one way to work commute, power and fuel economy. It has also hauled cows, cars, and other assorted trailers inbetween work.
Diesel Power 05-16-2005, 03:33 AM mine's mostly a daily driver.. tow a boat or trailer once in a while.. does racing/pulling count as a daily driver :)
ratlover 05-17-2005, 10:57 AM DD here, plow truck and track truck part time. 46k on my truck so far
King Nuzz 05-17-2005, 12:38 PM Personal Butt Hauler to Work, 2 or 3 days a week. Otherwise I take our VW TDI @ 45 MPG :D. On the other days: Short trips into town, hauling stuff for properties we take care of, plus towing an equipment trailer with compact tractor & implements. Wouldn't be without my truck, but like to take a break now and again. Might say different if I lived in the wide open spaces and owned a Duramax;) .
I've had a couple of other trucks and would never go back to gassers, for all the reasons stated above + being able to run biodiesel. :ro)
Vsouth 05-18-2005, 09:21 PM Had my 05 for 8 months. I now have 36,000 miles on mine. I use it for everything. Round trip to the office is 140 miles plus driving between job sites. If I'm going, my truck is going.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif My wife has a 01 Jetta TDI and gets 45+ MPG. It sits when we go because it is just not as fun to drive. Maybe I should be more sensible, but my truck puts a smile on my face everyday. Long live the DURAMAX!!!!!!!!!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif
As of today Big Blue is my daily driver :ro)
ZR1160 06-01-2005, 09:44 AM My first Diesel, lots of gmc 1/2 tons before, best thing I'v ever done, Daily driver, haul my sleds in the winter, my fall project is to build sled deck to haul two sleds side by side on top on the box. The rest of the year lots of work related parts end up in the bed, Heavy truck parts, barrles of fluids, etc.
aka108 06-01-2005, 08:24 PM Mine does an annual cross country between two homes. Pretty well loaded each way.
Otherwise very light hauling with majority of trips 20 or so miles. I'm getting to be an old cooter and not as agile as I once was. Getting in and out of my Wife's MB or the Nissan is a PIA. The truck is easy in and out for me. (easier to fall down and out than it is to fall up and out) So far as needing a diesel, I don't. I just wanted the thing, that's all.
SpoolinTurbo 06-01-2005, 09:03 PM Daily driver, goof off truck, 4-wheeling, towing, hauling, making people embarassed, intimidating shoddy drivers, taking straight lines from point a to b when asphalt goes around c to get there... Pretty much an all around truck, within a year to be a bigger, faster, louder all around truck >;0)
h8nopi 06-01-2005, 09:09 PM DD + tows me and the buddies motorcycles when we go out of town(something always breaks when you build the $hit out of them). Gets as good if not better then my other trucks, I wouldn't and never will drive a car but I do own one but it's the wifes):h
DLAnderson 06-02-2005, 10:23 AM Mine is my daily driver. Need truck for the 5 acre ranchette. When shopping started looking at the Colorado, but the DMaxes milage nearly the same, and I can fit comfortablly in the truck. Gas getting used up, believe biodiesel is the immediate future, win/win for North America. Truck needs to climb over snowed in roads in winter during vacation, and through mud back here at the farm. Besides I just love it....
WillowCreekStable 06-02-2005, 02:39 PM '02 Duramax, daily driver, 165 km round trip to work. Occasional farm use, hauls a horse trailer or a hay wagon sometimes. Latest in a line of trucks, 1976 El Camino (an almost truck) 1977 GMC 1/2 ton, 1986 F-250 6.9, 1990 Chev 1/2 ton (still have), 1999 F-150. Don't need a diesel, just wanted one.
Had a few cars along the way as well, but no cars in the family currently, wife drives a '03 Avalanche.
I use mine for a daily driver. I am a weekend tower though. Admittedly i do not tow as much as i use to during the first year i bought the truck. I do load it down now and then hauling hay, or other stuff on the in laws farm.
Beats the heck out of my 2500HD 6.0l though.
CapeCod 06-10-2005, 02:52 PM I'm also a daily driver. 5 miles a day back and forth to work with the occasional weekend trip. Some people say that the short rides are not good for the Duramax Diesel. Any thoughts on that?
BowtiesRBetter 06-22-2005, 05:11 PM Daily driver here too, 40mi a day. I pull a 5th wheel when the family goes camping and haul whatever needs hauling on the weekends when I work in the yard etc...
MXdiesel 06-24-2005, 08:00 PM I'm also a daily driver. 5 miles a day back and forth to work with the occasional weekend trip. Some people say that the short rides are not good for the Duramax Diesel. Any thoughts on that? I have had the same issue, I just made sure the truck saw the freeway every weekend or every other weekend, just to let it flex its muscles you could say.
01Duramax6spd 06-26-2005, 06:00 PM Mine gets used for everything,6,200 miles in the last 58 days and it's not driven every day.Got a ranch so my 01 Honda Foreman 450 is the DD:D .Odometer on it says 395,950 miles but it's more like 30k-40k.Also have a number of ranch trucks but after getting my D-Max they kinda suck to drive.
