Does anyone use synthetic grease to lube the frontend?

IdahoFox,

Thanks for finding those pics. I couldn't remember what site those came from. They had been posted here long ago, but were lost in the first upgrade from last year I guess. :thumb:

I use Mobil 1 Red Synthetic grease. Holds up very well. Doesn't wash out all that easy either.

I bought 6mm zerks and they wouldn't thread into the hole. I figured they must be SAE and I haven't got around to getting those yet. Maybe not all metric grease zerks are the same???

There are different size metrics.

I have metrics and SAE, but I have not changed mine yet.

If I led you wrong, I'm sorry, I owe you Two Beers.

I've tried the 6mm's also with no luck, too small. The 1/4-28 measured exactly and the threads matched the originals.

Thanks Modified, I'll remember that.

I have put new fittings on my trailer and they seem to want to work their way out. Particularily since, to have them pointing in the easiest direction for greasing, they may not be tight on the threads. Not a big deal on my trailer but I wouldn't want that on my truck. Is there a method to ensure they stay where you point them? Even when not completely tightened?

This is an NPT fitting, tapered. If you tighted (the first time) past where you wish it to be aligned, it will never be Tight and Aligned, when you Back it Off to align it. SOL !!!

Teflon tape, (one or more wraps) Can recover some of the slack. You May never know the difference. If your Adjustement is wrong, remove the Tape and start over. Oh whow!

IMHO. Got to be carefull, mislead before. -:t