Heartbeat Hauler 06-28-2005, 07:13 PM Mine is a 3500 daily driver, although I do tow a 5ver now & then and I have a car trailer for hauling mowing eqiup. for rental units. Mostly though I have the truck for insurance against crazies that think they can actually drive 50 in a 25mph zone with a cell in one hand a soda in the other, steering with their knees. Wife drives a '04 2500 Suburban for the same reason.;)
JP
Goldneye 06-29-2005, 03:46 PM Daily driver here, 68mi rt. And is my TV.
Drillchart 06-29-2005, 05:02 PM Well, I've had mine for 2 weeks now and I wasn't going to use it as a daily driver but I just can't get enough of it and trying to switch back to a crapy car is impossible. Anyway I will also be using it to plow this winter.
smokinjoez 07-26-2005, 01:45 PM Recently joined and this is the first time I saw the thread so I thought I would give my $.02. Mine is a daily driver. And whenever I get my diesel, it will be my daily driver. I don't have anything to tow but I am going to get a diesel just because I like them. I am kind of annoyed at how many people ask me "what are you going to do with a diesel?" Drive it!! Just because I don't have anything to tow or I don't drive it long distances (work is only 10 miles) doesn't mean I shouldn't drive one. Someday...
And to answer
I'm also a daily driver. 5 miles a day back and forth to work with the occasional weekend trip. Some people say that the short rides are not good for the Duramax Diesel. Any thoughts on that?
I have a friend who has a '02 and he lives within 2 miles of work. He bought that truck new and has not had an issue with it yet (other than something with a plow).
drmyer68 08-04-2005, 08:23 AM I bought mine because I always wanted a "Full Size Pick-Up". I have owned 2 Toyota's in the past, gave my 99 Tacoma to my daughter. This is my first diesel. I really don't haul or tow. But this is America and you can have more than you need.
I love my D-MAX. Black 2500HD Crew Cab. I also have a FATBOY and 2001 Vette. I would rather drive the D-MAX.
Paul Clancy 08-04-2005, 10:13 AM Mines a daily driver and tow vehical during rv season. Just a blast to drive. Better milage than a full size suv and way more fun. Had to merge into a left lane the other day and signalled then moved in front of a bmw boy, he let me in (or else) then proceeded to finger me when he was far from ramming distance. Too funny. Nobody messes with this truck up close. Kept wondering how my front left wheel would look planted in his cab. 4lo should let me climb a little 328i speed bump.
JCAST 08-04-2005, 10:38 AM Daily driver also put about 25 miles a day and on the weekends 200 or so going back and forth from hunting camp. Definitely a daily drive
Mark_my_word 08-15-2005, 03:24 PM Daily driver about 65 miles a day. Also used to tow my 26' toy hauler when I can get away which is not nearly as often as I'd like....
hazmat91180 08-17-2005, 03:56 PM Daily Driver to downtown Milwaukee. 40 round trip a day. Stop and go doesn't bother me at all.
02 Durabeast 08-27-2005, 11:41 AM Mine is a daily driver and work truck. It tows all day moving material and equipment to and from job sites. It goes home to play, sled pulls, and tows a camper. I put about 5,000 miles a month on the odometer and love it. Wouldn't trade even for a new one.
JEBar 08-29-2005, 03:21 PM 99.9999% of the time if I am driving, I'm in our truck ... 42 mile daily driver to and from work ... approximately 40,000 miles towing our 33' travel trailer in the last 3 summers ... towing our tractor and other equipment ... going out to eat ... am sure you get the drift
Jim
97 CC longbed 10-04-2005, 11:48 PM I drive mine every day and use it for everything.Rain or shine, just to ride around and burn fuel or to go to the beach, hit the switch on the back seat and take the wife for a ride.HA HA HA HA. Now has 201.000k original miles, needs a new vac pump. It just went out so I have no vac going to wastegate. I do need to know if theres a cheap quick fix to this.Still runs good but has lots its a#$ when pulling a load though.
xeonpro 10-05-2005, 05:55 PM Daily Driver..2 miles to work..still manage to do 2,500/month:rolleyes:
hauls the chicks around in style ):h (im 19)
DURAtotheMAX 10-06-2005, 01:54 AM hauls the chicks around in style (im 19)
hehe I understand where you're coming from...everyone likes making supermarket runs in "ben's big truck".):h Of course the groceries are spread all over the bed by the time we get back because the Edge and PPE HOT Xcellerator are working every second of the drive there and back.:)
I do use it for work and towing all the time when Im home though (im at school right now though). And this winter (before I edited this post, I wrote "summer" oh boy i must be tired) I bet I could make some extra $ towing people out of snow banks...that is if I can find a place to plug 'er in at night. It gets -30 below up here (Canton, NY).
---Ben
Duratys 10-06-2005, 01:57 AM Mine used to be used for work. I have a work truck now so its changed to another toy that sits in the garage and collects dust:( Sure nice to come home and drive it though:ro)
tentspike 10-10-2005, 08:39 PM Used as family mini van,tow vehicle for camping, testosterone reasons
bigjosh 10-14-2005, 11:50 AM Daily driver for me. I used to drive my durango, but it only got around 10.8mpg in the city. Now I only drive my durango when I want to go fast and waste gas;) , not to say that the truck isn't as fast (yet), but my durango has more performance mods and is chipped. My brother has a 03 Dodge Ram Cummins for a daily driver and I needed to have something to show him up....right???
duramaxdavid 10-15-2005, 11:38 PM Im like you hired gun. work everday farmin on the weekends. cc was a great investment.
